NFL Week 16 Discussion Thread
First topic message reminder :
So Megatron broke Jerry Rice's all time receiving yards record last night, can AP stay on course to break Eric Dickerson's rushing record?
Such a crucial week around the league, so enjoy before the Christmas festivities begin!

Ravens pick up a 3rd and v.long with a 37 yard gain. This Giants D is bad without pressure.

Complete reverse of last week for San Fran. Can they pull off a Pats-esque comeback?

Re: NFL Week 16 Discussion Thread
Will have to put that loss behind us quick, which will hopefully happen because have never lost two in a row under Harbaugh. Injuries more worrying to me than the beatdown, just hope Davis, Manningham and Smith are back for the playoffs. I know the 49ers didn't need this game but I'd still expect more intensity. It was an electric atmosphere and they were doomed from the start. When I saw the offense go three and out, and their offense click and two PI's and holds on Smith missed in key situations, youn just knew it was gone. Very happy that nobody will have to play them at their place in the playoffs. Feel confident against them anywhere else but their own stadium and I'm sure every other NFL team feels the same. They are just a different beast at home, their o-line plays better, qb play improves, D is faster and every possible slce of luck and poor calls go their way. Justin Smith is needed so much

Agreed Niner the miss of Justin Smith was quite frankly scary on that defence. I hope for your sake he is back for the playoffs

Always graceful in victory Cherries. #
I got my prediction for this game horrendously wrong. Credit to the Seahakws they were superb, that Niners defence got no pressure, Aldon Smith is nothing without Justin.
Seahakws got one bull call on that Chancellor hit on Vernon Davis but one or two slices of luck went their way. I really wanted the Bucs to take Wilson to push Freeman on last year, shame they didn't.
Bad night for the Bucs, but strangely I would probably only blame one of those INTs on Freeman. First Mike Williams slips, easy for Jenkins, a slice of bad luck hard to blame the QB. 2nd, Awful throw into triple coverage, moronic. 3rd, Mike Williams could have done a better job not a great throw, but he didn't seem to eager to go for it. Final was a tipped pass, a great play by the defence, some blame attributed to Freeman

Re: NFL Week 16 Discussion Thread
Freeman does seem to have been in a bit of slump recently Thomond, a bit like Ponder went through after his start to the season. I hope he pulls through a stronger QB for it
As for the Pats yesterday they just didn't really seem up for it. The offence wasn't really clicking as well, and the defence did hold up in the second half a lot better but we need to stay healthy there. Hopefully Talib stays healthy with Dennard as well cos I can't be having Arrington and McCourty starting CB in the playoffs!
And we miss Gronk too. But no need to rush these guys back

Re: NFL Week 16 Discussion Thread
It's not all his fault, but he is making some ridiculous decisions alright. Low on confidence, no faith in his OL, a shoite defence to put it mildly and not able to run the ball (OL/ have to give it up).
Added to the fact that Freeman has problems with the short throws and we don't have any great receiver over the middle. Tavon Austin seems to be a guy people like, wouldn't want Welker, the lazy view is that he is a product of the system and not having done enough work I'm going to take that as gospel.

Re: NFL Week 16 Discussion Thread
Was Talib taking on Blackmon? He is a bit hit and miss for me, in the right scheme he can be a very solid cornerback. The Bucs play a lot of man, and man press coverage and he got burned a fair bit. Also explains their current woes.
A very solid zone corner who can be relatively reliable in man to man.

Re: NFL Week 16 Discussion Thread
Talib was in and out of the game Thomond he has had a hip injury bothering him so wasn't really in for any sustained period I dont think.
Thing with him and Dennard is that they do get burned but in our system that doesn't really matter with the whole "bend not break" thing and they do make plays.
Also what them two playing well at CB has allowed us to do is move McCourty to safety where he is a much much better player and this has weirdly given us some sort of secondary!!

Re: NFL Week 16 Discussion Thread
I would have thought Dennard was a bit too slow to play corner, didn't he run a relatively slow combine time?
The Pats defence just have to be okay, and that's what they are, yards don't matter a jot if you can create turnovers and that's what the Pats do, they don't concede many points.

Well we can all stick a collective fork in the Giants season. It was good until November started.

I dunno what his combine time was but he fell to the 7th round when he was meant to be a mid round pick due some issues. To be fair he hasn't looked too bad so far for a rookie!
I just hope come the playoffs we can get hot on offence because I think if we can there isn't a D in the league that can deal with us. But I doubt we'll go to the Super Bowl, although I'd fancy us to beat Denver in Denver, I don't think we'd beat Houston in Houston

9-7 will be good enough if Chicago, Dallas and Minnesota all lose.

Dennard fell to the 7th because he punched a cop
