The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Amsterdam in honour of original publican Gibson who is finally back in gainful employment. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of former Corso Marauder Lawrence Dallaglio or young ice hockey prize winner (thanks to the v2ers) Chris Boyd.

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
Would you believe we have just managed to get the last hole in the wall fixed.
The guys rebuilt it and just had to return the following day to finish it off. That evening I heard a siren and looked out the window to see a blue flashing light stopped at the brow of the hill!
Couldn't believe it!
Rushed out to the gate and was very relieved to discover the wall intact! The cops were escourting this enormous contraption along our road and had had to close it to traffic. I think it was some sort of transformer for the electric switching station near us. It was on this enormous lorry with an engine and driver at either end.
It took about 15 mins to just get over the brow of the hill.
I have no idea how they got the thing around the tight turn into the electric place!

Yes As. I wonder how happy Ulster Rugby are that one of their main sponsors may be involved in a deal that could end up costing them income.

Gibbo, BT Vision have bought up the rights to televise the AP from next season and to televise English Prem sides in "any" European Competition for three years starting 2014/15.
ERC are obviously not best pleased.

Wooo. That's when the ERC agreement is up. The fight starts. Clever move by the Jeff. Leverage-wise. But stupid long-term, imo.
The ERC has the best club comp on the Planet. With respect, in isolation, the Jeff is still, just the Jeff. Maybe after the HC QF's, that deal will look silly. Only one winner here.
May help them when we all compromise.
The French created the The World Cup, European Cup, The European Championship and gave birth to the Modern Olympics. I hope they don't regress too.
You cant live in isolation and just broadcast yourselves to yourselves. It wont work.
Besides, do you think the other sides wont have SKY's rights on them, if an English side is playing an Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Italian or French side in the HC? They could only control their home games. Think about it.

Morning slackers
Sitting outside junction on my favourite turn, 6:06 sign on don't work a train until 08:00, sweet as bru!!
Read about the Jeff deal this morning and it doesn't make sense to me. All members of the ERC grant the ERC the rights to sell "the rights" to all club fixtures and they have just signed a new deal with sky up to and including 2018
So that in legal terms should void any agreement the Jeff have with bt no??

Reversing round corners is easy, turn your head around put your left elbow on the passenger seat and swing her round, turning the wheel anticlockwise. Speed and high revs is key. That's what I learnt after passing my test anyway.

Hoog, the English clubs have given notice to ERC that they won't be members of it come the end of the current agreement. So if they're not in ERC in 2014 they can do their own thing.

Morning Rava, Hoog, Glas, Pete, et al . I'll get the bacon banjos on the go.
Clear blue sky for me, but I guess that weather over there is coming over here, Rava.
The bun fight has started regarding the ERC, as the current ERC agreement finishes in 2014, so does the ERC's right to sell the TV rights.
Whether it's a good move or a bad move, the English clubs have made in terms of their "bargaining power", the way I was dragged up, it's just rude and ill-mannered; there's no way of hiding that fact.

What really does my head in is the fact it threatening the best club competition on the world. The idea that the competition we've all grown to love immensely could all be ruined because of a row over a few pound makes me sick my teeth.

If that weren't so true, Hoog, it would be very funny.
They say history repeats itself and this is the second time "England" has made this kind of move, with a bit of luck it will be another case of "oeuf sur la visage".

That's how I see it as well PJ. Thus latest move is the final nail in the coffin for me, what I say the ERC do now is court the French and come to an agreement with them and let the Jeff go away on its own.
Two seasons max before they come back, cap in hand begging to be allowed back in.

Lads isn't the agreement for "any FUTURE European competitions".
i.e. If the Heineken Cup continues this will not apply. If the Anglo French sets up then BT will have the rights.
Looks like the English clubs are preparing for all scenarios.

Absolutely Stag, but it doesn't make it any less "unseemly" (thanks As), the AP clubs have nailed their colours to the mast on this one, and I fear, like Hoog has said, they could end up going down with the ship.
Not only is it extremely premature, but it is arrogant in the extreme.
It's like saying "Our rugby is bigger than the ERC. Look! We've sold the rights to our European rugby matches, even though there might not be any. (But there will be anyway because the others wont be able to play without us)"
I really, really, wouldn't be so damned cocksure about that.

