I thought Stringer had a good game. He revelled in the English premiership last year and brought a bit of bite to Munster tonight...

Munster fans you really are being hard on yourselves, you played well, bar the scrum.

Ospreys must be very proud, that was a superb performance and the kind of stuff that will start to fill the liberty week in week out if it is to continue.

I thought the red card was the wrong decision in the replay, he didn't kick AWJ in the face.

We should give the O's more credit but we don't like losing Very Happy

But the quality of this league improves year on year and it was a tough game.

First things first I thought Dangerous Dudley had a fantastic game as referee. I did ask the lads if we should actually bother going to the game because he was in charge of it, we saw a 7 try thriller involving Kenfig hill, and discussed staying in the club house all night, but we did go to the Ospreys game.

I have not gone to games in the past knowing that he'd be there to referee, which would normally mean it would be ruined but fair play tonight he was consistent and in control of both teams and not overly fussy with his whistle.

Mentally I'm going to promote him up the table from the other incompetent referees, so now we have 1) Whistler Wilkinson, 2) Calamitous Clancy, and 3) Fussy Fitzgibbon.

I'm glad the Ospreys played well too, we're a different team with AWJ, Ianto, Adam and Ryan in the team. The only disappointment was PoC wasn't playing I love watching Ianto bully him. furious

Maesteg: the replay did not show the red card incident. It showed DOC use the boot (fairly IMO ). The camera moved for the varley incident. FLY: I agree with you. May be my past, I'd prefer to go down fighting =D

Oh I see, as they showed that I thought that was the incident, thought it was Varley not DOC. They showed the reel immediately after the incident, easy mistake to make as a viewer.

Agree about the refereeing it was a good, consistent and fair performance

What I really enjoyed about the game last night was that the players who I don't rate had exceptionally good games. Khan was superb at scrum half absolutely superb. The second string front row that are meant to be our illustrious future who have let themselves down before at scrum time were in great shape. Isaacs was solid and fast on the wing, Fussell was great at fullback, though I would still like to see more of Ross Jones given more time. Even JT looked good when he came on.

Biggar managed the team very well from ten. Khan cleverly, took away a great deal of pressure from him so he could control the game this massively improves Biggar's passing and kicking from hand, but more importantly his decision making, which was excellent. Biggar's goal kicking was good, missed one he should have got but we wont complain in the circumstances.

But Biggar did have a moment of idiocy. He appealed to the ref that a Munster backrower, who had tried to intercept an Osprey pass in our 22 near the end of the game, had committed a deliberate knock on. Biggar really annoys me whenever I see his face go red and screw up as he shouts and his arms wave around in the air. If I were Tandy I would fine him every time he did that. He will get yellow carded for appealing or complaining one day and it will cost us dearly.

Ospreys Website wrote:

Despite watching the Ospreys notch up an impressive victory over European heavyweights Munster at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday night, Backs Coach Gruff Rees has told the players that there is still plenty of room for improvement.

The Ospreys came out on top, winning 30-15 with tries from Richard Fussell and Richard Hibbard to go with a penalty try won by a dominant pack, Dan Biggar also kicking 15 points.
As pleased as he was to continued improvements from the Ospreys after a sluggish start to the new season, when he spoke to the press post-match Rees was quick to highlight what he called "a few dodgy periods" as well as giving the team a pat on the back for the way they worked hard to secure an impressive result.

"We showed some slight progression from last week" was his immediate reaction.

"There was lots of positive intent as there always has been, but we showed a little bit more common sense in what we're doing. We were good in terms of physicality around the contact area, to keep us going, allowing us to put them on the back foot for longer periods.

"That praise is not withstanding a few dodgy periods in the middle when we had a bit of looseness about our game. We have to go up another notch. We were pleased tactically with the first 25 but were disappointed with the last 15 going into half-time. We spoke honestly with the players that we needed to sharpen up and push things on, which we did to a certain extent in the second half, but even so perhaps there were further opportunities that we didn't put away.

"We look at our average points per 22 entry and it's not anywhere near where it should be at the moment. That's a big focus for us in training. We are reducing our turnover rate but even so we need to be more clinical and show a bit more patience. Sometimes you get these games that can loosen up like it did at times tonight and you do get carried away with it.

"There were three or four cheap turnovers, which I'm disappointed with because we just forced what wasn't even a 50/50. If we can keep hold of it for longer periods, and I'll refer back to the end of last season when we were going through long phases of play, you do get your rewards. We've got to just keep hammering that home.

"We looked heavily in the week at the way Rob Penney is trying to evolve the Munster style to his credit, and it was a constant challenge defensively for us. It was perhaps different to a traditional challenge against Munster but it was where the boys known they've been in a hell of a game, perhaps a different type of a game to normal. I think it's a promising season for Munster, they are still riding high in the league and I sincerely believe they'll be up there in Europe as always.

