Re: US Open Day 11
Tipsy vs Ferrer is a tough one to call. Would fancy Ferrer because he is so relentless and consistent but Tipsy is a similar type of player who on his day cause an upset. Probably fancy Ferrer in 4 sets but could be a tight one.
Del Potro vs Djokovic could be a gem of an encounter. I would always favour Djokovic over 5 sets but this could be an interesting one. If del potro takes the opening set, he could ride the wave. Djokovic is a great front runner as his record suggests when winning opening set. Could go all the way this one, Del Potro could benefit from being tested already while Novak has had it comfortable so far. I have been impressed by Novaks form so far in this tournament

Re: US Open Day 11
On a seperate note, well done to Murray and Berdych for getting to semis. Strangely enough, I had a sneaky feeling about Berdych winning yesterday. Murray did great to come back, mind you how Cilic blew that lead I will never know, he imploded badly. I like the Cilic style of play and his movement really impressed me. Huge potential in him and he has a good variety of shots, love his in to out forehand when he is in full flow.
Once Murray took the 2nd set the writing was on the wall for Cilic. I know this is for another day but I think Berdych vs Murray could be very tight. Berdych certainly does not fear Murray

Ferrer loves to run and returns big serves, its the main reason i'm picking him over Tipsy, who is also a good athlete, but not quite on the level of the top 5. I reckon this could be the match of the day.

Re: US Open Day 11
Surely the matches are on Djokovic's and Tipsy's racquets? i.e. if either play to their potential then they should win. But Tipsy is variable and Ferrer is dogged if nothing else. Djokovic still needs to show he can reach some semblance of the 2011 form against top players. Delpo will hit hard and even, Djokovic loves to normally feed off that type of pace. I think he'll make Delpo look a little wooden out there and win in straights. I'm going for Tipsy in 4 too...I think this guy is finally starting to break through, he's quite a mercurial talent (like Dolgo) and IMO interesting to watch.

I agree Lydian. Typsy is a big talent. He has beaten the likes of Murray and Djokovic before and I remember him taking Federer to 5 sets at Australian Open around 2008 or 2009. When he is in the zone, he can be very dangerous.

It is actually crazy isn't it?
There should be enough prestige in it being one of the four majors in the year without needing any of this superfluous stuff.
I am surprised the players haven't discussed a mass protest about the scheduling in the past, but I suppose Super Sat only affects a very few.

I don't see anything wrong with a set of celebrity tennis as an antidote to the shrieks and sweat of the main events. The main issue that needs to be addressed is the last weekend scheduling. It seems this year will be the last year for "Stupid" aka Super Saturday: Hoorah!HM Murdoch wrote:If there are rain delays and any effort at all is made to accommodate this nonsense, the USO will officially claim the title of The World's Most Ineptly Organised Sporting Event. The Special Juan wrote:John McEnroe/Adam Sandler v Jim Courier/Kevin James *ahem*

What are the chances that one of them will tell McEnroe that he can't be serious? Wouldn't that be hilarious?
Actually, that joke would be based on words, so it's probably a level above Sandler's buffoonery.

Question: Have they really been piggybacking on Super Saturday since 1984?

Does anyone know the intended order of play for Saturday, and what time each semi may start? Me and the fiancé have (annoyingly) been invited to a BBQ and I don't want to commit to anything that may mean missing Murray Berdych.
My assumption is that it might be the earlier match?

I think it's impossible to guess. We won't know for sure until tonight. There were mutterings of the earlier match though but I can't say anything for definite.

Re: US Open Day 11
I'd guess they would put the bigger match on second. So then more can watch. Then again, they might put it on early so it doesn't clash with college football.
Ahh well - least its not the old Super Saturday format, seemed great in 1984, but hardly the best way to run a tournament for the players.

Re: US Open Day 11
If Ferrer wins this match I don't think he'll beat Djokovic but it wll be one very long, very dull match and if that's on at night then the winner will surely come from the Murray/Berdych match although Djokovic has superhuman stamina.

Frig me, who would want to watch Cliff Richard/Ilia Nastase v Joe pasquale/Boris Becker before a Wimbledon q/f.
FFS, only in America.
It would have to be Cliff Richard/Buster mottram v Joe Pasquale/John Lloyd for the all British theme.

Re: US Open Day 11
It really is a battle of wills between Ferrer and Tipsarevic. Both are hitting the ball with great venom and effort. Tipsy has pulled off some great shots and is hanging in there well. The longer this match goes on like this though you feel the more it plays into Djoko or Del Potro's hands for the semi. I have a feeling Ferrer will just win through.

Well as it stands the first 2 quarter finals were 4 setters. This has that making. It makes for compelling viewing for the Del Potro and Djokovic match.
Glad I am not the only one watching it

The pundits were saying yesterday that the fely Djokovic's half of the draws semi would be first up. They felt that would be the case due to this half of the draw being compromised most by the weather. By putting them on first it means they geta few hours longer to recharge their batteries which they will need. If that is the case then I'd imagine the Berdych V Murray semi would start at 9pm (BST).

Murray v Berdych at night is interesting. (IF Murray wins) He gets less time to recover but because it's at night he'll fancy his chances of beating Berdych quicker than during the day.

Fantastic tennis being played in the Ferrer/Tipsarevic match. What was Hawkeye saying? Enthralling rallies having the fans screaming their approval.

Re: US Open Day 11
Juan - yeah very true. It would help him greatly for the semi, yet be worse for him for the final (should he get there). Most importantly though, I could go to the BBQ and be back in time!
Craig - it is a great match. I think I've seen 3 of the rallies of the tournament in the last fifteen minutes. So good they've made Ferrer's feet bleed!

Well I am going to the football on Saturday and won't be home until around 7 or 8pm so I am hoping it will be the night match.

Probably yes. Now whoever plays first is very important, unless the whole day is a washout of course. If Murray is put anywhere near Armstrong he should refuse.

Looking at the forecast I'd say a washout looks a real possibility. Sunday and Monday are set fair though.

2 sets apiece. I said Ferrer before the match, during the match and I'm still sticking with him. Unfortunately, for Tipsy there's a reason why he is a Top 10 player and Ferrer is Top 5.

When Tipsy is really motivated, he can completely shred a top player to pieces, as we seen in 3rd set. Ferrer calling an MTO start of 4th makes me very biased in hoping he loses.
