There doesn't seem to be much going on but I thought it might be an idea to set up a thread devoted to transfers, coaching news and general new information to do with the Scottish pro clubs over the summer

Yeah but Edinburgh have 4 front line props, one of which is usually with Scotland and the other (Dickinson) may be involved....

If Edinburgh aren't clever enough to improve their propping options, that's their lookout. This Fijian bloke obviously wanted to go to Glasgow, he talks about how great a time Niko has had there.

Shame Ofa left, he was a handy prop to have but this guy looks like a unit as well. Could possibly do with an extra centre but other than that it looks a pretty handy squad.

The SRU need to get the finger out and sort Edinburgh out, I'd definitely get Gary Mercer involved.  Dickinson is a solid signing but they still look weak in the front-five and a lack of fly-half is a concern.  Don't want to see Laidlaw posted there all season because they lose faith in Francis or Leonard.

Ryan Wilson is the latest Warrior to be out long term thanks to an injury picked up in South Africa.

Out till the 6 Nations.

Makes the signing of Holmes make more sense now.

Shame for Wilson as he had been playing well. It wasn't that long ago he was out rehabilitating a knee injury, now its the shoulder. Unlucky, hope he bounces back soon.

With Barclay gone, Wilson out and Vernon and Holmes in, I wonder what the first choice backrow will be at the start of the season for Glasgow.

7)Fusaro
6)Holmes

Yanuyanutawa signing is a bit strange after thinking about it, why not keep Ofa then?

Could this mean big Mike Cusack hasn't recovered from his injury? Anyone has some info, is he training? i didnt see him in the judo video.

Weir is back for the start of the year?! I thought they were talking October?
Glasgow do seem to be making a few "squad signings" - no one too fancy etc but decent players. There again they will have freed up a good whack of salary bill when the various guys like Barclay, Morrison, Rory Lamont etc left for whatever reasons
The silence from Murkyfield about Edinburgh signings is deafening

Josh Strauss ready to go after a MRI scan cleared his injury worries- thank goodness. Talking about a Murchie - Dunbar 13 -12 partnership on the Warriors site. Still think Jacko could do a good job at 12 while Pete Horne is out.

Concerns re Cusack and Cusiter - no news is bad news for us there.

Schiz, a strong side there. Methinks this season could make believers of a lot of people if the Messiah steps up from being a bit part player. Capt Kellock could struggle to get into the side, which is as it should be. Like you I think Jackson could do the job at 12, or Dunbar-Schlong might be worth a look. Is Bluto an 8?
Any thoughts about the Execeter, as they says, match?

Jimbo my son,

Bluto has played 8 a few times last season so he can do it.

Waiting on fixture dates for the Chiefs game (Heino) but defo going. Think we should defer to the ASBO fella on arrangements etc and I will do likewise for the return in the leafy WE of Glasgow. Must be a Saturday game so that our Exeter chums can travel. Will PM you asap. Hellish h/o after pubbing it to watch Andy M slam that Russian guy last night !vomit

Schiz, I am shocked to the very core at the thought of you imbibing in strong liquor. I'm in pre-season training so have cut right back as they say.
I know Bluto can fill in at 8 but so can Kellybrows and we all know that is as pointless as darning your socks with a marble. What I meant is will he be able to play instinctively in that position. Sorry it's probably cruel to put metaphysics before you.
You don't have Richie V in your squad - not even as cover in the centres?
Last point to any posters who are considering going to t'Stoop for Warriors v Pretentious City Types (Quins old chap) I will be falling off the wagon that weekend so any suggestions for good pubs in the vicinity of the ground will be gratefully accepted.

I have just seen, on SKY, Hoggy leaving the team hotel wearing nothing but very skimpy and shiny scarlet Speedos. Either he lost a bet or the MFL are about to announce a new signing.
Man up boy and stay at Scotstoun.
Mind you it could have been worse, it could have been Adam Jones in the Speedos.Shocked

Glasgow looking a little short at 8 - Strauss is a great player but definitely more of a 6, and Vernon is a complete beanpole. On the plus side neither are going to be on international duty very often.

In other news....ANDY MURRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yahoo

A very good question, especially considering there's only 45 days until our first pre season game.

