The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to the Moon, in honour of the late Neil Armstrong. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Lance Armstrong in yellow, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin moonwalking, or the shot of Joe Ansbro breaking the line.

Why would anyone want to see uncontested scrums?

Comiseratyions to Micko and Cari, would have made for a better final. Poor from them though, not good enough.

Cork were really poor. Seemed to be passing for passing sake at times.
Rava,
I don't and I haven't been. The extra prop sub was brought into the Top 14 because unfortunately cynical teams were taking advantage of the uncontested scrums and then into the Aviva for the same reason. The thing is, this wasn't and isn't an issue anywhere else in the world. They have 22 man squads at international level and all across the Southern Hemisphere and there has not been an issue with uncontested scrums.
Now, we will just be having over half the team not completing full games and games not opening up due to players being fresh the whole way through. Not to mention the issue of more injuries, when you get "impact" players who are putting 80 mins effort into 15 and hitting tired and worn players.

Stupidity from the management who implemented the wrong gameplan and some players who were poor in posession and well made stupid shot selections.

My brother goes nuts about those short passes. I can see the use for them but not around midfield and certainly not if the intent isn't to go forward off it. Football isn't a keep possession sport, though some teams are trying to make it that. It's a hell for leather up the field game.

Disagree it can be, if you play it right similar ot how Donegal do it. Cork were doing that in a way a QB scrambles, to see a forward can get free. Would I have done it? Absolutely not. It is the complete opposite way to beat a blanket defence. You can do several things to beat it and we didn't do any of them.

amazing scenes in the table tennis final, such brilliant sportsmanship in the end, I confess I welled up a bit, these Paralympics are just fantastic.

I didn't realise there were athletes with mental disabilities in it too RD. Have seen some of it, watched blind football which was a bit odd, although the keepers are fully sighted I think. Was a bit strange but cool at the same, commitment they put in most be savage to overcome sthe things they have gone through and then to excell at a sport on top of that is phenomenal

Yeah they do, there's so many different classifications (often three different classifications in the same race which isn't half confusing!)
And it really is T, it's just so inspiring to watch, interesting to hear the stories of those who were born with their disabilities and those who've suffered accidents etc and how they cope.
and ooo another Gold! in the pool! GB's swimming team is rocking fair play. ah man such a buzz from seeing your team do well

Billy - ah no really? that's awful! Some of the races have been absolutely amazing. The Ellie Simmonds final in the swimming yesterday was incredible, so close and she just managed to pip the American for Gold, both of them having absolutely smashed the WR.
T - they surely are! GB are at an advantage Paralympics wise as we've invested in it for so much longer than other countries, tis good to see other nations catching up (as long as they don't catch up tooo much I like seeing us winning medals all the time!)

The streams just fall away alot.
Many people here have complained about the lack of coverage. Its so suprising that they dont show much, many people want to watch them.

Yep and what I've found is that when I first started watching, when you see people with their disabilities it was a bit uncomfortable at first to see (whether that's right or wrong) but now that it's been on for a few days you don't even really notice it anymore, it's more just that you marvel at how they've had to adapt and yet they still completely excel in their chosen sport.
Definitely think it should get more coverage globally. It's just like watching any other sport/sports, just the sports as we usually know them are approached differently, have different tactics etc. Things like basketball, I've found I actually enjoy wheelchair basketball a heck of a lot more than "normal" basketball.

Evening pubstars, just got back in from my niece's surprise 23rd buffday celebrations, it was a pretty low key gathering, but all had a good time and it was nice for La Familia to be together.
Towards the end of the gig, her dad and meself decided she wasn't too old for the bumps, so we set to the task with vim and vigour (other household cleaning products are available), we got all the way to 12 before we realised how badly we'd misjudged matters.
She ain't fat or owt, we're just old and easily knackered.
Now, where did I put me slippers?

Munsty, Wasps had a "try" disallowed on Saturday for a forward pass on the half way line in the build-up. There were another couple of occasions where the TMO was asked to check for forward passes. Sarries had one chalked off as well I think.

Thank you Rava and Asbo. I can see dangers in that once they start to take into account momentum in passes.

What is already becoming apparent is that different referees are approaching the TMO review in different ways.
In the Wasps v Quins game three ‘tries’ were referred, two given and one not. The forward pass I didn’t have a problem with once I saw the replay, but it was difficult to pick up first time. The fact was the referee saw fit to refer it when he didn't blow for a forward pass at the time.
In the London Welsh v Leicester game yesterday, at least one Tigers’ try (and possibly another) involved a forward pass far more obvious than in the Wasps game. In both cases the referee didn’t even refer them for review.
There was also a difference in the approach of the players in both games. Danny Care was yelling for a replay after every Wasps try. A couple of Wasps players did the same when Brown took the cross field kick from Evans because he looked to be in front of the kicker. It seemed fairly clear cut that he was in front from high up in the stand where I was. But the try was given because the camera angles were apparently inconclusive.
Wayne Barnes used the TMO in a different way in picking up what he thought was foul play. In both cases his suspicions were confirmed and yellow cards were shown.
Brian Moore's article on the subject in today's DT is worth a read.

Got a weird email from Liam_Main (he used to be on here and on the old 606) via Twitter. I hardly ever go on there but I typed his address and lo and behold it was full of apologies for the virus which had been sent out. A fair bit of swearing too!
Saw this on the news ticker this morning:
"Residents are being urged to capture live funnel web spiders due to the shortage of anti-venom at present"
I wish they had told me last week. I just threw out lots of glass jars and plastic containers....
How's it going Glas? Nice win for the Scarlets. All going well?

I think if players are calling for the TMO for every try, I think the referee should be giving a penalty at the kick off against them.

Ah thats amazing Rava. Mucho respect to Ozzy and his interview magazine for his pal but this is really amazing to see.
Munsty - on one hand yes but on the other a captain has every right to asset to the referee that he feels an infringment was missed and to use the tools available to make sure the right result is reached.

Agteed. If a player thinks there are grounds for a review then make his views known to his captain who should be the only player who should be talking to the ref.
Barnes' use of the TMO for suspected foul play should result in a cleaner game.
I am sure that the various refereeing panels will be reviewing all the TMO referrals that were made as a result of the new law, and sharing their experiences.
