The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the historical city of Rome, the owner Giiovanni, is a Canadian-Italian, and welcomes all after a great day of rugby.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Dane Coles, Aaron Jarvis, Samson Lee and Schalk Brits up on the wall. Erm, actually there is a second rule. No elephants, unless they're Effervescing - we can't be barring a Chiefs fan

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
Its preferable rodders, for sure. But so long as we get tighthead covered... I don't care.
The worrying thing is there are no promising home grown players coming through. Macklin isn't trusted at Ulster in a scrummaging capacity, indeed I've heard whispers of a return to the backrow for him. In terms of being injury prone Fitzpatrick makes Ferris look durable. Hagan has not kicked on at Leinster, though I always contested he was overrated at Connacht. Loughney is poor. Archer? Maybe one day.
Hugely frustrating given how many quality looseheads we have coming through.

Awesome! My uncle's run the London marathon a few times. When I was 25 I had a £50 bet with my sister that I'd run the London marathon by the time I was 30. Now the bet's £100 that I'll run it by the time I'm 40.

I used to run cross country when I was younger, my stamina was pretty good then. I might have to give up the non-jazz cigarettes before I start running properly again!

Yeah I think it's one of the flatter marathons, there were 3 "hills", but none of them really counts

Great effort CJ.
Evening pubpickers.
Just posted on the Ireland squad thread on SA's injury list. It's a lengthy list and full of very significant players.
Biltong
So what's the deal with this new TH prop Ireland have brought in from Taranaki? If he qualifies, he qualifies, fair enough. But I think England, Wales and Scotland would get some fearful flak if they pulled off a stunt like that.
It seems to have slipped under the radar of the usual 606 bickering brigade.

That is an excellent time CJ, I ran the Birmingham Marathon in 4.29 (I think) when I was 17. I didn't do any marathon specific training but didn't feel I needed to as I was doing about 14 hours of sport every week.
I didn't hit the 18 mile wall at all, like yourself, I found the last 2 miles the worst 2 miles of my life, I was soaked to the skin and had the worst cramps I've ever experienced in my calf muscles, I could have quit at every step and kept reminding myself that the first Marathon runner actually Karked it.
Was it your first?
Are you likely to do it again?
Really impressed CJ, fantastic effort. Don't forget to re-hydrate

Absolutely not!!!
Have a great evening CJ, btw.
On the Ireland TH 'crisis'; in much the same way as the Provinces are benefitting from NZ head coaches, you could do far worse than try to tempt some French scrum coaches.
The climate might be a problem recruiting them though.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
MrsP may be on to something here, speaking from my own experience? I'd say by 9.30 you may be needing a bit of a rest CJ.
Tomorrow you will awake in a world of pain, the like of which you will not experience again... until Wednesday.
Wednesday will be the worst.
Pleasure, don't mention it.
Hound, .
I think the Bent issue is a doddle to be fair, in the eyes of the coaching set-up he's a better prop than the others available for Ireland, no reason why he can't play and no reason why he shouldn't.
I didn't like Hape or Flutey playing for England as they'd represented NZ and the NZ Maori at senior level, I find it hard to see how THEY could then go on to represent England, in situations like that I think the questions have to be asked of the individuals as opposed to the system.
Where Bent's concerned I think the questions have to be asked of the other IQ props, I can't see them getting worse because of some extra competition, maybe they should have improved more before Bent even became an issue?

On the Bent Affair... Leinster have been shrewd and have put 2 fingers up to the IRFU Directive by scouring the Planet for IQ´s with the talent to make it.
Strauss is one. I hope Bent is another. And may it wake up the indigenous front-rowers like Cronin & Hagan (insert your provincial prefs here), to reach for the next level. It does not have to be a bad thing ya know. In a true meritocracy, the best man plays. And those chasing him, strive to play better.
Besides, we give away most of our 1st XV to them as it is.

Hound, on the Bent affair haven't England, Wales and Scotland already been down the same road?
I think its a discrace that someone who hasn't set foot in this country and who hasn't played a game in the NH can be shoehorned into the Ireland squad. I don't care if he turns out to be the best TH in the world it isn't right and anyone who thinks it is is being hypocritical. I notice a lot of my countrymen lauding this. A few of them a something to say when Thomas Waldrom suddenly found a long lost granny recently.
You can bet your last dollar if Rob Herring or Sean Doyle had been brought into that squad there would have been uproar in D4.
