The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Amsterdam in honour of original publican Gibson who is finally back in gainful employment. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of former Corso Marauder Lawrence Dallaglio or young ice hockey prize winner (thanks to the v2ers) Chris Boyd.

Been out this morning. As I wandered up to my local post office, I passed J-Ro and Nugget chatting in the street. I wish these players would stop hanging around by my gaff...

Who is J-Ro?
Just listening to the radio this morning. A guy got mugged in a park in Dublin one afternoon last week. He said that he was calling for help; there were 25-30 people who stood by and watched. He said that he gave chase to the muggers but then returned to the bench clearly shaken and nobody even asked him was he ok.
I think thats a horrible indication of things at the minute.

Was about to say; we need a reference article for all of these nicknames. I haven't the foggiest.
Who's Nugget?
Can you do a quick Os list and maybe dreamer can do a Scarlet's one? Please.
That's awful Stag... was that in the Phoenix Park?

Sorry Breaker Nugget = Martyn Williams (retired Blues/Wales player) and Jamie Roberts (Blues/Wales). I usually make up my own stupid nicknames for players although Williams has been known as Nugget for years. Not sure why.

Yep it is Staggy, and I've seen it quite a bit in Cardiff too. People do it all the time even in the smallest of ways.

It's more a fact of human nature. The more people watching something, the less likely any of them are going to react as they're all waiting for someone else to move 1st.

Thanks Cari.
Who's that other one Sanjay? (most likely a logical explanation!)
Yeah Kiwi. When I was walking through Central Park I saw what looked like a crumpled body. Wasn't sure if it was someone asleep or dead. At the same moment a couple on bikes rode past and stopped. Being a tourist (only there for a few days) I kept on going. Felt really bad about it for years. I'll never know the truth.

Breaker - can't help with that one I'm afraid. Scarlets nicknames are even more vague to me than mine are to others!

But why don't people make a move anyway? Why wait for the rubber neckers to gather round? See, I'm the sort of person who will intervene if I think it's safe to do so. With that robbery situation, I probably wouldn't have confronted the robbers in the interests of personal safety, but I would've phoned the police and gone to see if the guy was all right.

For our game against Castres in October tickets will be: -
Terrace/Promenade £20 with comparable seated tickets in the stand at £27/£36
Rava –you’re not exactly comparing apples with apples. Most of the rugby stadia in France are municipally owned and prices are much cheaper than in the UK. However, you can bet your life that the locals will probably only pay about €15 - €20 for their tickets though. We found that out when we played there in 2008.
For comparisons sake, a ticket in the Cat stand for Tigers v Ospreys is £34.

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
Just for you Breaker, off the top of my head, here are some of the Scarlets' nicknames
Liam Williams - Sanjay - due to some story from a family holiday when he was about 4, he's been called it ever since
Gareth Maule - Darth - as in Darth Maul
George North - Gogzilla (Gog as he's a north walian), Duw North (Duw sounds like the english pronunciation of due but duw means God in Welsh ) or ya know I just call him Georgie.
Mathew Rees - Smiler - got no clue as to why he's called that.
Ken Owen - KenO, The Sherrif - I think his dad used to be the mayor of Carmarthen, something like that
Gareth Davies - Cawdor - think his dad owns that car company dealership round this way
Tavis Knoyle - Nurse Knoyle - due to a sketch some of the Scarlets players did a couple seasons a go, will dig up the vid on youtube if I've time to find it!
John Davies - Foxy - his parents used to run the Fox and Hound pub
Rob McCusker - McGog - Gog again as he's from north wales
Andy Fenby - crazylegs, fenners - crazylegs as you just don't know where the heck he's going to run when he gets the ball
Jonathan Edwards - JEdwards - self explanatory!
Can't think of any more at the moment.....

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
Thats interesting Dreamer. At Munster we have had the least orignial nicknames over the years:
Peter Clohessy: The Claw
Jerry Flannery: The Fla
John Hayes; The Bull
Donncha O'Callaghan: Donners
Paul O'Connell: Paulie
David Wallace: Wally
Alan Quinlan: Quinnie
Peter Stringer: Strings
Ronan O'Gara: Rodge
Lifeimi Mafi: Maffs
Jason Holland: Dutchy
As you can see more often that not its just an abbreviation of their last name.

Stag - Ah yeah Scarlets have got loads of those too like Shings, Rhods, Deacs etc etc, I didn't think they counted as proper nicknames though!
I see Munster's lack of creativity must spread to their fans also....

It was a comment on Saints prices. I gave ours as a comparison. I thought Saints prices were expensive. We only paid £22 for the terrace at Welford Road last year.

Broken down on the M6 near Shap fell. The AA will come and fix the car and tow it away, but they won't touch the trailer with the sheep in. We are supposed to be in the sale in Carlisle and inspected by 1.00 or we won't be allowed to show and may not be allowed to sell.
Initiative test anybody?

Start with the obvious:
- Call a friend see will they come and hitch the trailer to their vehicle.
- If you have a pen/paper make a sign appealing for motorists travelling to Carlisle to assist you.
- Give a phone call to local radio station to do the same.
- Phone ahead and ask can the inspector travel to meet you for a roadside inspection and offer to pay the expenses invovled.
- Slip the AA guys a bit of cash in hand and see if they'll do you a favour by ignoring rules and towing the trailer.
- Try and rent a car from a nearby outlet to get you on your way again.

The Gliders beat the US in the wheelchair basketball 40-39.
What a game. They had a decent lead coming into that last quarter (38-28)... and only scored 2 points. Shot clock violation with about 1.7 seconds left by the US and the ball went in just after.

Question for all
Has anyone been watching The Newsroom on sky Atlantic?? It's on Sunday nights at nine. It's another fantastic piece if programming from HBO. It's all about a tv news program and what goes on into making it and all the stuff like that. I know I've not described it very well bit if you can I fully recommend it to anyone

Evening folks, hope everyone is well?
Can I ask a wee favour please, if any of you post on your clubs fan sites, could you please post something on there with a link to the podcast on v2journal so that we can try to encourage listeners and in turn new posters on here.
I have spammed all of the AP clubs rugbynetwork fan sites, but if anyone else knows of any others then if we could get something on there as well that would be great. If you know of sites but don't have time to go on and promote the podcast there could you please PM me with the websites and I'll go on and do it.
Thanks guys and gals.
