Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
First topic message reminder :
Australian Open 2013:
Information: The Australian Open is a major tennis tournament held annually over the last fortnight of January in Melbourne, Australia. First held in 1905, the tournament is chronologically the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events of the year – the other three being the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. It features men's and women's singles; men's, women's, and mixed doubles and junior's championships; as well as wheelchair, legends and exhibition events. Since 1988 the tournament has been played on hard courts at Melbourne Park.
The Australian Open typically has very high attendance, second only to the US Open. It was also the first Grand Slam tournament to feature indoor play during wet weather or extreme heat with its two primary courts, Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena, equipped with retractable roofs.

Alexander Agranovsky on tennis rivalries:
I have figured out HE's true identity
I don't believe in players having more than one real rival in their career. After the dust settled on Sampras and Agassi era, nobody remembers that both of them used to have difficult time and competitive head-to-head records with guys like Jim Courier, Michael Chang etc - they will be forever paired as part of the rivalry in our minds. Same goes for Becker and Edberg, Borg and McEnroy. Roger's rival has always been and will forever remain Rafa Nadal - and with Rafa out and Roger in decline, this is no longer the biggest rivalry in sport. Which leaves two top players which look like they are destined to carve a rivalry of their own - Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic. For the moment, it's still slightly too one-sided in Nole's favour, and you really need to be a multiple major winner to be considered a part of historic rivalry - but if Andy wins on Sunday, we might be in for something special

Re: Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
Murray again needs to just re-focus and remember just what he was doing right in the first three sets. A couple of near misses gave the break but he's still dominating the rallies, just needs to cut out the errors a little.

Drop in focus for five minutes and a fifth set looks on the cards. Novak will be liking this. And hoping for a Federer win because of back to back 5 set wins.

Great play by Murray to break back... But only 3 of 12 break points taken by Murray in the match. Fair play to roger, but that's a poor conversion rate from Andy.

Federer is a real mug trying to play Murray's baseline rally game. The first set was the key.

Wow, Murray has really grown a pair of cajones in the last year. 4-1 down to 6-5, this set would have been gone for pre-Lendl Murray
