Six Nations 2013 Build Up Thread
First topic message reminder :
We are less than 30 days from the BIG one. This years RBS Six Nations 2013 is one of the most anticipated in Years. With the decline of GS champs(Wales) in the AI's, the French described as "the best team in the northern hemisphere", England beating the World Champions and Ireland ripping Fiji and the Puma's a new backside so convincingly. What will these ferocious battles hold? How will this dangerous concoction unfold? Discuss.

February 3: Italy v France, 3pm
February 9: Scotland v Italy, 2.30pm and France v Wales, 5pm

Remember all the times you have been banned for stalking me and trolling my posts, and the other many many times that mods have told you to STOP doing it...!
HOW ABOUT YOU BLOODY LISTEN FOR A CHANGE AND CLEAR OFF...!!!
Absolutely sick of your pathetic posts constantly following mine. You are an absolute moron. Next time you're banned stay away...!
It's already starting to kick off and it's not even February!
No Cyril has been trolling me for about five years, old 606 now this one. He has been banned repeatedly for it too. Safeasmilk, Sugarnspikes, tropical hotdog, Avalon and now back to Cyril.
The mods let previously banned posters have a chance to show they have changed their ways.
Unfortunately for me, he has little interest in doing anything but obsessively following my posts and trolling them...!
I am sick to death of it.

It's also inaccurate. Bogland can only be used to describe Ireland at anytime during nationalistic squabbles. Ireland has worked hard to keep its boggers fed and wathered, it maintains vast acres of the stuff in the middle of the country just so that it can maintain its tradition as the Bogland of Europe. Attempts to use this description by another country about any other country except Ireland will be fiercely resisted by all true Irish boggers.

Aye Gilroy is a talent. With Fitzgerald, Earl, Trimble all in good form Ireland have a hell of a strike force.

The word bogland seems to have caused a massive uproar.... Anyway i musnt get to judgemental. I have been known to Overreact.,..
But what really tells me this place is turning into a mental asylum is this list with england coming 4th in the 2013 6n's. This place has truely lost the plot

A bit like Scotland though in that we may lack the centres to unleash them. Luke Marshall looked likely to be our new man this season but injury hit that.
Re: Six Nations 2013 Build Up Thread
Folks, this thread has already flagged up numerous reports for the Mods to have to deal with. Can I ask that everyone tries to not resort to any petty squabbling or Wumming. The 6N is usually the busiest time of the year for the Mod team and this continues the thread will be locked and temporary bans handed out.
There is some sensible debate going on here - let's not ruin it for people that actually want to talk about rugby eh?

Back to the rugby - I can't see past anything but a French championship, but don't think they will get a grand slam.
As for Scotland - who knows. We have 3 home games on the trot so if we don't get humped by England and beat Italy then we stand a chance against Ireland and Wales.
Prediction:
1 France
2 England
3 Ireland
4 Wales
5 Scotland
6 Italy

Re: Six Nations 2013 Build Up Thread
Scotland are an unknown quantity. England will be strong favourites for the Calcutta Cup match, but Wales, at a low ebb and with a new manager in charge, went to Twickenham in 2008 and came away with the spoils. I'm not saying it'll happen again, but you never know.

honestly going for my picks- no wums. Yeah its diffrerent. But i think france are good but abit overrated at the mo. I think england are just solid.. I can see big improvments from ireland and scotland. Wales- well wtf has happened to them. How can they turn this losing streak around!! If ireland beat em first up.....

2008 was a bit freaky with the unusual sequence of England injuries during the Wales game, turned it rouns in the 2nd half. . Credit to Wales btw, for taking their chance.

Re: Six Nations 2013 Build Up Thread
Im only joking Mystiorakey. I think England will win it too.
Don't see them winning in both Cardiff and Dublin though.
I agree France are over rated. They are 1 billion per cent reliant on Michalak. He is too flaky a player to be reliant on. A good team but won't win 5 games in a row. Will certainly lose in Twickenham I reckon.
I think Ireland will surprise mainly because we have Wales up first and as you say they are vulnerable. If we win that I think we can turn in a few decent displays. I think we'll beat England.

Re: Six Nations 2013 Build Up Thread
My first predo was that england will lose one game in wales or ireland. However its getting close and i am getting more confident..
I think Ireland are a dark horse and have some confidence comeing back into the team.
Wales are a very good side but you cant just click a switch and start winning game after game again.. It will happen but when is the question. I think scotland have reached that point where they will just go out in a bulldog fashion and play there hearts out with no expectations and could get a decent sclap..

