Im gald i stayed up for this fight
The downside of living in this country as a boxing fan is that most big fights tend to happen in the states, meaning we have to stay up till 5 or 6 in the morning to watch our favourite fighters, and admmitedly there have been times where ive thought to myself what the hell did i waste my time staying up to watch this for, but other times ive gone to bed with a big smile on my face or just had "WOW" moment, and after waking up the next day i couldnt stop telling people about it. These are the fights im asking you to dwelve into memory lane and pull out and share with us.
Il start off, for me theres 2 fights that i cant pick between:
1) One of them was Danny Garcia vs Amir Khan, it was a fight where around my circle i was the only one who wanted Khan to lose, mainly because of people overrating Khan, the guys good but his not that good, there were people telling me Amir could Knockout pac and floyd, despite me telling them, his offence is unquestionable but his defence is weak and his power was over rated. People were saying to me how his too good to be hit and how the peterson loss didnt count as he was on PEDS, which although i agreed with, i told them, the PEDS didnt give peterson the ability to beable to get on the inside of khan. but with these people you cant discuss with them as whatever points you put foreward they wont change their opinions and they always end with "oh his a pakistani we have to support him" from my family and friends and from university and work it was "mate his a t*** but his british at the end of the day". Also my now ex, who was my girlfriend at that time, knew i wasnt a fan of Khan and shed be telling me in the run up, khans going to win jus to wind me up. So even though I myself personally thought Khan would win, i honestly jumped up in the air and screammed YESSSS when he was KO'd there were 20 of us in the room and the rest were all looking at me like they wanted to kill me, i was soo happy though that i went to bed with a big smile on my face.
2) The other fight was mosley vs mayorga, mosley has been my favourite fighter in the past 10 years and to me i would have been happy with mosley winning anyway, didint matter if it was points or stoppage, but watching it the fight was abit too close for my liking and plus shane had said before the fight that hed ko mayorga and it didnt look like he would, and then end of the 12th round and mayorga went down and thought its abit too late as there were only afew seconds left and thought mayorga would survive, when BOOM left hook and mayorga goes down. I was happy that Shane had won, but what got my attention more was that hook he through it was a thing of beauty, and i remember the day after telling everybody to go watch the hook.
So there you have it theres my 2 fights i was glad i stayed up for, what are yours and why?

I'm sort of glad I stayed up for Martinez v Chavez Jr. Sort of because part of me would have preferred to see the result, then watch that final round knowing it wasn't all going down the loo for Sergio. Although of course it was fairly epic watching live despite being way too nervy.
Pacquiao Marquez IV because it was such a shock to see Manny get anesthetised like that. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it live.

Definitely Garcia-Khan, I was flabbergasted by the result. Also Marquez-Pacquiao 4.
Both fighters who lost were winning but boy those K.O's reminded me anything's possible in boxing.

Re: Im gald i stayed up for this fight
Agree with Khan vs Garcia, mainly as I'd had a decent flutter on Garcia to win by stoppage!
Others would be Marquez knocking Pacquiao to la la land, was one of those moments of jaw dropping epicness.
Mosley destroying Margarito, especially as news started to filter through that something was dodgy with the latters gloves. Wanted him to take a pasting and Mosley did just that.
Lewis vs Vitali. Ended up being the last great HW fight of our time (for now, not exactly looking like rising from the ashes though), who would've said that about a Lewis fight before they went toe to toe?!
Any fight involving Katsidis.

Being as I live in North America these days, I don't get to domuch staying up for fights. But in the past:
Holy v Tyson I.
On the flip side
Hatton v Pac was a major disappointment.

Re: Im gald i stayed up for this fight
About 5 or 6 of my friends used to meet up for the really big fights and drink all night. Those were the days before wives and kids. I'm not really up to staying up now, it would really need to be a blockbuster. It was only really when Sky came about that I stayed up on a more regular basis. Before that there was no internet and there was little opportunity to tune into a late night fight. I can't remember for sure but I think I stayed up to watch pre-jail Tyson fights and the BBC covered Bruno.
Not a great fight but I remember getting locked into a hotel after pleading with the owner to let me stay on after closing time to watch the Hopkins v Calzaghe fight. The two of us stayed up drinking till 5 am.
The best fights off the top of my head that I watched involved Barrera, Morales, Manny, Marquez, Holyfield, Lewis, Vázquez, Khan, Gatti, Jones Jr. The most exciting from a local perspective in the build up at least were, Bruno, Naz and Hatton.

Re: Im gald i stayed up for this fight
When I first met my ex-wife, she came back to my flat after being at a nightclub. Put the TV on: Barrera vs Morales 1 was about to start, live. At that time, I didn't know much about either boxer, though I'd heard of them. My ex then declares that she loves boxing, and at that time got regular gigs as a ring girl on some of the Sky shows. We stayed up and watched, in my opinion, the best fight ever: grudge, high skill, volume of punches, both coming forward. Then we went to bed - so pretty amazing night all round!!!!

Actually, there was one downer - wrong result in my opinion. Close, but had it the other way.

Good fights, alot of you are saying marquez v pac 4, thats one fight i was gutted i didnt stay up for, had a wedding to go to the next day so had an early night, woke up with 2 texts saying telling me the result and i honestly thought it was a joke at the time, only to find out id missed out on one of the best knockouts of the year.
Ive only just realised myself, but im surprised nobody else has spotted my spelling mistake, but you all got the message so its all good.

Strange one this but Tyson v Bruno II. If I hadn't stayed up to watch the main event I wouldn't have seen Ricardo Lopez destroy Vilamor with the best uppercut I've seen.

Re: Im gald i stayed up for this fight
Completely left field but:
Williams vs Cintron. Yes, the fight was an absolute stinker, then, out of no where Williams was hurt came back with a couple and Cintron lept through the ropes.
The fight was appalling, but the comical value was too much.
The other one was Hopkins vs Pavlik. An old man against a tough young Middleweight at the top of his game... neither fighter really interested me too much at this point and the fight, I thought, was pretty meaningless. That is until the result, I watched a masterclass.

Khan vs Maidana was a cracker, also Martinez vs Chavez for the 12th round, I will never forget the heart Martinez showed in getting up off the floor and going straight back at Chavez. He had a broken hand and knee ligament damage as well!

Worth it...Naz/Barrera, Pavlik v Taylor, Cotto/Margarito, Lewis/Holyfield, Lewis/Tyson, Lewis/Klitschko, Winky/Trinidad
Not worth it...Calzaghe/Hopkins, DLH/Hopkins, Mayweather/DLH, DLH/Carr

Re: Im gald i stayed up for this fight
Pacquiao-Cotto is the one that stands out for me.
I'd had a busy day, was knackered and had been out that night, though had stayed off the booze in anticipation. But by two or three in the morning I was feeling absolutely done and there was still a couple of hours or so until the fight. As it was on normal Sky Sports I was tempted to just record it and watch it on the Sunday afternoon after ducking the result for the early part of the day.
Just about managed to stick it out, though, and I was so glad, because I was absolutely blown away by Pacquiao that night - can't think of many other performances I saw as it happened which I enjoyed more. History-making fight which, more than any other, fuelled the absolutely insane demand for Manny against Floyd throughout late 2009 to 2011. I know it sounds daft, but I was so glad I watched it live rather than seeing it after everyone else. Fantastic stuff.

I stayed up for that fight as well, but I didn't enjoy it quite so much, because I am a Cotto fan.....

Watched Khan v Garcia in a casino and found it hilarious watching all off his fans on the verge of tears after he'd been splattered.

As much as you'd like to believe it, this wasn't a casino.
