First topic message reminder :

Sportsground in Galway Friday night.

Anyone else going?

Went to the last one 2 years ago in Ravenhill and had great crack. Fock all people there though. Probably the same this time or worse.

Cheap night out though. Hour and a half drive from Dublin. Cheap B&B.

Must be me eyes then lads!

Mind you, it would have been more enjoyable to spend those 40mins having someone stick needles in my eyes than try to figure out what was the point of that second half.

Are Fitzpatricks continual fitness problems down to unlucky injuries or is it a case of him not putting in the work?

Great result for a thrown-together Saxons side.

Fitzpatrick is having a nightmare with Injuries he just seems to keep getting them every time he is back, I suspect he could have played a lot longer than he did today though

Irish backs much more experienced and tight enough up front but the Wolfhounds bench the better of the two.

Actually all the ties were about right, as were the backs. The forwards were the direct opposite!

Reading the match reports it sounds like the English backs did ok. The strength in depth in English rugby is good and getting better.

Which is why it's a shame that there's only two games for them to play in the 6N's A tournament. Don't all the other Unions have A teams save Wales as well? It would surely be far more beneficial for the guys to play 3 or 4 matches then just the two.

Likewise the summer tour yes it's great that a select dozen or so get to go with the EPS and play midweek games (it is a 42 man squad that's taken right?) but still that leaves a whole host kicking their heels who could be better off playing a bit in the old Churchill cup or something similar.

Yappy,
I agree its a shame each of the 6 Nations do not have an 'A' side. That would really help the growth and improvement of Rugby in the NH. The 'A' side matches could be played the day before the main teams in smaller stadia, or even the first match of a 6 Nations double-header. Would be a real investment in the future across the board. And, handled right, might break even financially, meaning no undue monetary burden (and no excuse not to do it).

lostinwales,
Churchill Cup was a great concept. In the last finals, they held it here in northern New jersey and the kids in my club were the ball runners and had a fantastic experience. My sons got a signed jersey from the French 'A' team and a couple of Rugby balls signed by the Saxons.

But from a development standpoint, it was great for the US and Canadian teams. I think it helped their squads, and gave quaity matc time for the participating 'A' sides.

Well from the US and Canada's point of view they've replaced it with the PNC. From the European nations point of view they've gone for bigger tours (three games and mid-week). Don't think there's been any improvement for the odd invited team like Russia and Georgia but Georgia in particular didn't/couldn't send their best team.

It's very hard to play rugby in those conditions and even harder to watch. This is the main reason why I believe the 6 Nations should be played at the end of the NH season in early summer.

There was only a bit of wind and I'm told that can happen in Galway at any time of year!

Galway was actually lovely weather. Nearly got blown off the road on the way across. Torrential rain made overtaking trucks a major scare. But as soon as we got to Galway it cleared up. There were even people sitting outside the pub at midnight. Some of them without coats....Mad Ba$tards.
