Well I'm glad my prediction was wrong. Although we didn't play that well, we took our chances and killed the game in the first half.
Reina had his best game of the season. Lets hope we can get a result against Spurs.

He done well when he came on yesterday, and allowed us to get control of the midfield.
For all the talk about Bale, Dembele for me was the best player on the pitch yesterday. He looks an absolute beast of a player.

The ease with which Dembele glides past players is really quite frightening, although I thought playing him out wide and Livermore centre unbalanced Spurs.
Should have put Holtby wide, and kept Dembele centre mid

Yer I thought Dembele played well, especially at the start of the second half. It was a good shout bringing Allen on to try and get a foothold in midfield and it paid off.
Liverpool and gave away points a few times this season (City TWICE!!) so it was nice to have some luck come our way for a change and pick up the win. We'll have to keep this momentum going with a win at Southampton!
Come on the REDS

Yeah playing him out wide was a bad decision, but even so he still impacted the game. How much did Spurs pay Fulham for him?

Further proof(if it was needed for anyone) that rodgers has no plan b. We can look very good if were allowed to play, but when tes set out the stall we have no ideas how to break them down. And yet another ridiculous post match interview from BR, literally going to have to stop watching them because that man is really starting to bother me with his constant stream of cr*p!

Only consolation is that Everton were pegged back at the death. Really thought we'd do West Ham and Spurs would beats the Bitters putting us 6th. Then the possibility of 5th might gee the boys up a bit.
Again, lots of good play spoiled by bad luck/bad finishing/good goalkeeping.
Europe is still possible but again, we're relying on other messing it up rather than it being in our own hands.

Any time europe is mentioned as a possibility the team seem to bottle it! Points to a squad lacking in mental strength and quite possibly a manager who is out of his depth! Just once i would love to see BR give the squad the hairdryer treatment, rather than talking about positives which to be frank, he is the only person seeing them in some games!

Agree entirely, Gerrard comes out and says a perfect finish will see them back in Europe and then the lose to Southampton. It seemed Southampton wanted to avoid the drop far more than LFC wanted to push for a "lowly" Europa league place. They don't seem to grasp the fact that the only way they'll get the money to push for the top spot is to keep playing in Europe or sell Suarez for £40million+ which will greatly reduce their ability to qualify for Europe.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
Dave ive pretty much resigned myself to us losing suarez. And in all honesty i wont blame him for leaving, hes a world class player and belongs in the champions league! I can only hope that the owners give us the 40/50 million back to spend on the squad. If you add to that some money from the owners we could potentially have 60/70 to spend, which is enough to give the squad a good overhaul!(would love to keep suarez though).

As i have said before i dont mind us selling anyone ...as long as the price is right and the money goes back into making the team/squad stronger.
But i dont think Suarez will leave next year though , and to be fair we dont need to sell him given hes under contract for 4 more years

Unless we get top four next season, I believe Suarez will leave. If he doesn't, I take my hat off to him (unless of course the only reason he's staying is that his form has dipped so badly, he makes Torres look like Messi).
There's potential for next season (but we always say that) however we do need an Alonso type playmaker though and I'd love to believe that's where they're focusing their attention (along with a couple on CB's)

I think it's been obvious since the day he left that he wants to return, he's desperate for it, he loves the club, the city and its fans. I think he also feels he has a lot of unfinished business at the club, after he arguably would have stayed a lot longer had the club not been seriously disrupted by Hicks and Gillet.
I wouldn't be against him returning, he's been Liverpool's best manager since Kenny Dalglish at the end of the 80s, winning the Champions League, FA Cup and coming so close to winning the Premier League in 08/09.
However, I also want to see the club have a more stability and that means giving Rodgers time. I feel sorry for Benitez as I think he's a much better manager than a lot give him credit for.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
I wouldn't want him back and think he's peaked as a manager. Since leaving the club he's become slighty unhinged.
Shoulda won the title in 09 but his mid season team meddling, which culminated in too many draws, cost us. You'll probably never see a team lose only two matches and not win a title. His obsession with the CL blinkered his thinking.
The Champions League triumph was great but I still wouldn't put his work for the club above Gerard Houlliers. But that's a different argument altogether.
He had his shot. You don't re-heat old meat.

