Malinga on. He hasn't really hit his peak form in the tournament as yet.

Bad decision to send Bairstow in at three for me. I hope they keep holding back the spinners....

Well this is a great start... Too early for Mogs to come in?

Not starting against spin hasn't helped Bairstow, went 2nd ball and England in early trouble at 18-2 in the 3rd over. And the spinners haven't bowled even 1 over as yet.

Instead of naturalising South Africans we need to get in Sri Lankans.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
I understand England not wanting Morgan to be exposed right away, and that Hales wicket has made it immaterial anyways, but Patel and not Buttler at 4? Hmmmm, Samit has scored a few runs against the spinners in the sub-continent, still.......

And Malinga is off after that demolition job and Mathews back in. whosoever is captaining Lanka perhaps would have thought of getting through a couple of overs from the other seamers. But Patel hits him for a 6. Still not a lot from the over. 28-3 after 5.

Hopefully Samit and Mogs can build a partnership and then one can get 70+ and Buttler can produce a great knock as well, it is still possible. But only just...

The Lankan captain overbowling Kula here? Perhaps Perera if not Malinga himself should have been in charge of this over?

Patel's batting really well here. The spin exam has started, how would England go about it?

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
The sad truth is this England team just wasn't anywhere near good enough. One or two may get better with experience , but really only Broad , Swann , Bresnan , Finn and Morgan out of the whole squad have serious international records ...the rest are either very new or have played a fair bit of limited over cricket for rather ordinary results. And Bresnan wasn't even picked for this game ...
The batting simply lacks a bit of class , and whether spin or pace is bowled hasn't mattered much , it has not stood up at this level , apart from two or three individual efforts. Once the pressure was applied by an tough target to chase , a collapse was always likely.
Super eight was probably all we should have expected.
If Morgan and Patel score nine per over from here and win the match I shall deny writing the above , of course

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
I had a look earlier., sl were at 17 .2 overs and around 130.
so who utterly cocked this one up in the bowling then?
we know out batsmen are a shambles , so who put this pressure on them.
that's the wc gone anyway, we were never nearly good enough.

Required run rate up to 10.5. Basically Bopara hasn't got more than about 3 balls to play himself in.....

Ravi Bopara at 6, I really hope he has put that horrific stretch of batting form behind. Otherwise a 5th wicket is round the corner.

Realistically the only outside hope was that Buttler really comes off alongside Patel. Now he's got the chance....

Malinga is left with another 3 overs. The only one he bowled was far too hot for England!!.

Buttler goes. Maybe time to send in Dernbach for his last England appearance, as a pinch hitter!
