Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
First topic message reminder :
Australian Open 2013:
Information: The Australian Open is a major tennis tournament held annually over the last fortnight of January in Melbourne, Australia. First held in 1905, the tournament is chronologically the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events of the year – the other three being the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. It features men's and women's singles; men's, women's, and mixed doubles and junior's championships; as well as wheelchair, legends and exhibition events. Since 1988 the tournament has been played on hard courts at Melbourne Park.
The Australian Open typically has very high attendance, second only to the US Open. It was also the first Grand Slam tournament to feature indoor play during wet weather or extreme heat with its two primary courts, Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena, equipped with retractable roofs.

gah, Murray gets his smash wrong and it's a lovely BH pass, and another missed FH from Murray levels it up.

Great point to break Murray in the 2nd set tie breaker to serve it out, exactly what I wanted a close 2nd set win in Tie breaker to inspire Federer and pressure Murray.

Murray needs to re-focus and remember what he was doing well for most of the first two sets, just a few loose FHs in that breaker cost him dear, but he's still very much in this match.

Murray needed that, a nice and solid opening service game, finished off with a lovely cross court BH winner.

Murray's first serve dropping a bit in this set, but Federer helping him out with a couple of loose FHs.

Wimbledon was 60-40 Murray I'd say. WTF was 70-30 Roger.
Roger is crowd favourite in 95% of matches.
This is the Wimbledon final all over again. Murray generally very good, loses it right at the end of the second... I have a fear that Roger will take this in 4 just like that match. Momentum has swung.

Murray's return of serve has been a little bit off in this match so far. Not poor by any means but not quite as good as it can be.

Yes the crowd bias to Federer is quite laughable. They'll all be off to watch the Man U game at the weekend. Glory hunters one and all!

There's a difference between being a glory hunter and supporting the guy who has consistently played the best tennis ever seen. Federer has earned his support. Glory hunters would be supporting Novak.

A break here for Murray would massive and swing the momentum in the match. C'mon.

I have often taken the view that people will back Federer should their favourite player fall away from tournament. Anything Federer achieves title wise since Wimbledon 2009 is historic. Witnessing history touches anyone.

Murray has ascendency and a bit of control in the third set. He has bounced back well from the shocker of a point played at 5-5 in the tie-break.

Nothing? Fed was unhappy a shot was called in that he felt was out but played on in the rally and lost it. Not sure what the umpire did wrong.

Fair point. It will be a mix of the two. Sadly its still the nature of a lot of people to attach themselves to something successful and claim they were there from the start. I have no issue with real fans who support through thick and thin.

that's how to serve out a set. Loses the first point tentatively but then is right back on the offensive, some huge hitting from the baseline and a couple of perfect aces and Murray has a two sets to one lead

I agree except most people have had Fed down as the underdog at the slams for at least a couple of years, yet his support keeps growing.

Re: Australian Open 2013: Match Thread 2
Picked up brilliantly in the last fifteen minutes. Needs to stay solid at the start of this set.
He's forcing Federer back, which is not easy to do. Needs to keep serving as well as he has and hope he can keep reading Rogers serve.
