Hussey gone now...Australia sinking fast.
Should have put money on Sri Lanka ... Surely West Indies won't have another day out like this twice in a row ?

Clarke once "bowled" I think Neil Broom of NZ when the ball went over the stumps and the bails were dislodged by Haddin's gloves.
Hussey gone, game over surely.
Australia still at 6/1. West Indies good value at 1/9 right now!
Not often you see Australia freeze in a major game like this.

Not sure I agree. He was playing the ball well and it's one of his shots. First couple of balls in the over you're looking for a boundary to put the pressure on.
Watson cleaned up now. This is murder.

PS Those odds must change now with the fall of the 3rd wicket!

this is truly awful from Australia. The ball after missing a pull shot to a ball that skids on Watson tries to repeat the shot and is clean bowled.

George Bailey I think can actually play a bit. I think he gets an unfair amount of stick sometimes. Although captaincy was poor today.
In any case this game has long gone.

Those keeping tack on the odds will notice the West Indies are now 1/750...
Oooh some poor umpiring to talk about. Surely the second bouncer in the over that one?
Taufel will be the only happy Australian I reckon...

And Australia always turn up for the major events.
Seriously, when was the last time you saw an Australian team look as hapless on the world stage? It's been bizarre...

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Five gone ...record defeat looming...
Guess this sort of match was always possible : West Indies big hitters were always going to try to clear the boundary , Australia's back up bowling was of questionable quality , and faced with a big chase a collapse is not too surprising...
It is the degree to which the game has gone one way that is surprising...although the fact that Australia came into this tournament with a woeful recent record in T20 had perhaps been obscured a bit by their good run through the group stages.
Six out now...

and how to you bat now if you're an Aussie? Try to salvage some minimum of pride or just say "screw it, nothing to lose let's slog"?

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Coming from a total neutral, it's an absolute joy to see Oz take a pasting - rarely have I seen such a joyless, boorish bunch on the cricket field and particularly that arch-boor, fatboy Warner. Such a pleasure to watch SL last night and WI today - final should be great - Mahela and Sanga v Gayle and Samuels, Herath and Mendis v Narine.
Jeez another wicket down since I started typing. Yippee
Enjoy the long flight home Oz

unfortunately (?) I missed the WI innings, but the reply has been as you say hapless. Bailey could still score 150 or so

what a daft comment. Aus have been one of the more exciting teams to watch this tournament, Watson, Warner and Hussey all exciting batsmen, and their fast bowlers are coming along nicely too.
If you're calling Warner "fat", I suggest you don't watch much cricket. The guy's one of the best athletes out there..

I know not quite the same Mike , but I couldn't resist it...
I wouldn't stress too much - this kind of thing can happen in this ultra short format. But it is a handy reminder that this Australian squad is still a work in progress.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
It was always on the cards. young inexperienced attack, without any sure spin options on a pitch not really in their favour, against powerful line-up with several players who can clear the boundaries with mishits.
Then a top-heavy line-up under pressure to smash it from the word go, a couple of early wickets etc.
But to this extent? That has been a surprise.
You would have gotten decent odds on Bailey being the first/only player in this line-up to hit a 6 BTW... He can certainly play a bit.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Russell gets a bowl for the first time in about three matches
shouldn't have bothered, goes for ten off two balls first up.
make that 14 off 3, Rampaul completely misjudging an easy catch. shouldn't be out there in the first place.
another six! 20 off 4 balls this over

Russell showing that contrary to popular belief his bowling is actually a bit rubbish. Slot bowling I call it.
Bailey showing he can play a bit more than a bit.
Australia have at least gone past their previous worse innings. What's the record defeat in T20s?

well batted Geroge Bailey, playing a lone hand, 50 from 23 balls

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
A pretty poor over from Russell that was.
Australia is a side that would fight absolutely to the last ball, and so when they are down, you just shouldn't let up on the pressure.

true, but still... fine leg up to Cummins (daft, unlikely that Cummins will slap it over mid-off) and goes for the leg stump yorker

If any side in the world is capable of losing from here on, it has to be the West Indies. Even for them this would really take some doing to let go though.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
I like Bailey. He has been put under pressure by being made captain before he was even established in any form of the game , and the knives would be out for him after a heavy defeat ...but this innings may go a long way towards protecting his position.
Not sure how far he will go , or whether he can break into the Test team , but I am glad to see him showing some spirit in this hopeless cause today.
Will be a fair bit of juggling for spots among youngish Australian batsmen over the next couple of years , and he is one of them.
