Re: Champions League Draw for Last 16
isn't this the same ref who took charge of the second leg of the Chelsea Barcelona tie last year? if so any United fans have my deepest sympathies. I thought it was a high foot and he has caught him, it could just about be a yellow card, but red?!?! no flippin way.
And there goes the tie, it's a shame that a ref can so crave the spotlight that he influences what was set up to be a great CL tie...

^ this everyone going on about Nani , Rafael should of been off and a penalty 5 mins after that why i have no sympathy for united despite Nani never being a red at all just incompetent performance from the ref all round.

If Real Madrid win tonight isn't that their 3rd consecutive champions league knock out win against Man U. Bit of luck tonight but also confirms who is the bigger club.

Also, things do seem to have changed from the years England had 3 of the semi finalists. Did that happen twice?

Maybe you're right, if you're talking about Asian and African fans and merchandising and so on. That's not what I was really thinking about though. I was thinking about number of European cups and head to head.

Re: Champions League Draw for Last 16
of course Chelsea held out at the Nou Camp for an hour with 10 men
doesn't change the fact the tie has been badly affected by a fairly ridiculous decision though, shame.

they promptly get two more great chances in the space of 30 seconds, dreadful miss by Rooney. Too wasteful

I'm just disappointed that a huge game has been decided by completely incompetant refereeing again.
It's beyond the joke how bad they are.

Blatant play acting. If I was the ref I'd add double the time. Let's see how many minutes come up. If it's 3 it's a victory for time wasting...oh 5, fair enough then.

My final verdict would be that both sides had lucky breaks but Real Madrid had the key one in their favour. Debatable, but I think Man U were unlucky here.

a ruined game..
thats the way it is though. it wasnt reals fault. well played to them - they took advantage - and thats what they had to do..
gutted for united though..
no teams into the next round for the pl..
random!!
lets hope its not the start of a decline

think real knew theyd been handed the win there with that Tinkywinky modric the only one really celebrating. ferdinand wanted to slit the refs neck there, post match interviews will be entertaining

Oh come on. Yes the ref was crap. He also let Rafael handball a shot on the line at 1-0 thats a goal otherwise.

Re: Champions League Draw for Last 16
My thoughts:
Utd were better than Madrid all game, aside from those 10 minutes where they scored twice in two/three minutes. Vidic + Ferdinand were excellent and Giggs was the best player on the park. But well done to Madrid, they did well enough.
As for Nani, he got what he deserved for a stupid, unnecessary boot and I never want to see him again.

Re: Champions League Draw for Last 16
By the way, having a go at the ref, in some respects, is not the right, or at least not the constructive attitude. Instead of saying "the referee's a *****" (the response of a fool) we should be saying "Why do we pay refs a pittance compared to the players, treat them with **** all respect, blame them when it goes wrong, minimal credit when it goes right, ...and then act surprised when the talent goes elsewhere?" It's inevitable, the problem is in the culture of the game and the lack of respect for authority.

Re: Champions League Draw for Last 16
I'm not going to debate whether it was a red or not, all I can say is if you do something that stupid as to give the ref a reason to think about a red then you get what you deserve. Funnily enough, any other player and I'd be fuming but if it gets rid of Nani I don't care.

Ok, this is more embarrassing than United postmatch. Rafael gets away with a stonewall penalty that has a strong case for a red. No mention of this surprisingly.

Re: Champions League Draw for Last 16
Referees need more respect and higher pay to attract ex players and other talent into the positions. I mean, as armchair fans we can make better judgements than the ref, something is not right.
