The big one is about to begin once again lads. Hopefully week 1 will bring a lot of goals, controversy and maybe even a shock!

Bit disappointed with the substitution. Welbeck on the pitch while the far better Hernandez stays on the bench

Great result for West Brom getting a point at White Hart Lane.

Hazard can score penalties as well as create them apparently good work from Torres

He's certainly started his Chelsea career well has Hazard.

Gutted not to take all 3 points today, we more than deserved it, just wouldn't go in for us. But it is a good point, and a much better performance which is what we needed.
Must admit didnt see the QPR pen, but just in general Mark Clattenburg is a terrible referee. The game has to be all about him, constantly blowing up for little things most would let go. Luckily the game was good, could have been a lot better but for poor general officiating

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread
Torres definitely turning the corner, he's getting there slowly but surely. Golden Boot and now 3 in 4 should shut the doubters up and just enjoy watching him play at his near best. Hazard looks frightening for Chelsea, knew we had no chance today and will probably end 3 or 4 depending on if Chelsea take their foot of the gas. Expecting the Europa League to really hurt our league form this year, especially with this smallish squad. Anita should really never be given a starting debut role at the Bridge.

God united's defending is shocking.
When I think we have spent £90 million in the last 2 summers and then think of all the full backs and midfielders that have moved in that time it does make me sad.
That said the set up of the makeshift defense is stupid, why play carrick on the right side with Valencia/Rafael outside him when Vidic could play right and Carrick could be talked through the games by Vidic and Evra.

While Torres has been in good goal scoring form, does anybody think he's anywhere near his explosive best. It's weird, all the statistics point to him having turned a corner but he doesn't play with the same confidence as he did in the past. I think he's developing his game into something more poacher-like.

I think the departure of Drogba will help him no end but you are right in that he's not the player we saw 2007-2010. Having said that I truly believe he'll bang in 20+ goals this season.

Evra and Carrick on the same side of the defense would be hilarious.

Very happy with that, 4 points from Liverpool and Spurs is a more than decent start to the season. Lukaku looks like he will be a real asset this season.
Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread
3 out of 3 then for Chelsea to start the season, the early pace has been set.

very composed performance from Chelsea today, Newcastle never looked likely to get anything out of it and Chelsea ran out comfortable winners. Hazard continues to impress, and while Torres has lost pace he's starting to get it together.

With QPR and Stoke next up for Chelsea they could open up an early gap. I'd expect them to win both.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread
As long as Torres scores goals, I don't care how he does it! He has lost some pace, but he is still making intelligent runs and now scoring goals, and there were moments today that he showed his faith in himself was returning.
Hazard was really good again, another beautiful assist and a debut goal. Three wins out of three though, you cannot knock it even if we have had a nice easy start. Tough on Newcastle having to play on Saturday after Thurs though...

Why? Only Cisse started both games, Santon and Cabaye where on the bench but didn't feature. If they had played the majority of the same players I could see this argument but when it's basically two different teams it doesn't stand up.

No it's a poor excuse which I as a Newcastle fan aren't using because only Cisse played both games. The travelling obviously would not have helped the players even if they went to Greece and sat on the bench, as travelling is tiring. Chelsea have spent £80m to leapfrog us and it showed, we can't compete. Never expected us to win and Hazard was too good. Three horse race between Chelsea and the Manchester's and I look forward to watching it unfold.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread
Didn't Anita play midweek as well? And the travelling won't have helped, as well as having less time to prepare specifically for Chelsea. I won't have that big an effect, but it hasn't helped Newcastle. Still a good win for us, and if it is a game we should be winning with the money spent/players brought in this summer.

I must say, I was initially worried that Chelsea had overpaid for Hazard. I live in France, and knew he's good, but worried he wouldn't adapt so well to the PL, and thought the price tag was very high indeed. Glad he's proving me wrong so far though

I expect Arsene Wenger will be an unhappy man after his team has been bullied into defeat again by the team he hates playing the most.

Draw at the Brittania.
Fair play to them but I'd hope'd they'd progressed beyond that type of football now

Not bad from the Reds so far. The microphones at the ground are a little too good. I am hearing all the swear words shouted by a rather enthusiastic Liverpool fan.

Skrtel just doesn't look like the same player without Agger beside him. He's not as confident on the ball when he can't just lay it off to the Dane.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread
Will take a draw, disappointing not to win when Liverpool were probably the better side, but a draw against the champions isn't bad.
Big positives for me were good performances from Suarez, Sterling and Allen. As well as Carroll coming on, which suggests that maybe Rodgers does recognise the threat Carroll can pose even if it is for the last ten minutes.
Negatives are throwing away the lead twice (both through poor mistakes), Lucas getting injured again.
Hopefully Rodgers can use this result and performance to motivate them in the next games, rather than continuing the infuriating trend set since Houiller's days of playing great against big clubs and then wilting against smaller ones.

Well on the balance of the first week you have to say Chelsea look strong contenders (yes I know it's early doors). City were very ordinary today, and lucky that two defensive howlers gifted them a point. Much better from Liverpool though.

Beforehand I'd have taken the draw but after watching that I'm disappointed we didn't bag all three points but what can you do when your centre back does that? Onwards and upwards.

Did anybody catch the post match interview with Rodgers on Sky?
He actually applauded Skrtel for trying to play the ball in a defensive area. Interesting.

The easy option would've seen Liverpool pick up 3 points however.
