The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
No win in three has seen the Cobblers drop from 9th to 13th but have only dropped to 4 points off 7th after being 2 points back at the start of this run.
Back to back games against teams below, this Saturday at home to Aldershot and then away to AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day, before going to leaders Gillingham on the 29th and opening 2013 at home to Dagenham & Redbridge who are currently ahead of Northampton by one point in 12th. It'll be a tough holiday period but hoping 2013 starts with the team in good form. It's gonna be tough but getting through this period and staying in touch is vital as the fixtures get easier, on paper, as the season comes to an end.

Lovely 2-0 win today with goals from Robinson and Platt. Up to 9th, one point off the playoffs and puts pressure on everyone else because nobody in the top half played today. AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day to hopefully jump into the top seven.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
See Robinson scored for you lot today. Brighton born lad. I thought he was on loan at Luton though?

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Back to back postponed games away at Wimbledon and Gillingham. Part of me can't help but wonder if the two sides "let" the weather make the pitch unplayable rather than try to prevent too much damage or work to get it playable. Both AFC and the Gills are on bad runs and Northampton could of got at the least 4 points from the two games. A couple of weeks ago there was an overnight downpour in Northampton and the Sixfields groundstaff got the pitch in playable condition by the 12:30 pitch inspection.
Will finally be back in action at Sixfields vs Dagenham on NYD.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Great win today and with other teams losing and one or two games in hand over everyone else a win against Fleetwood on Saturday will be huge.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Great 3-1 win over Fleetwood. They must have only brought 50-60 fans and despite being quiet they had nothing to cheer about until the 92nd minute.
Great performances from Robinson, Carlisle, Hackett and Tozer. Bayo didn't have such a good game but did take a couple of big knocks going up for aerial battles.
Hard to believe that same team beat Port Vale at Vale Park on New Years Day.

Getting all three points is vital today. Bradford, Fleetwood and Cheltenham have winnable home games but on the plus side Southend and Exeter will takes points off each other.
This is a huge month for the Cobblers, the hardest month of the season and winning as many games as possible is a must. Three wins on the bounce must be made into five, today at Chesterfield and next week home to Burton.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Burton came to try and force a point and time waste in the -3 temperature but the Cobblers had other ideas. Fantastic and vital three points well earned on a day when everyone else in the top half had postponements. Cobblers up to 6th!!!!
I'll get a nosebleed if we go any higher!!!

Akinfenwa is just too sick. Doin' a good job but away form got to pick up if there realistically going to challenge that playoff.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Yes. Away form is awful but this is the most difficult month on paper. Gotta go to Aldershot, Gillingham and Rotherham before the next home game against Rochdale.

Fantastic result tonight. 2-1 win on a snow covered pitch. 3rd in the league!!!

Just to show how great Aidy's impact has been since he took over in November 2011 this is the table after the same amount of games played last season.

Cheltenham drew last night, Rotherham lost today, and if Exeter lose on Monday night we'll stay 3rd and have a chance to go 3 points clear of 4th with a win at Gillingham on Tuesday.

Huge huge huge game this weekend. Exeter away. Draw would be good for me.

Exeter are a better team away from home, draw should be achievable at the least.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Northampton are absolute cack away though. So it should be interesting.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Cheltenham and Rotherham both winning is bad for the Cobblers. Drop to 7th but still 7 points clear of Southend.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Very winnable game tomorrow at home to Accrington. I'll be there to cheer on the claret and white. #ShoeArmy