Really?
Houiller won the Treble, but I'd put Benitez' achievements well ahead of Houiller's. While you could argue that Houiller laid the foundations, I'm not sure the squad he left Benitez was really that good. Benitez managed to turn the club into a genuinely world class one that every year from 05-09 looked like it could win the Champions League.
I do think he always felt more confident in the CL than he did in the Premier League, where he'd underestimate the smaller sides, but for me he's vastly superior to Houiller whose main achievements bar the Treble, were some good signings and bringing on Owen, Gerrard and Carragher.
Benitez was one of the first managers to regularly use the 4-2-3-1 formation before it became the most wildly used formation in Europe.
I agree that he hasn't been able to find the same success since he left, but he's hardly had that much chance to impress. Mourinho didn't leave a great Inter side behind, it had obviously peaked and pretty much all the players in that side have failed to recreate their quality from 2010, this can't be put down to Benitez. At Chelsea he's done alright, I defy any manager to be really successful under such hard circumstances, the fans are on his back constantly.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
I'd be surprised to see Benitez manage a club as big as 'Pool or Chelsea again, in this country anyway. As you say he's a little desperate for a return to Anfield but would the fans really want it? I'd be surprised if 30% of them would warm towards the idea.
I just think it's a dead duck.

Agree with this , we really should of won the league in 09 . But i also think he would still be manager today if it weren't for Hicks and Gillett

Seeing you're being linked with Williams again this morning!
I like him as a defender, but he really isn't any better than what you already have, and at 28 he isn't getting younger.
And it sounds like Swansea would rip you off for him

I'd have thought you'd go for someone a bit younger myself. There are some good lads knocking around in Holland, the one who plays for Feyenoord called Van Dijk or something, is only 21 club captain and a full Holland international.
Consider Spurs got Vertonghen for £7m they're not too expensive either

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
As disappointing as Skrtel has been this year, he's definitely better than Williams, he's just had a bad run and then has been dropped.
I'd much rather that next year Rodgers stuck with Agger and Skrtel who have shown in the past that they're a really good partnership. Skrtel is very much a confidence player, and if Rodgers shows his confidence in him, Skrtel will show his true form.
I don't want us spending big money in the summer on a centre back, just a decent centre back to cover Agger and Skrtel to replace Carragher. I wouldn't even be against using the likes of Wisdom or Kelly in the centre back position.

Wisdom and Kelly are both centre backs really aren't they ?
Williams gets mentioned because of the Swansea links obviously , i think the one thing going for him is he organizes the defence well so in that way he is seen as a Carra replacement

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
If Rodgers can get Downing playing well then it's to be hoped he can reinvigorate Skrtel cause I don't rate Williams in the slightest and certainly don't think he's anywhere near the £12 million bracket.
We need some steel back in the back four and when Skrtel and Agger are on form, there are few better partnerships in the Premiership.
Also been mentioned that West Ham are prepared to offer £10 million for Carroll. being the optimistic soul I am, I can see one of two things happening...
1/ LFC keep Andy and he fails to adjust to the role Rodgers has in mind for him...people laugh and say we should have taken the £10 mil.
2/ LFC let him go for £10 million and he plays out of his skin for the Hammers culminating in him knocking us out of all cup competitions and preventing us from gaining a top four spot...people laugh and say we should have stuck out for £17 mil

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
What do people think of Carroll next year?
He's had an odd time at West Ham, when he has played he has actually been quite good, but simply isn't the player that is going to score a lot of goals. But he has been injured quite a lot at West Ham.
I don't think he's played well enough that they're going to offer £17 million, and I imagine £10 million is about right for his performances, but that would be a huge loss and I can't help but think that Carroll is actually a really good player and if he can get over his injury problems, which plenty of players have, then he'll do well.
On the other hand, I can't see Rodgers accepting him back into the squad. There has been talk that Rodgers is prepared to give him another chance, even if it's just as an impact substitute, but I think this talk might just be so that teams like West Ham and Newcastle don't make paltry bids.
I wouldn't be totally against giving Carroll another chance, I was against letting him go in the first place, I can't see him having a first team role, but Henderson and Downing have both shown that you can come back from a bad first season and I think Carroll is capable of playing in Rodgers' system, he's certainly got a better first choice than Borini!

I would welcome him back as he offers something different , a plan b if you will .
But im not sure Rodgers wants him back in all honesty , i get the feeling he doesn't want someone on Carrolls wage sitting on a bench . Yet imo he would be a good impact player off the bench and in certain games would be a better starting option then Suarez or Sturridge .

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
I maintain that Carroll was treated unfairly by Rodgers and would love to see him return. Lets not forget that at the back end of last season he was really finding his feet at the club...and then Rodgers turned up.
Rodgers said in the press last week that he's still keen to permanently offload the player and I cant see his stance changing any time soon.
A fit raring Any Carroll is an asset to any team, even if only off the bench.

Carroll was unlucky that he got injured just as he was hitting his stride for West Ham this season.

If we can get over 15 million for him i think we should sell him, if not then keep him. He does add a plan b, the long ball, and while i hate that sort of football its better than what rodgers does now, "oh plan a isn't working...i know, il change absolutley nothing and watch us either draw or concede late".