"It's another building block for us in Italy next week to get better. We've spoken about the looseness tonight from a technical point of view where we weren't as crisp. It's a different type of opposition to tonight clearly, the kind we haven't always dealt with effectively in the past, going to Italy.

"Obviously there's Treviso a few weeks ago, but even when we look to the two Aironi away games previously we've been turgid and dragged down in games we could have lost so we've got to make sure that we apply the same sort of positive attitude to our ball in play. Our physicality and directness has got to come to the fore, not just for next week in terms of our performance and to finish this block of league games in a healthy state, but also as a launch pad for the following weeks after that."

That is a point I definitely have shared many a time regarding the Ospreys and Rees is correct. We have the forward power to command a game but not the patience to execute points when we have gained territory. Patience is a huge part of winning when you can apply pressure.

Wales did this so well during the RWC last year, the Ospreys excelled at it in the later stages of last season.

I am starting to like Rees and Tandy, they make a apply a lot of common sense, they really might be a good coaching pair.

Super performance from the Ospreys, great follow up to their performance at PYS.

I watched the game on S4C in English, the Welsh guy commentating in the first half was awful, he was so one sided it was embarrassing. What a contrast to the Irish commentry broadcast in the second half which enlightened and totally unbiased. I hope someone from S4C reads this!

I thought the Ref was quite poor in the first half in particular. His interpretation at the breakdown caused a lot of confusion, mainly in the Munster team. This ultimately led to the Munster sin binning which ended the game as a contest, Munster can feel pretty aggrieved! He also did not have a clue what was going on in the front rows, the Ospreys did not have any real ascendancy in this department until the sin binning. Also Ospreys pushed before the ball went in for the penalty, so he got that wrong as well! The red card incident was not shown on TV but if deliberate contact was made to the face then red is the correct decision (Derek Bevan please note!)

The pack again were the stars for the Ospreys, Hibbard was immense, his scrumaging in particular was superb. But can you see him being selected for Wales after his idiocy in Australia? Also a mention for Ryan Jones who has singlehandedly turned around the Ospreys season.

Behind the scrum Biggar kicked superbly but blew a try scoring chance by not passing after he had made a super break. Fortuali was again very good, far more of a team player and tactician than Webb, takes a lot of pressure of his 10 (lets hope Webb was watching). I was surprised that Bishop was selected after his court case this week but he played very well, the pick of the three quarters. Fussell looked tidy but he will be having nightmares about being caught by Earls!

My only worry for the Ospreys in Europe is that they are currently relying on dominating their opponents up front and lack a cutting edge behind. The question is whether they will dominate the first choice 8s they encounter in the Heineken?

Tipuric was incredible too. On current form he looks miles ahead of Warburton. Wales are very lucky right now with the backrowers they have, even with Lydiates injury.

Could well be Tips, Ryan and Toby in the Welsh back row this autumn.

I dont think Warbs is playing badly, just Cardiff are.

The Munster pack were put on a cross and crucified there yikes. Archer got swallowed up.

Thought Sherry did well and DOC again looked like he has improved hugely on last season.

I'm not sure if it was a) the weak pack, b) ROG or c) both but Munster looked like Munster of last year and not Penny's Munster.

I would hazard a guess at both because when Botha and Keatly came on Munster improved.

Casey at 12 was not a winner for me and if Downey had been in there he could have got Munster going forward more, Casey didn't have as much room to use the feet at 12 as he did at 13.

PS: Earls chasing back to make that try saving tackle! The boy has got WHEELS.......

cough winger cough possibly fullback cough

Clears throat

I think Downey and Laulala could be the best midfield. Is Downey injured? Earls should be at full back. O'Gara looked like an OAP compared to some of the other athletes on the field, get Keatley and JJ on to the pitch.

Totally agree Morg.

Hurley is solid and has a lot of muscle and power but Earls could really thrive there while we have already seen from the opening rounds how well Downey and Lualala can combine. Their balance is fantastic and they get Munster going forward. One is a specialist 12 and the other a specialist 13.

I didn't think ROG was any slower to be honest but some passes were poor, he stood INCREDIBLY deep trying to launch moves (no excuses with Stringers service) and his line kicking didn't have as much distance when it was in open play (not kicking the line from a penalty)

With that said, I think in the latter half of the match, Stringers passing looked like it was travelling a lot slower. Ospreys defence was right in Munsters face.

I agree from the stand it appeared the teams were lining up for a lineout and the scrum half was facing the wrong way, and was not sure what he was doing. The referee went over to him and called the medics over. He did seem very disorientated.

Ah yes remember now, fair enough has to be done. Strange one about concussion in the Aussie Bokke game yesterday about one lad being concussed but they'd made 7 subs so couldn't bring anyone on for him