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Burton and Cheltenham & Fleetwood and Exeter will take points off each other tomorrow which will be helpful should Northampton win. Best outcome is going 4th and the worst will be losing whilst everyone above bar Exeter plus Southend win meaning Southend and Fleetwood will both be 4 points behind with a game in hand.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
2-0 win today but if Accrington played well it could've been 2-2 or worse. Good day results wise. Up to 4th on goal difference with a game in hand on Cheltenham in 5th.
If this team does not make the playoffs it'll be a mystery.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Are you watching Football League Show cherries? Watch Northampton the game was dull but had some funny moments. Francis Jeffers missed an open goal, O'Donovan scored the 2nd after blocking the goalie's clearance and then the ref gave a free kick when an Accrington player did it to Nicholls in the 2nd half, and at full time Ishmel Demontagnac got in a fight with Nicky Hunt. Aidy Boothroyd had to come on and push him down the tunnel with some stewards.
Can't believe Coventry released Roy O'Donovan. He was awesome today.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Strange night in League Two tonight. Gillingham and Port Vale drop points and Burton break up the top 2 with a come from behind win at Aldershot. Exeter, Rotherham and Southend also drop points as Northampton relied on an 89th minute equaliser from captain Kelvin Langmead.
It's getting awfully tight at the top right now. Gonna be an epic finish to the season. Hopefully ending with the Cobblers in League One.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Yeah Burton have a gone on a great run. We narrowly beat then at Sixfields in Jan. Cobblers have won 8 straight home games and have the 2nd best gone record to Burton. Problem is we have the worst away record in the top 12 never mind the top 7!!!
Burton only team in top 7 to win last night. Been Vale and Gills up top since October so it's nice to see someone else break them up and a real possibility for automatic promotion for us now. Wycombe away up next and then two home games we should get 6 points from Oxford next Saturday and Torquay on Good Friday. Winning all three will be crucial for our automatic promotion hopes because the next two after are Cheltenham and Bradford away. Finish up with York at home, Vale away (only game against a team above us atm) and then Barnet at home.
Really starting to believe I'll be watching League One football next season.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
I agree with the rationale behind your confidence of us beating Oxford on Saturday but as my best mate supports them (and they beat us earlier in the season) I don't share the sentiment. That said, I do think we can turn over Torquay York and Barnet. Just one away result from the 4 will see us in the play offs. A win at Oxford and you've got to start looking at the automatics.
Great results tonight with Southend and Fleetwood slipping up. I'm sticking a bet on an Oxford win on Saturday though to ease the pain should it happen!!

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
I'm really looking forward to the Oxford game. Apparently they're bringing 1200 up. Also looking forward to Good Friday, should be able to get to Sixfields for Torquay. Winnable games are Oxford, Torquay, Wycombe, York and Barnet. Possibly get a win or at least a point at Bradford, they'll have nothing to play for by the time that game comes.
Also Rotherham and Exeter will take points off each other this weekend.

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Only tickets for the West Stand will be available on sale at the portkabin outside the ground tomorrow. Tickets for the North and East stands will be on sale from the box office and numbers are short. Over 6000 tickets have been sold already. By kick off it could be close to a sellout by under 100 tomorrow. Oxford are expected to bring about 1200. It's gonna be great.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
1-0 very scrappy, extremely hard fought victory today. With Cheltenham being held to a draw at Barnet the Cobblers occupy 4th on goal difference with a game in hand.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Get in!! Away games are key as to whether automatics can be achieved. Think we ended Oxford's season today!

Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Did you go to the game? It was so cold it got to one point where I didn't want to attempt to stand up and clap when we made a sub. I was frozen to my seat. I was in the upper tier of the West Stand near the guys that sing all game. Great banter with the Oxford fans. Great derby day atmosphere. Total attendance of 6151 (including 1250 Oxford fans), so judging from the clubs comments on ticket sales maybe 300-700 didn't show up because according to them "well in excess of 6000" tickets were sold. I wouldn't call 151 well in excess.
Hopefully Langmead's injury is only a minor one. Tozer was poor today, too indecisive in crucial areas and luckily the others covered his mistakes. Ishmel was brilliant I think. Best I've seen him play. His link up play with Widdowson was great but once again he let himself lose his temper towards the end with a stupid challenge on their RB just because he slightly clipped his ankles at the other end and the ref didn't give it. A few of their players put in some dirty challenges too through frustration.

So after today here is how things shape up in League Two.
I'd like to also point out that when I started this thread Northampton were 13th and droppped to 14th after the Dagenham game was postponed at Christmas. Shows the kind of run this side has put together since the turn of the year.

I think you will 100% get the play offs. But automatic promotion is easily achievable, one thing is for sure Northampton have come a good way since Aidy took charge.

It all hinges on the away form. Got to go to Cheltenham, Wycombe, Bradford & Port Vale.
The home games are practically gimmes. Torquay, York and Barnet.
I think we can get automatic promotion with 4 points minimum from the road games.
Good luck to your lot too. I hope you crash the playoffs and who knows, possibly do a Blackpool. Got the Chelsea connection with Gus and Bridcutt.

Kelvin Langmead out after knee surgery but is expected back for the end of the season and playoffs. Cobblers sign Nathan Cameron on loan from Coventry until end of season.
Re: The Northampton Town 2012-13 thread
Mr Roy O'Donovan take a bow. Crucial goal last night puts Cobbs 3rd three point clear of 5th place Cheltenham, Monday's opponents, with a game in hand.
I think a win down their and maybe at least a point at Bradford next week, or vice versa, and talk of automatic promotion can be taken seriously.

Burton lost to Chesterfield. Cobblers have sole possession of 3rd.
