Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
First topic message reminder :
Australian Open 2013:
Information: The Australian Open is a major tennis tournament held annually over the last fortnight of January in Melbourne, Australia. First held in 1905, the tournament is chronologically the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events of the year – the other three being the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. It features men's and women's singles; men's, women's, and mixed doubles and junior's championships; as well as wheelchair, legends and exhibition events. Since 1988 the tournament has been played on hard courts at Melbourne Park.
The Australian Open typically has very high attendance, second only to the US Open. It was also the first Grand Slam tournament to feature indoor play during wet weather or extreme heat with its two primary courts, Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena, equipped with retractable roofs.

loose game from Murray, missing a few forehands, needs to keep his focus.

Federer digs deep, Murray just wide with a BH pass and Federer holds. BP conversion a concern for Murray.

From the BBC live text "Federer's finesse suddenly looks a bit old-hat, it's all about the rippling physicality of Murray."

Who said he hadn't anyway?
Even before today he won the first set against him at Wimbledon last year.

Murray forces deuce, but heavy serving from Federer, who's barely missed a first serve in this set so far, sees him come through.

just heard an interesting stat, Federer is winning 65 percent of his first serves and 60 percent of his 2nd, bizarre

How I can see this developing. Murray is becoming so predictable now with where he's hitting the ball and it's only matter of time until Federer levels this match and probably Murray will lose confidence.

No way it's only matter of time before Federer cracks. Easy victory for Murray I fear.

Fed's main chance is to scrape through this set holding serve and win the tie-break. If not, I can't see him coming back from 2-0 down. Fed is the best tie-brek player ever, so that is the hope for him.

These balls are slower than the ones used for clay, facking disgrace these ATP cronies think we want to watch boring pushfests.

Federers lack of aces in his last 2 matches concerns me, he used to be rarely out aced

Re: Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
Murray had a chance there, Federer missed some first serves but Murray with a couple of loose returns let him off the hook somewhat. Both players holding pretty comfortably in this set so far, 4-3 to Federer.

Re: Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
Fed should give up and make it easy for Andy in 3 sets, so Andy can wipe the floor with Djoko on Sunday.
With all my love for Fed, he has been reduced to wining Masters in 3 sets probably, he can not handle any more 3-4h of GS matches.
Hopefully he quit tennis this year as watching him like this is painful.

Yeah his brains gone into a dark corner after that Tsonga display. I genuinely think it must be his shoulder or back causing it.CAS wrote:Federers lack of aces in his last 2 matches concerns me, he used to be rarely out aced

Murray's just serving too well. Fed not getting a sniff.

Federer with a great service game of his own, once again missing no first serves and Murray barely has a sniff, 5-4.

This match has not lived up to expectations. Both guys are "saving" themselves for the final it seems.

Fair enough Murray does return a lot of serves back at Federer but they don't exactly put him off balance. Guaranteed a tiebreak now.

Re: Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
Murray got away with it in that service game, gets away with a defensive lob which lands plumb on the line, and with Federer out of position is able to steer a BH winner down the line. Federer with a slightly shanked volley of his own there, but holds to love for 6-5. Pressure back on Murray.

Whole match hangs on this tie break for me. If Federer wins it I smell a Wimbledon esq turnaround.

If Fed wins it - will still be too close to call. If Murray wins it, he'll win in 3 or 4

I believe Murray v Lopez and Berdych at the US Open he was 4-2 on the change of ends in the TB's and they ended well for Murray

This is ITF level of a tiebreak. I bet the women's final will show more balls than this.
