Yes! my pick has been praised... I can't lie that I was vaguely hoping you'd announce him as the guy you wanted to trade up for though!

I had Williams down on my list as a probably late1st rounder. There are still a couple on my list of potential top 32 picks plus 3 or 4 QBs.

Only QB gone so far! This is a pretty damning assessment of this year's QB class. In reality, what's the chances we get this far in the actual draft with only 1 QB off the board?

Houston Texans select...
Markus Wheaton (WR, Oregon State)
Wheaton has speed. He is a great route runner and can play in the slot as well as outside. He can be effective the short passing game with screens, drags and quick outs and his speed can help him beat coverage in the deep passing game. I think he can be well utilised as a deep threat on the Play Action passes that Matt Schaub loves so much. He has great hands, I don't think I've seen him drop a catchable ball, and always seems to be open. He contributes to the running game with end arounds and fly sweeps (averages 7.1 YPC with 2 TDs). Another thing I like about him is that he's a team player. When a ball is underthrown, he gets his hands in there to stop the interception. Also, he's a willing blocker and is often seen sprinting down the field ahead of the ball carrier to set up blocks for him. He's fantastic value this late in the second round.

and there I was thinking i'd be holding this up as I hadn't been on since Wednesday and I was only 2 picks away!
In a similar vein, if I don't get on the clock tonight I will probably need to PM someone my pick for Atlanta as i'm away all weekend and probably won't go near the net

With the 59th pick the New England Patriots select:
DJ Swearinger, S, South Carolina
One of my top 3 safety prospects in the draft.
Did consider a couple of other guys, hope one of them makes it to my 3rd round pick but he's about to blow up any day now, already started to gain attention - mentioned him probably over a month ago in the draft prospects thread.

Ah, damnit! I nearly took Swearinger with my Redskins pick but in the end I decided our need at CB was bigger and with our cap problems it looks like we can only address it via the draft. Was hoping that somehow he might still be around in the 3rd.
I really like the sound of him and in reality, if the Redskins nabbed him in the draft I'd be happy.

Feel with Birk not coming back, and Ravens unsure who will play LT next year, he is someone with pedigree and experience who can come in and be a good player

Olly, I think you've got the next pick as well with the Chiefs 3rd round pick.

I doubt that will be the case in the actual draft purely on the fact that QB is the most valuable position and a few teams will reach.TM Moot wrote:Into Round 3, and still only 1 QB drafted..

In the third roung you start to get some value for the rest of the quarterbacks, before this would have been reaching but I reckon we'll see a few taken this round.

Re: 2013 Mock GM Draft - 3 ROUNDS COMPLETE!!
With the 64th pick of the 2013 GM Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select:-
Zac Dysert, QB, Miami (OH), 6'3", 231lbs
Now, in reality, I'm not saying that this is a selection that the Jags should make but what's a mock draft for if it's not for throwing a bit of muck against the wall and seeing what sticks? Does anyone really believe that Gabbert or Henne is the answer at QB? I've never seen any of these college QBs play but I've been reading a lot about them of late and of the bunch, I like the sound of Dysert the best. I discounted Barclay and Manuel straight away cos I just have a general rule about not drafting USC and Florida St QBs. Dysert sounds like he has solid fundamentals, understands the game, makes good decisions, is a team player and probably hasn't reached his ceiling yet. He's an anti-Gabbert if you like! He's from the same school as Ben Roethlisberger and broke his records there. Like Big Ben he's a playmaker and a competitor. He's mobile in the Big Ben kind of sense rather than the RG3 sense. He has a lot of bad tape and is jumpy when pressurised by defenders but some of that is down to having a poor supporting cast around him. He won't be blessed with a star cast at the Jags but he doesn't have to start straight away and the Jags are in rebuild mode anyway so by the time he is looking to start, they should in theory be better. He has some of the tools to be like Big Ben and if he can get anywhere close to him then he's the best QB the Jags have ever had.
So, there you go, QB number 2 off the board. Now, go ahead and rip me to shreds!

I won't criticise the pick, they need help at QB for sure.
I will say that somewhere in southern California, a single tear is rolling down Matt Barkley's cheek.

Re: 2013 Mock GM Draft - 3 ROUNDS COMPLETE!!
I done a table on QB college stats such as passer ratings, completion percentages, yards, TDs etc and end up with the QBs ranked as:-
1) Geno Smith
2) Matt Barkley (not much between Smith and Barkley).
3) EJ Manuel
4) Tyler Wilson
5) Landry Jones
6) Tyler Bray
7) Zac Dysert
8) Ryan Nassib
9) Mike Glennon

Re: 2013 Mock GM Draft - 3 ROUNDS COMPLETE!!
So I've made the 7th best QB the second one off the board!! In Dysert's defence though, he seems to have suffered a good deal from having a bad O-Line and a bad bunch of WRs who dropped more than a few balls. His fundamentals seem sound and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of any negatives that couldn't be coached out of him.
These QBs are a bit of a crapshoot. That said, one or two of them should have decent enoughNFL careers. They can't all be busts surely. I'll take the guy who has drawn comparisons with Ben Roethlisberger and who, when he couldn't play QB due to a broken thumb, helped his team out by playing WR and LB and placeholder in kicks! Now that's a team player and a leader!

Although Dysert was 7th there wasn't much separating 4th to 9th and so I wouldn't be surprised to see anyone from my list rise up the board.

Ah well then, given my no drafting of USC or Florida St QBs rule, I don't feel so bad about my Dysert pick. If he played on a better team then maybe he'd be ranked higher.

Also I wouldn't want Barkley, but the USC QB myth is a lazy out. Palmer was easily one of the top QBs before injuries.

I'm a fan of Dysert. I wouldn't have picked him until the 4th at the highest though. He needs a good coach and won't be a starter on day 1 but he can become one.

Glennon seems to be a "marmite" QB.
Some seem to like him, others (myself included - after watching the Senior Bowl 1st Half I wouldn't draft any of those QBs in the top 3 rounds!) hate him.

Well, it is and it isn't. Being a QB at USC obviously doesn't automatically mean that you're not going to be a good NFL QB but at the same time, this is not a programme that history tells us produces good NFL QBs. In the last 30 years, Palmer is the only one they've churned out that has had anything like a solid NFL career, or even a better than half-decent career, and even he has won precisely zero playoff games. You know you're in trouble when your second best QB alumni over that period is Rodney Peete!

Lions select - Terron Armstead, OT/G, Arkansas-Pine Bluff ???
Good workouts, potentially a right tackle if Reiff moves to the blindside, not so sure if he would make a great guard though

Re: 2013 Mock GM Draft - 3 ROUNDS COMPLETE!!
Sorry, I forgot about this!
I went backwards and forwards with this pick. I was thinking I might take a QB and go with EJ Manuel, but considering moves of the past few days I think I can cross that off the list.
So, we need help in the secondary.
The Oakland Raiders select CB Tyrann Mathieu, LSU
He adds a nickel corner that we currently lack, as well as being a much needed playmaker in the secondary. What with Ford being made of glass he can also handle some punt returns for us too.

I wouldn't say Flynn precludes the Raiders from taking a QB. He cost basically nothing.

Yeah, but even still, I think we maybe add a QB in the very late rounds or pick up a UDFA. We have our 1&2 on the depth chart in my estimation, the order is probably set already with Flynn starting for now.
We have too many other glaring holes to take a QB with one of our first two picks. I hope.
