Ridiculous comments.
Jiffy originally played for Wales in an era where sublime skill trumped bulk. We never saw the best of him as he sold his soul to league. I don't blame him but he should keep quiet.
When Jiffy returned for Wales, they were 10 years behind England and the other top nations.
With regards to his comments...
How many tournaments did he win with Wales or Neath/Llanelli or Cardiff?
How many caps did he get.
Wilko is still an amazing player and experience alone is a BIG factor come lions time.
Farrell ahead of Biggar should be the main question.

Jiffy's right, Wilko wouldn't be a great move to take on the Lions, someone who can't get the backline moving and is limited and in his own words unwilling to tour is not a ideal selection.
Stop letting the bloody media twist you into shape, it's getting ridiculous that people are genuinely upset that Wilkinson isn't touring.

Well if you think back to Johnny's last games for England you should realise Jiffy is making a fair point. I'm sure Wilko will take it on the chin so don't worry.

Jiffy is right in onevthing though if the media didn't build players up to be world beaters then the public wouldn't be so annoyed when their not picked

Completely agree.
Biggar was more deserving of a place if you ask me, or even Laidlaw as the 3rd 10 option.

I don't think Wilkinson should go at all now he was offered a place he said no hes committed to toulon which is fair enough but he said as me later on in the tour what gives him the right to pick, he's no dan carter hes not even as good as sexton. Maybe if he was playing at the same level as 2003 then maybe but hes not hes just an aging player

Re: Jiffy talking ball lux
Jiffy said that Wilkinson as had his day. In my opinion so has POC, BOD, but they got invited on to the Lions tour... For what it is worth i do think that Wilkinson did the right thing by turning down the proposal.
Wilkinson did say did he not that he ( Wilkinson) thought it was time for the young guns to step up... So i admire him for that.....Like wise with BOD, i do think he would of been better off turning down Gatlands invitation for the same reason that Wilkinson gave. TIME FOR THE YOUNG GUNS TO STEP UP.

Yes but the difference is that BOD doesn't have any outside centres playing who are better or level with him, whereas Johnny is below Sexton and in my opinion Biggar.

Re: Jiffy talking ball lux
Davies' non too subtle agenda is simply to get Biggar picked as a replacement when Sexton or Farrell get injured.
If Wilko doesnt fly out , Flood is a far more rounded player but Gatland has been pretty consistent in picking his own squad thus far and probably doesnt need lobbying from Davies to pick the FH from the successful Ospreys team.

Biggar might not be successfully for ospreys this year but he is the 10 for the six nations champions so don't that put him in front of flood

Gatland doesn't even like picking Biggar for Wales. Not sure he'd go for him for the Lions.

Re: Jiffy talking ball lux
the welsh management reluctantly had biggar for the 6ns.
the fact that previously they stuck with rp when biggar was really on form says as much.
wouldnt surprise me if its rp gatland is waiting for.
staying at the ospreys, staying in wales out of loyalty, will not be rewarded for biggar. shame, i still think the guy has the makings of a superb 10.

Ye, as much faith as the Ospreys have put in Biggar, and some of it has been rewarded, I get the feeling his chances with Wales are all but gone, especially with Gatland at the helm, so a big money move to England or France may tempt him with no international pocket money to boast about.

Comparing Jiffy to Wlikinson is absurd. Jonny as a player isn't fit to clean Jiffy's boots. You are right we did lose his best years to league. Had he played in the England side Wilkinson did, then he would be hailed as the greatest player to have ever lived. The boy may not be everyone's cup of tea as a media pundit but he was a fantastic Rugby player
If you haven't seen this or are too young to remember him, take the time to follow the link, and then tell me I am wrong

The Lions have those two bases well covered with Owen Farrell without needing to resort to WilkinsonLooseheaded wrote:Jiffy's right, Wilko wouldn't be a great move to take on the Lions, someone who can't get the backline moving and is limited .

Wouldn't have taken either, but if you want a Jonny why not take the real thing. Farrell is but a poor man's imitation

Same old shoite. Different thread.
There are 37 Lions going out to Aus, and yes, I've had my say about a couple of selections.
Now it's time to just get behind these lads, and whoever else ends up touring.
Biltong, you are 'Mr emoticon'. I demand a Lions' one.

Re: Jiffy talking ball lux
This discussion reminds me of those auto-generated computer responses. Someone says Jonny Wilkinson, and the same old responses come in, just like clockwork, whether from a gent like Jiffy or here. If they keep going on, pretty soon Jonny will be accused of being a worse fly half than Mauro Bergamasco was a scrum half.Hound of Harrow wrote:Same old shoite. Different thread.
Frankly, none of us know what Gatland is thinking about his third fly half, except that he made a Lions offer to Jonny. Clearly he rates Jonny over other candidates. The Lions are such a unique concept in Rugby, as much as an ideal as a team. A coach which leads the Lions to a series victory will have his legacy cemented in gold. And would a coach in his right mind entrust his legacy to Dan Bigger or Jonny Wilkinson? A simple choice, really. And that is not a shot at Bigger. The opposite really.

Re: Jiffy talking ball lux
Gatland by choice obviously intended to take 3 fly halves. It was strange then to defend the policy of only taking 2 & using Hogg as cover?
The inference being he will bring out Johnny if & when he is available as opposed to choosing anyone else currently available & not selected to tour.
As Guscott says JW will be ideally suited to the straight running power game adopted by Gatland. As opposed to a playmaker even if there was a class one available. So Jiffys comments are irrelevant.
The lack of a playmaking IC is more of a worry.

Re: Jiffy talking ball lux
Everyone has spent the last week going on about the lack of creativity in midfield and yet people want Wilkinson there (which would add no creativity at all and we would only need our wings and full backs to field kicks the Aussies put down field). If Toulon had lost to Leicester (or Saracens) no-one would be talking up Wilkinson.
The chance are that had Priestland not ruptured his achilles he would have been on the plane to Aus but he just hasn't played enough to justify being picked at this stage. I would not be at all surprised though if he got the call if Sexton or Farrell gets injured.
Hook would potentially be another option but I don't think Gatland would call him up even if he had a blinder for the Barbarians in Hong Kong as he had too many shockers in Gatland's early days (after all Hook is the master at throwing the intercept pass) and didn't exactly set the world alight on the last Lions tour (and we all know that good performances there have got a few people on the plane).
