I reckon it's the Fijian utility back Tulibula.
Crazy-ass acid-induced hunch, and little more.

Ok, I'm in there with the first claim for a Glasgow-esque random nickname:
'Sherlock' somehow seems to obvious, so I'll suggest 'Morriarty'.

Sounds like a decent signing - played at a high level in SA and SQ so even if he is just a squad player it is good for the club.
Anyone know anything about him?

Just seen that he's in fact only played 1 game for the stormers and has been playing rugby in Italy all season, not sure if it is one of the 2 pro teams...

He was a regular in a very strong Western Province team in 2012, so hopefully he has some kind of pedigree.
Its only a one year deal and its an area where we needed to bring someone in. Being Scottish Qualified makes it even better.
Hopefully we can bring in one more Center, with proven experience to complete the squad for next season.

Yeah I don't see anything wrong with this - a 27 year old SQ flanker with top level experience is a good signing, if even just for squad cover.
Remember Edinburgh signed a 35 year old Tongan Hooker on a 2 year deal!
I dread to think what signings are coming Edinburgh's way this summer...

Re: Scottish Pro team thread
Sounds like more sensible business by Glasgow, and it's only a 1 year deal so if he turns out to be a bit Atiga-ish (new adjective for the Oxford Dictionary - not possible to define on here due to filters), then little harm done. If he's any good, then no doubt Glasgow have a bargain.
The Beeb story on Simon Cross seemed a bit garbled to me. I see they've edited it but it initially suggested that he's been Edinburgh's head coach since 2011.....nice to know the Beeb keep their toe wet in all things Scottish rugby.....
Not too bothered about Cross leaving in any case. What is important is that the new head coach - whoever he may be - picks his own staff. I just wish they'd get on with it!!

I wonder how Edinburgh season tickets are getting on considering we had a crap season, have no coach and no exciting new players.
Glasgow have over 2000, Edinburgh probably have 2 - FES and someone that won it in a competition!

Well they keep sending letters trying to sell more, and haven't made any sort of announcement re: sales as far as I'm aware, so I assume that they are a few short of last year.
It also looks like there'll be no pre-season match at Murrayfield, with the Newcastle game being shipped to the Borders. I appreciate the need to spread the word, and the free bus to and from the game is a nice offer, but it's slightly annoying for those of us who likely won't be able to escape work in time to make that game.

Good, solid signing - gives some more balance to the backrow - and if he isn't up to standard its only a one year deal.
Just an inside centre away now - I wonder if Alex Blair might get a look in, just noticed he is fit again. Scottish, talented and could come in cheap on a year deal to see if he was up to it.

It will be interesting to see how the signings are split up - yes Glasgow need a centre (especially with Horne injured) but Edinburgh are equally understaffed at centre.

Although not the most well loved of players, perhaps max Evans returning to Glasgow could be a good thing?
Nice signing by Glasgow, seems similar sort of player to Barclay so a good replacement. Interesting to see how he gets on.
What's the ten situation at Glasgow? Will weir, Jackson or Horne be available for first game? Not sure what the extent of the injuries are.

Good point - that's 3 front line 10s all injured. I suspect Jackson or Weir will be back by then, probably more likely Jackson.
They've got Scott Wight still and he will do a job until one gets fit.
I wonder how long a holiday they will give the Scotland players? Pretty sure last year they got 4 weeks, which seemed a lot and it meant it was the 3rd or 4th game of the season before they played.
Plus they all had a holiday just before the summer tour so it's not as if they're short of holidays!

They were pretty much on holiday during the Samoa fixture as well.....
Perhaps Finn Russell will get a shot for Glasgow in the first couple of fixtures.

As long as they do not become the unofficial Help for Heroes amputee rugby B XV any signing damage should be able to be undone when they FINALLY announce the new coach and he starts his job. This is assuming that he is a better coach than Bradley and lets face it, it is a tall order to be worse than him but if anyone can find a man to do that it is the SRU.

Young Mr Holmes, certainly talks the talk; he seems keen on Glasgow, city and club, and his faither is desperate to see him wear the thistle. If he can back it up with Bluto-esque performances we'll have done well here. I like him already.

Re: Scottish Pro team thread
Sounds a solid signing on paper and exactly what Glasgow need - i.e. an openside specialist. Interesting that he's SQ qualified. With the injury records that Fusaro and Rennie have, the more depth at 7 the merrier.
Still, we've seen a few players signed in recent times who looked good on paper, only to be rubbish on the pitch. Let's hope this lad is decent (except in the 1872 fixtures....).

RDW - that's good to know they'll hopefully be on mend by then. Be good to see wight get more game time though.
How is Leonard and co? Is there a chance we'll be seeing more of them this season?
I suppose a back three of cuthbert, walker and visser won't be too shabby for Edinburgh. Big lads all of them.

Re: Scottish Pro team thread
Assuming Edinburgh don't sign another 10, I'd expect Leonard to feature prominently this season, possibly first choice at 10.
I'd be astounded if Cuthbert displaced Greg Tonks from the 15 jersey. I think Cuthbert's primary role will be to provide an endless source of laughter for the Glasgow contingent on here.
I think Walker will actually be quite handy on the other hand, and similarly Ali Dickinson. Both experienced players who have been oft underrated by Scotland fans. I'm certainly happier with Walker on the right wing than Lee Jones, although that's saying very little.

Whatever people think of his international career, Walker was a resounding success with the Ospreys, it speaks volumes that Bowe often got shifted to 13 to accomodate Walker. Hes definitely a good pro12 player.

Re: Scottish Pro team thread
The big caveat on Walker though is that he has to be used properly. No use chucking static ball at him and expecting miracles.
The Ospreys brought him off the wing as much as possible, and brought him onto the ball at pace. That way his power and long stride can be used to maximum effect.
Scotland never managed to do that (not that Parks and Morrison could release a fart successfully after a long plane journey) - hopefully Edinburgh can succeed in that regard.

Welsh and Cusack are injured a lot, and Grant, Welsh and Low will be away with Scotland pretty frequently. When you look at it like that, the signing makes sense.

It looks like he started three of the five Pacific Nations matches this year, at both loose- and tight-head (not at the same... well, you get it.), and was subbed on from the bench once.
Really good to see, particularly after seeing him part if the Fiji pack who totally minced the USA up front a couple weeks back.
I'm usually a bit skeptical of a PI player being touted as an 'international', when it usually turns out they've had on cap against Papua New Guinea, but Jerry looks the real deal.

Yeah but Edinburgh have 4 front line props, one of which is usually with Scotland and the other (Dickinson) may be involved....

Sorry ASBO!
Seriously though - if Edinburgh don't sign a prop this is going to look a strange signing - Glasgow have 8 front line props or something like that and we have 4...
I suppose Atiga could always do us a shift there is required.
