Week 13 discussion thread
We open in Atlanta, where the Falcons can clinch the NFC South this week providing they win and Tampa falls to Denver. Standing in their way is their most hated rivals and the team that handed them their only loss this season, the New Orleans Saints, who likely need to win out to make the postseason.

Atlanta having there starting 2 CB's out is the only thing which is keeping me from being certain they will win, although I still fancy them in a close one

Malcolm Jenkins should have picked Ryan off on the first play of the game.
Then the Saints get gashed by Michael Turner cos they cant tackle

Good rushing drive. Could be a high scoring game and if that happens I don't fancy the Falcons.

Brees picked off. Under throws it to Colston.
However Asante Samuel looks done for Atlanta, so I fancy Saints to score a few, but there D has to step up

Brees's TD streak comes to an end at 54. Picked off 5 times in the game, not good and the Saints are as good as done for this year.
I think Brady has like 40 odd games with a TD so he has a shot at breaking Brees's record

That TD record was garbage since he extended it as time expired vs the Rams down 20.

Re: Week 13 discussion thread
I don't think the Vikings are good enough to be competitive down the stretch with their schedule so they're out.
Bucs have a tough one this week at Denver, but the next 3 after that are all winnable. Atlanta week 17 could be playing for nothing.
Seattle has a few games they should win after this, including Lynch returning to Buffalo, but without their CBs, if teams shut down Lynch Wilson is going to struggle to win games.
Redskins are on the charge, but they'll have to get past the Giants and Ravens first. After that the schedule is easy, but again 9-7 and 8-8 might not be enough.

As for the Cowboys, I don't see it. That team just isn't particularly good, and doesn't have it in them to win 5 straight.

Seattle and Vikings simply aren't playoff calibre. I think the redskins and Bucs could pose some problems if they can get their defenses playing even just average

In what way are the Seahawks playoff calibre? Good but not great defense, can't get off field on third down, cornerbacks in trouble. A rookie qb that will be eaten alive by good D's (see, 49ers, San Francisco TNF) good team and maybe at that level in a few years

According to "league sources" Roethlisberger will not be playing against the Ravens, I fear this is going to be a one-sided affair and make it look like a poor choice for being shown on Sky.

TNF receivers screwed Russell over , since week 5he has te 2nd highest QBR only behind Brady, Wilson if a great QB , hawks DEFENSE is legit , hawks are play-off calibre we beat pats, and packers both play off teams , hawks are legit but Optimus and browner out could hurt us but were above .500 for a reason

yes, they are above .500 for a reason...... bad refs. I could use Alex Smith stats and make him sound better than Brady, but everyone would still know it doesn't hold true. Tannehill beat Wilson and that D so I wouldn't be too scared of them.

1st it was the correct call
If you watched the game anyone could see that Wilson far outplayed tannehill and the DEFENSE choked.
Wilson has outperformed tannehill weeded and even luck this season

Re: Week 13 discussion thread
Don't worry I knew that, was just a joke. Lets be honest Wilson is in a pretty different situation to Weeden, which IMO means they shouldn't be compared (though no doubt they will be) Wilson has a pretty limited playbook majority of which are hand offs to Lynch, has a fairly established WR group who were all there last year so know their routes, compared to Weeden who has 3 rookie WR's one of whom didn't play much college football and 1 WR who has only had a year in the system, a rookie RB no reliable FB rookie O-linemen and an incompetent HC calling the offensive plays.cherriesfan wrote:Derbyblue wrote:Never heard of that quarterback must have been a right steal who does he play for?cherriesfan wrote:niner wrote:yes, they are above .500 for a reason...... bad refs. Re: Week 13 discussion thread
Do you experts really think there have been Rookie QB's that have been better than Luck this year?
I couldn't possibly claim to be an expert (I watch Sunday nights on Sky and not much else) but everything I see he looks truly fantastic.
It might be that he has a good OL or brilliant WR but given that the hype would put him under extra pressure I have to put myself down as a big fan and, reckon the Colts are now my second favourite team.

I dunno whether I would say Luck or RG3 has had the better year but I think Luck looks the better prospect for the future.
RG3 is just plain balling this year, close between him, Luck and Martin for Offensive Rookie of the Year

Re: Week 13 discussion thread
Luck is going to be a special player no doubt. As for best rookie its interesting. Certainly the offense hes in and running will probably translate better going forward, whereas I think the Shanahans will have to tweak the system and give RG3 more rope next season.
Those 2 far ahead of the other rookie QBs this season.

Lucks been good but he would in an offence that's airs it out all the time RG3 has been by far the best rookie QB

Lions have a few reason to be miffed about the officiating. Texans seem to have the best attribute of a contender though, luck.

Thing is about RG3 I don't think he is like anything we've ever seen before. The kid can stand in the pocket and throw bombs like the best of them. I don't agree with them using him on running plays, let him scramble to escape pressure, but the kid can throw really really well

Re: Week 13 discussion thread
We'll see, but rewind 12 months and we heard the same rhetoric about a certain rookie redefining the QB position. We'll see if he can be a consistent passer.
Also yeah, in todays NFL, hes really going to have to watch out at his size when he runs or hes going to get knicked up quit a bit.

Re: Week 13 discussion thread
I always want my QB to be a passer first and and runner second. Those that wait that split second longer to throw rather than using their running tend to be the superstars.
RG3's been good as a rookie but I'm pretty sure Randall Cunningham was doing it all years ago.

DeMarcus Dobbs won't be playing for 49ers this weekend after being arrested "following a single-car accident."
It's definitely between Luck and RGIII, though I think RGIII is being helped out massively by his Alfred Morris, all his TD passes against Cowboys was a play action pass which obviously don't work without the dangerous RB.

Re: Week 13 discussion thread
Given the situations they find themselves in if you had to pick the best rookie QB it would most certainly be Andrew Luck. He has an aging Reggie Wayne, no running backs and a porous (that's being kind) defence. RG3 at least has Alfred Morris and a few other dependable backs, their defence is poor enough as well but RG3 has some capable receivers with him.
I don't like comparing them but if I had to say one was better it would be Luck, the guy is running a full pro offense as a rookie.