Maybe the SRU are just agreeing terms & dotting the I's on Robbie Deans contact...

Morning all - a week or so away from these boards and I return to a Lions test series win and a young man from Stirlingshire holding the men's Wimbledon singles trophy. Lovely. I'll watch both the second and third tests online when I get the chance. Hopefully those Scots involved in the successful touring party will have taken a lot from the experience and resolved that it will improve their game.

I am pleased about the two new Glasgow signings but I suspect that we shouldn't get too moist with excitement about Holmes. At 27, he only played once for the Stormers and whilst we would all love him to be another Josh Strauss, I don't think that he's possibly going to be. Strauss was a Currie Cup winning club captain and was widely touted as a future Springbok.  Holmes p!ssed around with the Pirates and in Italy most recently and will need to get his fitness up to scratch. I think that the 7 shirt is Fozzy's to lose, with Vernon and Holmes scrapping for the pieces.

Still, at least there's squad cover where it was needed. Am really quite concerned about the tumbleweeds where an active Edinburgh club news cycle is supposed to be.

Edit: When do we get our nice new kits from Macron, then? It's supposed to be this month, isn't it? Am just hoping that the new Glasgow shirt sponsor isn't Tampax, Netta or prescription suppositories.

Welcome back George!

The last two weeks on these boards have been.....well...........erm......
I suppose I can only describe it as......

Shocked Rolling Eyes boxing mad furious Dohsteam Headscratch Broken Record warning

Oh, and lots of Emo youtube clips.

Apart from that, pretty quiet really.

On another note, does anyone know when the HC fixtures are released?

Dates I was after RDW - With a baby on the way due September, I need to start some serious grovelling for the Exeter v Glasgow game, especially working away during the week!

With any luck, it'll be after the New Year.

In other news, I see Edinburgh can definitely rule out McKenzie as a potential suitor.

Nah it's the second so in theory, I SHOULD be ready although some kind of memory lapse mechanism has deleted the experiences of being cconstantly tired, getting up 3 times in the night, the constant smell of milk poo, having a white stain on your shoulder at all times, the panic when you leave the bairn on the bed and three seconds later hear the massive thump as you discover they've just learned out to roll over etc etc etc etc etc etc.

Should be fine though.

Tattie, do you mean the Quins- Warriors " friendly"? If so, as mentioned before I am trying to organise an outing from my club. Obviously we need a watering hole and equally obviously I could do with some Scottish voices to supplement myself and no1 son. Let me know if anyone/ anywhere is possible. Jimbopip.

You attending the 'friendly' as well As?
Tattie, do you mean the Quins- Warriors " friendly"? If so, as mentioned before I am trying to organise an outing from my club. Obviously we need a watering hole and equally obviously I could do with some Scottish voices to supplement myself and no1 son. Let me know if anyone/ anywhere is possible. Jimbopip.

Nah Jimbo, talking about the Chiefs Glagow friendly on the 31st August. Enjoy the game though - I'm sure you'll should loud enough for the rest of us OK

Interview with Mossy in the Edinburgh Evening News - says he 'expects an Edinburgh coaching announcement soon', which to me basically translates as 'we've got no one and I don't know what else to say'

All I'm hoping is that the SRU have learnt from the baws up with Cotter and are waiting until everything is finalised before announcing it.

Or it's possible that it migh be Lord Mossy himself?

Am getting very nervous that they haven't announced Solomons yet. He has officially severed all ties with the Sharks so (other than where he's agreeing personal terms with the SRU) there's no reason not to annouce, really.

Although as you say RDW, to feic up one coaching annoucement is simply a mistake, to do it twice is sheer crapulent ineptitude.

Maybe he doesn't want to be Edinburgh coach? Wouldn't blame him...

If he doesn't want it they're gonna struggle to find anyone else with similar coaching quality and experience.

I dunno RDW, Edinburgh can't get any worse.

Any coach that comes in and stabilises the squad and get's them up near to the performances of their HC run, will be seen as a success.

I actually think it's a pretty decent project to take on.

I agree that it is a decent job to have, as there are good players there and good young players there, but if he doesn't know much about the Rabbo (which being a Kiwi coaching in SA chances are he doesn't), all he'll see is that Edinburgh are the 3rd worst team!