Couldnt agree less re France. Id say if anything its Michelak thats over rated. I think Trinh Duc is a better player anyway. Granted his line kicking isnt great but he is probably the best running OH in the world after Carter. Please dont say Cooper is because I have rarely seen it at Intermational level.

Re: Six Nations 2013 Build Up Thread
For me Scotland's cause will be helped greatly if:
Ross Rennie gets fit and has a couple of games before playing England
Ross Ford reminds himself how to throw straight, particularly in the opposition 22
Players are selected based on form, and in their best positions. No picking Kelly Brown at openside and no picking Max Evans full stop!
Sean Maitland lives up to be everything we want to him to be. A back 3 of Visser, Maitland and Hogg could potentially be the best in the championship
Tim Visser learns how to tackle and stops being a big jessie in defence - you're 6ft 4 and 17 stones for God's sake, should be smashing folk!
We cut out the mistake that have been killing us recently.
Do that I I think we will definitely get 2 wins, and stand a good chance of getting 3. Don't do all this and it is wooden spoon time again!

How can Visser contribute to potentially the best back 3 in the tournament and be a non tackling jessie?

As I said Jimpy - if all of those things happen we might do well! If he carries on not tackling then the potentially best back 3 in the 6N will not realise it's potential!
I'm not saying they are the best back 3, I'm not saying they will become the best back 3, I am saying the potential is there.

Re: Six Nations 2013 Build Up Thread
Whilst there are obvious weakness to Visser's game, let's not ignore his strengths. He his exceptionally fast and a great finisher. He's scored bags of tries this season (and the two seasons prior to that) and as well as finishing opportunities, he creates quite a bit for himself as well.
For years we've had "functional" wingers in a Scotland jersey. Let's celebrate the fact that we now have two genuinely quick attacking wingers and a spark at fullback who for once will make sides think twice about kicking the ball to us.
I agree with RDW, for the first time in a while we have a genuinely top class trio of individuals in the back three. Let's hope that Johnson can get the best from them.

I hope Visser has a great six nations. He is a talented player who is very good at scoring tries regularly.
Personally I think he should play for his native Holland.
He has weak areas but so do all the top class wingers in contention for the lions.

I cant see Wales being too much of a threat this year as they have been mauled by injuries.
For me, its between France and England but i cant see a GS. Ireland will spoil that by probably beating both England and France but lose to Scotland and Italy.

However in the 90's they repeatedly beat us. I'd say that one of the reasons they were let in to the tournament is because they were considered better than Ireland, who were already in it.

For me, its between France and England but i cant see a GS. Ireland will spoil that by probably beating both England and France but lose to Scotland and Italy.
And Wales...!

A duel between les Blues and Englands Rose..
England are buzzing and confident.. they will probally dish out a couple of record victories come soon.
I hope someone puts up a predictor this year, it will be mine.
No disagreeing that England are definitely a form team as are France and those two are the bookies and many of us pundits favourites to win but unless England do thrash the rest of us home nations by a considerable margin that All Black victory is going to look a little shallow.
Its the Six Nations though and form can often go out the window faster than over confidence is championed, we should all know that before counting our chickens just yet mate...
Regardless of how England do in the 6 nations it will mean nothing about the All Black victory.

In 2004 Wales ran the All Blacks close. In 2005 they won an unexpected GS. It's just a question of using momentum without becoming complacent. It's England's year I feel.

You need more than one match to call it momentum...until then its still a one off. So they have to 'get' it first to be able to use it. And frankly the reaction from the next side they face will be hell bent on denying it even starting.

Two things.
Everybody likes to get one over on England, so they are used to that.
Secondly, the opposition (except for France on occasion) are nowhere near as good as the All Blacks.
Therefore I get your point, it's a one off, but I think that's more relevant to the next England v All Blacks game.

well it affects the preparation, it affects the confidence, it affects everything in regards too the build up and the selection.
problem is as we all know that it can affect the team in a positive or a negative way..
however as glas points out.. the teams want to beat england anyway- i can not see how they will be more up for beating us due to us beating NZ before

Lancaster will keep them grounded, but has he got the guts to tell them to chuck it about a bit in the tight ones?

Surely the only team England have to fear in the 6ns is Wales. Why you say?
Because on their day Wales can beat any one.
