New Ireland Alternate Jersey
First topic message reminder :
So following in the foot steps of England's recent faux pas, Ireland have unveiled new black and green alternate kit today.
It can be seen here
As far a style goes, I think it looks pretty nice... but what has possessed them (who ever is responsible) to opt for a black kit? Ireland have a tradition of wearing a white alternative, and even the press release mentions this will be the first time they depart from that tradition for a competitive game.

Well let's face it beshocked, it's the most famous rugby jersey of them all and represents a potent sporting legacy. Teams don't emulate it "by accident" or through some kind of coincidence. They're pitching for something, deliberately.
My feeling is that Ireland were so awed by their 60-0 shellacking that it's affected their entire rugby-playing psychology in some odd way and this is part of the result.

You must live a pretty sad life to care about what colour a jersey is ..anotherworldofpain wrote:beshocked wrote:anotherworldofpain what makes you think you Kiwis have dibs on the colour black?

Presumably those obsessed to the extent of being responsible for changing the century old Irish jersey must lead severely depressed lives?

You actually thought that we were changing the colour of the irish home jersey. Don't worrie its still green.anotherworldofpain wrote:So why are they wearing it at home?
Im not actually sure why we are wearing it for this game, i persume its because the boks wear green too, so they didn't want the colours to clash.

Re: New Ireland Alternate Jersey
I'm waiting for you to explain how it's an "away" or "alternate" strip, if they're wearing it at home.
In the event of a clash it's usual for the away team to change, not the home team.

As i said I dont know why we are wearing it at home. Maybe they want to advertise the jersey to try sell it because we have the same home jersey as last year.
If we changed the colour of our home jersey, there would up roar in the country.

Have we hit upon his true identity?
- Spoiler:
On the kit... I don't really like it, I would much rather we play in white as per usual. I don't know why New Zealand are being mentioned, it looks completely different. This is PROBABLY the only time we will ever wear this kit.
White? White! That's our colour!

Re: New Ireland Alternate Jersey
Frankly it's what we've come to expect from the NH unions during the AIs.
There's always some ridiculous spectacle drummed up, either one team or another wearing Black, the usual assault on the Haka, some debacle over pre-match protocol or some accusation about poaching or thuggery or cheating.
It's just tired and shows a lack of respect and hospitality. Teams who are guests during the Spring tours in the SH are rarely subjected to such uncomfortable spectacles.
It's just a bit sad, immature and disappointing to be honest.

Re: New Ireland Alternate Jersey
Wtf are you talking about? Its the colour of an alternate jersey, who gives a f***. The ABs aren't the only ones allowed to wear black, just like Ireland aren't the only ones to wear green.anotherworldofpain wrote:Frankly it's what we've come to expect from the NH unions during the AIs.

If the ABs brought out a green alternate jersey nobody would care.

Re: New Ireland Alternate Jersey
I like this. I have no emotional connection to the white away jersey. I don't mind the change at all. I hope it doesn't offend New Zealanders. (Does it?) I also hope it doesn't bring back bad memories when they look at each other running around in black. Apart from that it's all good.

It's the tradition in test rugby the home side changes jerseys in the event of a clash.

Re: New Ireland Alternate Jersey
Well, it is sort of our Home jersey.
The tradition in rugby has always (AFAIK) that the home team are the ones to change if there is a clash of colours in a match.
The first International at the New Stadium was against SA too and they very kindly offered to let us wear green since it was the opening of our new home ground.
This is such an established tradition that I am kind of shocked that so many folks seem unaware of it's existence. That is why the "Alternative" shirt in rugby is pro[perly known as the "change" shirt rather than the away jersey.
