England v South Africa, Lords, 3rd Test Thread
First topic message reminder :
Yeah, the fielding certainly has left alot to be desired. Still the chances are being created and things must surely stick soon.

Yeah that new ball with the stain chappy behind it will be too much I fear.
But he'll, with logic, give em a kick in the goolies and see what happens eng.

Really wish I could join in but I have had my realist hat on all day and am just fatalistically enjoying the magnificent but futile pursuit of the Holy Grail...
Lovely big six ...reverse sweep...target under 100 ...bang goes my early night

WHACK! Swann waltzes down the pitch and marmalises Tahir over long-on. Two reverse-swept fours from Prior later and England need 91 to win

In fact it is really only guilford's two wickets away from being a real chance : if this were Prior and Bairstow still you'd actually fancy it...
Yes, sorry about that folks.

Nice to see Smith wearing a bit of a concerned look
If they keep scoring at this rate it will be over with twelve overs to spare ...

Remember when Swan used to bat like this all the time? Maybe he turned up sober for once

Well well well.
That second new ball could be a problem though. Still got to bank on losing one wicket to it.

Graeme Smith has lost the plot a bit by keeping Tahrir on. He is leaking runs and making an unlikely England victory more and more likely.

KERPOW! Swann slaps a pull shot over mid-wicket for six off Kallis, and follows up with a lovely cover driven four. 81 to win

Required rate down to 3 for what it's worth. That's entirely irrelevant now.
81 to win. 3 wickets in hand.
COME ON!!!!!

Its all about making as much damage now before the new ball so that Prior or Swann can ease England home with a small RRR

Entirely the right idea. I won't even blame someone for playing a stupid shot if it gets them out.

I guess smith is just smiling to himself knowing what his frontline monsters will do but even he has to realise it wasn't easy this time. He can can thank amla for that number one spot.
Or can he.

England have scored 52 in 7 overs since tea, and it's forced SA to bring Morkel on with the old ball

They've removed SA's option for going defensive and playing for the draw as well meaning they'll be plenty of gaps if they can just keep hitting them.

Even if England do lose from here, they get huge amounts of respect for giving it a great go.

Making the Saffers run about a lot before the new ball is huge too. Quite a lots been said about the heavy going on the outfield here. last day of a hard fought test, there will be tired legs out there which could take somesting off the new ball pace attack.

Superb counter-attack. Important we calm down for the new ball, 66 to go. Come on England!

If only the the openers played in this vein... Massive credit to the tail and middle order here!

Re: England v South Africa, Lords, 3rd Test Thread
Yeah the catch was a big mistake but I feel the bigger failing was the top order not getting it done again, even 30 between Strauss and cook would have taken the edge off.

Actually Prior dropped Amla
Jimmy dropped ABdeV...
But forget all that ...this is a hell of a chase...

Such a shame.
But isn't it nice to see some fight at last.
It's been lacking a bit of late.

Re: England v South Africa, Lords, 3rd Test Thread
Swann a bit slow to respond to Prior's call I'm afraid. Tahir made it difficult there by going so far behind the stumps but did well in the end.
