Mark Bennett stays with Glasgow
And lo, whence he came, doth the Messiah stay.
It shall be for the rotation of one earth year. And the people shalt cry out praise and proclamations of joy.
Here commenceth the lesson from glasgowwarriors.org:
Scotland-U20 star Mark Bennett will stay with Glasgow Warriors next season after signing a new one-year deal with the Scotstoun side.
The highly rated centre joined up with the Warriors from Clermont Auvergne in November, having originally moved to the Top 14 side from Glasgow in 2011.
Since returning as a professional he has made three appearances in the RaboDirect PRO12, scoring a maiden try against the Dragons in the Warriors record 60-3 victory at Rodney Parade earlier this month.
Mark Bennett said: “I have really enjoyed the last few months in Glasgow and I am very happy to have been able to make this move permanent.
“I learnt a lot over in Clermont but this is an excellent opportunity to continue my development in Glasgow and to be involved at an exciting time for the club.”
Glasgow Warriors head coach, Gregor Townsend said: “Mark has shown a great deal of maturity since arriving back in Glasgow and we’re really pleased that he’s signed up for next season.
“Since breaking into the team he has not only shown his attacking threat, but also his defensive qualities. He had to be patient before earning his first start and he did that by impressing at training and working hard on his game.”
“When he did get his chance he seized on it, and that’s a valuable quality to have.”

Good signing. He has played really well in last few weeks. I've been really impressed with his defence.

To be fair keeping him at Glasgow is mental considering the ammount of talent they have at centre.
IMO he should be exported to Edinburgh, or Dunbar, Horne, Lamont or someone should.
It's good news if he can get regular rugby but that will be at the expense of one of the other new kids.

I think it's the competition that is helping them reach their potential. They know that of they don't play well enough there's someone who is just as good to replace them. I couldn't tell you glasgow's strongest line up anymore!

Re: Mark Bennett stays with Glasgow
Whats happened to Troy Nathan?
I rate him as a decent squad player and covers a number of positions, if anyone were to move cities I'd say it should be Troy, as the Scottish players should say with the side they came up with, but NSQ can move as they are less attached to a team.
Troy would be a handy addition for Edinburgh as well

Troy has already left the Warriors unfortunately. He wasn't getting any game time and was not even registered in Glasgow's HC campaign.

Do you know where he went to?
I'd even like to see him return to Connacht, he wouldn't be first team but being able to cover 10-15 makes him a very good squad player and would get games.

Re: Mark Bennett stays with Glasgow
on wiki troy He is qualified to play for Ireland, was this through residency and after leaving has he lost it?
or was he able to apply for Irish citizenship and as such wouldn't count as a NIQ player for Connacht?

He's playing for one of the Italian semi-pro sides from memory

Dunbar and Horne are the incumbents yes, but with Morrison leaving, Troy already left and Slamont being a winger who has extended his career by moving into the centre - we are not overflowing with centre options. The Hogg experiment at centre is surely over. Even McGuigan looks more like a winger than a centre. Therefore, I think Glasgow need Bennett to compete with Horne and Dunbar. Moreso if Horne starts to get shifted to 10!
Kingshu, as for Troy he didn't have a club to go to when he left Glasgow and I haven't heard of him finding one since ( could be wrong of course). As for residency, I think the opportunity expires when you leave and play a game elsewhere. We had a kiwi 10 playing in Scotland called Climo who I believe nulled his accrued residency by playing a single match in NZ ( again, could be wrong - often am )
EDIT: ASBO's right, he's now in Italy enjoying the sunshine.

Great news! Hopefully Toonie realises that Dunbar's best position is 12 and works out where he wants to use Horne 10, 12, 13 or 15...

Re: Mark Bennett stays with Glasgow
This is great news - albeit predictable. He was never going to make an impact at Clermont.
Slightly surprised it's only a one-year deal. I'd have snapped him up for as long as possible.
With NDL and Cairns at Edinburgh, Glasgow is the right Scottish club for him. Dunbar and Horne are both 12's in my book.

Re: Mark Bennett stays with Glasgow
I wonder if it's a one year deal because Clermont want the option to get him back after a season of first team rugby.

Or that's when Clermont estimates that the squad meals he provided by breaking the two loaves of bread and four fishes will run out.