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
I'm really not trying to blame all this on the English by the way, fair blame has to be laid at the feet of the French as well however I get the feeling it may just be a bit of bellyaching from the French and more of a real threath from the English and this latest move proves as much.
But in the grand scheme of things I just can't see how either country would be better off in the long run by leaving the HC. It seems to me they they will chop of their nose just to spite their face. Surly to god its makes more economic sense to be in a Europe wide competition than to not be, even of the tv Money is not what you think it should be. They need to see how many people come to their games because of HC action, a dam sight more than would turn up for a Anglo French game is say

That's my reading of it too. BT Vision may well go to court if the AP clubs stay in the HC and ERC's new deal with Sky from 2014* trumps BT's deal.
* The new ERC/Sky deal was a massive knee jerk reaction from Sky after the AP/BT deal wa announced.
Et bon jour mes amis.

Bore da pawb/good morning all.
Hope everyone's well?
Reckon with this whole English club debate thing that Stag is more on the right track with them just preparing for all outcomes. Fully understand PJ and Asbo's pov about it being unseemly mind. Can't see it being the end of the HEC either. The sponsors and the money men just won't let that happen.
Also PENFRO and Cardiff Regs - I am definitely in Cardiff this Sunday for a bit if yous want to meet up? (twould be a late morning early lunch kind of time I'm a thinking ) Let me know anyways.

Well if it were up to me, I honestly wouldnt change a single thing to the format of the HC as it is. It's a superb product and works extremely well.
If I was pushed to change something though all I would tinker with is the semi finals, I'm not sure one team having a home "country" advantage is really fair, but it has made for some unbelievably tense games, which is part of the beauty of the competition.
God dam you England and France trying to ruin this competition on me

They won't ruin it Hoog. They are just having a pwdi and trying to get more money out of it. There'll be a fair few temper tantrums and then it'll finalise pretty much just as it was before.

That's a fair point Hughie, but other than playing it over two legs what other options are there? A neutral venue could work in some instances but imagine the 2009 SF between Leinster and Munster had to be played in Murrayfield (for example), there would have been war.

I was thinking that as well mick and the only fair option is a two legged game. How workable that is though I'm not to sure. So at the moment I reckon what they have in place is the best option by making it luck of the draw.

If I was pushed to change something though all I would tinker with is the semi finals, I'm not sure one team having a home "country" advantage is really fair, but it has made for some unbelievably tense games, which is part of the beauty of the competition.
God dam you England and France trying to ruin this competition on me

Bore da pawb / good morning all, it's weekend eve!
Dreamer, I was the same - until about a fortnight before my (third) test, when all of a sudden I was a whizz at reversing around a corner but hopeless at parallel parking. I was praying that the instructor wouldn't ask me to parallel park. She was going to, but it was had been really windy overnight and in the exact spot where she was going to get me to parallel park, a sapling had blown over. So she asked me to reverse into a bay back at the test centre, and that was that! I think the word is providence.

Dreamer, I remember my driving instructor stuck a wee piece of gaffer tape at the bottom of one of the rear passenger windows to help folk learn to reverse around corners. You just make the tape follow the kerb and round you go. Worked a treat!
There's a sticker on the back of the car window and special small round mirrors stuck on the side mirrors to help me but my mind goes blank. As soon as the car goes backwards I just don't know which way to turn the wheel!
Which is weird because reverse parallel parking I'm pretty okay.... clearly tis a mental thing

I agree. It's not an ideal situation but at least it's not unfair. I mean, had Leinster got a better draw in 2010, they could have won 4 HCs on the trot. Now, wewouldn't have deserved it because our pack (scrum anyway) was pish that year, but we lost to Toulouse in Toulouse by 10 points, it's not beyond the realms of posibility to think we could have won that if it was at home, then Biarritz in the final? Sure even Munster could beat them.
