14 balls remaining, NZ 114-5. They somehow have to reach 140.

when you see where the score was you realise NZ have had the better of the second half of this.

Free hit, Franklin on strike. And well done Broad with the ball, not with the reaction though!.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
The rule came about as a result of as gamesmanship. They only wanted to gain an advantage over Finn in the test series, it was a premeditated action that led to the authorities having to make a ruling. However it is clear the ruling doesn't seem to fit well with t20. They should go back to how it was. I.e. the ball stays live.

1 over to go, NZ coming back strongly. England have to keep them below 150.

141-5 after 19. 150 would give NZ bowlers something to bowl at, but England still should chase that down. Bresnan has to bowl a good last over though.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
In the end the kiwis are absolutely stuffing England
They are a bloody Shambles. All that good work ruined by the control of a three year old. Broad no better than dernbache.
Kiwi have won it. England will just collapse.
Looks a short boundary, I cannot see why the far superior kiwis have not batted much better than this until now.

It just isn't right on Finn's part to do it every 2nd ball though, and they have to call it a no ball, so that the England coaches would take note.LivinginItaly wrote:The rule came about as a result of as gamesmanship. England will chase this down. As Sri Lanka proved, New Zealand just don't have a good bowling attack. Cracking last over from Bresnan here.

50 for Franklin. Bresnan got away with a wide with the previous ball. Franklin runout with 1 ball remaining.

148-6 after 20. From 67-4, I think they'll take it.
But England strong favorites to win this.

they're all out already msp?
CK is another who keeps failing. The team is just too fragile.

Shocking effort by Kieswetter - Lumb in for next game? Anyway, 22/1 after 4 overs is decent.

That was a slog from Hales. Horrible shot. It's all well and good using your foot, but not if you are going to hack horribly when you get there. 42-2.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
it's a fair point made about nrr. Eng are just trickling along really when they needed more.
If they'd kep it tighter at the end then it wouldn't be an issue.

flurry of 6's there.
wierd how this match as been such a struggle with sudden bursts of big hitting.
Both teams could and probably should have batted much better.

Some innings from Wright , this.
They had me worried at 50/2 off 9 , but Wright has made it look quite a comfortable chase in the end.

oh god sake. limp dismissal.
i was watching, my bad. they are making what should have been an easy chase once they got ahead a real struggle.
and they think they have a hope of beating SL? no chance.

Come on trebs ... Beat Sri Lanka will probably do the trick.
No guarantee of course , but if you can't win two out of three you don't deserve it. I think they're about fifty-fifty to win and go through.
What we don't want is wash outs...

no that's true. i think they're too weak to win it this time and probably will crash out but at least they have won a game in the s8's now.
As we saw from India yesterday, any team can have a shambles of a game here.

I'm guessing it would be better if the Windies beat Sri Lanka from an England perspective - that ensures a straight shoot-out between England and Sri Lanka on Monday. However, a Sri Lankan victory and things could go down to NRR.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Well, comfortable for England in the end, Wright played his 2nd important innings in the tournament.
But Kieswetter's struggles continue, he didn't get out in the first over today, but 4 of 14 isn't much better. Perhaps they should now seriously think of Lumb opening, with Buttler or Bairstow taking the gloves.
Nothing special from Briggs either, many were arguing him over Patel will make a world of difference. Think Patel is the safer option, Bresnan at 7, well that won't make me very confident.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Poor captaincy again from Taylor. Why was Bracewell picked in the first place, only to bowl the 19th over? They way Vetori and Nathan McCullum kept things tight, perhaps he should have used Williamson a bit as well. Williamson's position in the team is another issue. Obviously tallent he is, but haven't yet got really going in this format. Perhaps they should open with him letting him build an innings at a run a ball and the others can play around him.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Kieswetter is a concern for England. Last time he and Lumb did pretty well at the start of innings , and I would suggest Hales is a better player than Lumb (although I wish he wouldn't play those heaves across the line early on !) , but CK is neither scoring quickly nor giving England a solid start.
Wright is not Pietersen , but he has shown he has the capacity to hit cleanly and long , and once given a start he looks a very dangerous player. Add Morgan's special skills and the two young fellows at five and six and it doesn't look too awful , but they can't afford to keep losing a wicket in the first over or two every time.
You could open with Wright I suppose , play Bairstow at three , let CK bat a six ? But I don't like that either...so it is either stick with Kieswetter or throw Lumb in against Sri Lanka.
Pity Matt Prior isn't here
