Ferrer wins. What a tremendous match and one of those when its a shame there has to be a loser. Well done David Ferrer but big commiserations to Janko Tipsarevic.

Well done Daveeeeeeed. Wanted Tipsy to win though....shame but probably better for the next round that Ferret progresses, Tipsy's blisters will be open wounds tomorrow and he'll hardly be able to walk. Great match though...

well done Ferrer - what a competitor, Really sad for Tipsy, would love to have seen (literally!) him take this.
Night all - lydian, just to let you know have safely negotiated stairs and reclining on something that definitely feels too soft to be the bath! It's not complaining anyway!

Ferrer not even NEARLY tired. Guess he is one of those guinea pigs they make lab tests on, surgically enhanced his heart, rubber balls where his ankles are, this man is not a natural evolution.
You shamed us all Tipsy, letting this guinea pig through.

Any idea when this match will happen? I went for a run after the Ferrer match finished and was expecting the Delpo-Djokovic match to have started but nothing is on!

I am going to try something out here
So Djokovic wins in 3 sets after storming through the first he fought back after falling behind early in the 2nd to take it on a tiebreak before comfortably sealing the 3rd 6-3.
lets see what happens

Well you got the 2nd set right. Though, I believe Djokovic needs a double break to get the 6-3 in this set?

Del Potro is playing so well but on this surface Djokovic is just too good, he is running everything down, he just can't do that on grass or fast hard courts. Its amazing to watch, no shot DelPo does seems out of reach even when he's crushing the ball. Awesome Novak

Someday I will ask you what CAS (if it is a mnemonic), what it means. DelPo was unlucky with hawkeye challenges tonight.

Rallies of 4 or more strokes. 45 won by Djokovic, 18 by DelPo.

Re: US Open Day 11
Delpo just too inconsistent. With some exceptions, most of the rallies are not endless rallies where Nole ultimately outlasts Delpo. It is more often Delpo trying to hit a few pacey balls but missing pretty quickly.laverfan wrote:Rallies of 4 or more strokes. 45 won by Djokovic, 18 by DelPo.

Re: US Open Day 11
What a great set of quarter finals!
Berdych creates an upset (of sorts) in beating Fed, the #1 seed.
Murray seemingly down and out against Cilic but pulls it back.
Tipsy and Ferrer give us an exciting 5 setter where you can't tell who is going to win until the end of the final set tie break.
Djokovic Delpo was probably the least interesting for the neutral. But when Novak performs well enough to beat a player as good as Del Potro in straights, I always enjoy it!

Re: US Open Day 11
Murdoch that was a stellar performance outside his low first serve percentage. The 84 minute second set just took the legs completely out of Del Po to work that hard and to lose the set is tough. Maybe it is time for us to forget the bad summer and spring and be a bit more optimistic. He needs this title I feel big time Novak. This is a big statement tournament that he has to have. The amazing thing is that for both him and Murray it will mean so much, so much more than it would for fed and Nadal. Of course for murray it is even bigger. This was a three set match between Novak and Del Po but it was a much closer and more high quality match than the score indicated. I always look for Novak winners to unforced errors I think he had 43 winners and was 15 or 16 that is about the level he needs to lift the trophy.

Ferrer and tipsy was one of the great matches I have seen for me maybe the best match of the year frankly. Both guys for me delivered shots I didn't think they had. Ferrer fighting back from a break down in the fifth, Tipsy in particular was hitting some jaw dropping shots a little sad to see him lose.

Socal, my optimism may be on the return!
It's been hard to fully judge Novak's form because it has been quite an easy draw. Last night it got difficult though and he still sailed through.
I think it is helping Novak to have Vajda and his whole team with him. He seems much more steady when they are around.

Hmmmmm it feels like 2011 all over again.
Saw Djokovic pretty much dismantle Del Potro. Still without dropping a set and he can still play better. After Ferrer's marathon with Tipsy will leave nothing left to really trouble Djokovic.
As a Murray fan despite having Berdych in the semi, I kinda fear another 3 set demolition in the final if he makes it.
Beautifully poised none the less.

yeah they do have a certain connection that seems often with a look or gesture or some encouragement Vajda can calm him down where the others in the team I don't think carry the same kind of weight. Yes I am bit more optimistic as well. I think the toughest final would murray but you can't sleep on berdych if he is playing well enough to get to the final either. And you can't count out ferrer either, he for some reason really plays Novak tough. Novak is not comfortable in any of his matches against Ferrer despite the fact that he wins pretty much all the really big matches between the two. I think this will be a tough 4 set three and half plus hour match with Novak finally running Ferrer a bit ragged.

I'd be surprised if Andy were beaten in straights.legendkillarV2 wrote:

Until the QFs, Andy was my marginal favourite; I saw it as about 55/45 if he played Djoko.
I'd now say the odds are the same but in Novak's favour.
As a Novak fan, I'm still very wary of Andy in the final.
As you say, beautifully poised.

Re: US Open Day 11
Legend, Murray has to feel it is his best chance ever with Rafa and Roger out. Both Novak and Andy have to know this is a golden opportunity. And one or possibly both of them will have blown that opportunity to some extent at the end of the weekend, tennis is such a cruel game.

I agree. That's why I'll be hoping for the early SF slot! I don't want a long war of attrition the night before playing Murray or Berd.socal1976 wrote:you can't count out ferrer either, he for some reason really plays Novak tough. I don't know guys. Djokovic is just about out of 2nd gear and winning comfortably.
All the time Murray's serve is down below 60% I am concerned given that Djokovic is the best returner on the first serve.
It will be a great match up with the best returner of the first serve against the best returner of the second serve.
Berdych is no walk over. Paris 2011 still looms large in the mind and if there is rain, it will favour Berdy.

Re: US Open Day 11
Glad Ferrer won as a Tipsy victory would almost certainly have guaranteed Djoko a place in the final. I think Nole will beat the Spaniard, but at least he'll have to work for it.
Difficult to know what to think about the Murray-Berdbrain semi. Murray certainly can't afford bad patches. Andy M - of the big four - is still the one likely to chuck in an inexplicably bad performance. You could argue that he already has done so - in the first half of the Cilic match.
I'm going for a Murray-Djoko final, with Djoko to win in four.

I think Murray has a real fight on his hands with Berdy, when the guy plays in full flow he can really take the racquet out of the hands of anyone on tour with his easy power in all areas of the game.
If Murray gets into the final with Djoko I think we will see a cracker, I never mistake a bit of poor form for a difference class. Murray is going to want and need that win so bad that I think he will have a plus in the intangible department. I would be very surprised if Murray and Novak played each other if the match lasted less than 4 hours and was one sided. It will be close with Novak being the small favorite going in.

Re: US Open Day 11
The one thing that worried me is that for a period in the second set Novak missed like 13 out 15 first serves to start the set it was some ridiculous statistic. Mysteriously for the first two service games of the set he couldn't get a first over to save his life. Overral in the match I don't know the exact stat but Novak was less than overwhelming. Del Po served at 83 percent in the first set, still got broken twice and could have lost anyone of his service games quite easily. And he wasn't arming these balls in he was routinely in the 120s and low 130s but is there anyone that can make 130 mile an hour serve look ordinary like that so often?

Re: US Open Day 11
Cilic's brainwave went into overdrive with the 2nd set begging at his mercy, Berdych won't make that same hideous mistake boys, I can guarantee you.
Not only am I confident in the win, I am also to predict he will have plenty of energy left to dethrone one of the two pushers in the final.
VAMOS!

Ferrer won't be tired. Djokovic might beat him in straight sets but a) It will be rather dull and b) There will be a lot of long, long rallies.
