2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 3
Let the talk, arguments, disagreements and bickering continue...
I really fancy a Spurs win today.

Thinking Spurs might just nick a point or three here despite being 1 down at HT. United look overly cautious, not there normal selves at all.

Only ourselves to blame, very comfortable defending but kept messing up the final pass when we broke.
Can we have a media storm over this stone wall penalty not given? Or we will just ignore it...

Tottenham deserved at least a point, by far the better team in that game. United far too cautious in this one. Lennon was terrific, get that man in the England squad. Well played Tottenham.

love it! fantastic performance, ive never understood the term 'the draw felt like a win' until today. im delighted with the performance, we absolutely deserve the draw. neither team deserved to lose. and it wont do you any damage i dont think. youre far too good not to win it!

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 3
Just irritating as tactically we were spot on, strong at the back, counter attacked, bullied dembele and generally kept spurs at arms length.
A bit more care with our passes and we could have been through on several occasions.
Irritating.

Funnily enough it still won't put the theory to bed that United have the refs in their pocket

With or without the penalty we've only ourselves to blame, perfect performance apart from the end- a little more care with our passing and we could have had 2 or 3 goals.
Just annoying but ah well.

IMO Chris Foy had a poor game.....however credit to spurs for sticking to the task, and nicking a point right at the end of the game.

At the end of the day we'd have probably won had he had a good game but to win championships you need to win in spite of refereeing performances and we would have done so had we taken more care on the break.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 3
I'm disappointed but not disappointed in a very odd way. Obviously I'm hacked off about the last minute goal but then again I said I'd take a draw so I'm feeling neutral. For all Spurs possession they didn't do much with it and Utd's defense was as good as I've seen it in a long time.
I didn't see any "stonewall" penalty incident so I can't comment.

The way Spurs have been playing before the game I thought a draw would have been a good result for Utd.
Obviously conceding in the last minute is a kick in the teeth

Disappointed we couldn't hold out in the end. Rooney has a stone wall penalty disallowed which if scored, would have probably won us the game. All credit to Spurs though, they were the better team second half and deserved a point. I thought Lennon in particular was superb all game, looked threatening every time he got the ball. Wished we didn't sit back as deep as we did second half, just invited Spurs to put pressure on us.

it was a half pace prem performance- must have been the conditions, players may have been ultra cautious...
lennon exploited that second half for sure.
Boring game for me though. But i really enjoyed the second half from arsernal

Depends whose stats you use. The BBC say Tottenham had 23 shots and 18 on target, the Guardian say Tottenham had 25 shots and 8 on target.

What do they use as the definition for a "shot on target"? I watched the game and I'd be inclined to go with the Guardian. Off the top of my head I can only remember 3 clear cut shots on target: Bale's deflected one, the one where (Dempsey?) found himself 1 v 1 with De Gea after snaking his way through the defence and the goal.

No media storm, of course (other than attacking Fergie maybe), because it really ruins everyone's fun when you point out that decisions often go against United and other teams benefit a lot more from refereeing or score more last minute goals etc (this final point being true of both Arsenal and Chelsea [more goals and greater proportion of goals, both] but you never here people banging on about 'Wenger-time' or Chelsea always squeaking last minute winners).

Have never understood this phrase, or the point of it at least. United handed out one of the most one-sided beatings I've ever seen in the Prem for the whole second half at OT but Spurs came away with the win. And? If Spurs 'deserved' yesterday's point then United at least 'deserved' 1 if not all 3 earlier in the season.

So United fans are moaning about a decision going against them by 'not moaning'.

It's a bit like a billionaire complaining of being charged PPI. He's in the right, but no cares as he has loads of money in the bank anyway.
That's generally what happens when people feel the right result (on the balance of play) was achieved. There was plenty made of United's appeals for pens at Old Trafford vs Spurs as people felt United deserved more. Although, I've heard plenty of people going on about the decision yesterday and today. Easily as much as the West Ham decisions on Wednesday.
