They'd call up locals to play for them. It happened on the odd occasion.

Cheers Jim - Enjoy the banter - good times for us at the moment after years of heartache - I grew up in the 70's so have relatively seen it all - As you have probably noticed I'm the one that brings the balance and reason to the posting on here so crack on mate

After seeing Jenkins pull out I worry for the set peice, Vunipola hasn't come up against an actual set peice yet and now he has Youngs and Stevens will be there to rocket backwards with him, I think this could be a very tough battle, and I will be amazed if we get enough of a platform to let the backs do their thing to devestating effect.
18 - 15 Lions scraping home through individual brilliance in the backline.

Re: Lions v Reds...
As I am not too keen an observer of rugby in the NH, I am interested to know how good the Lions line-up for the Reds games is? Would this be considered a 2nd string side? Or somewhere between the 1st and 2nd choice line ups?
I think the Reds look pretty good considering they've lost quite a few players. I reckon the Reds back row of Schatz, Quirk and Robinson will give the Lions back row a run for their money. Schatz and Quirk have been excellent this year for the Reds and Robinson will be firing as it's his 2nd game back from injury.

It's a fairly mixed Lions side
The concern is with the front row mainly.

Liking that lions team. Can Youngs show his worth and speed to get a test start over Philips? Can Hogg cement a place?

I like the backrow, centres and back 3
However, I have question marks over the front row and halfbacks and we will have to see how the locks go.

For both Ben Youngs and Farrel this is their chance to claim a test start. I want Ben Y to do really well as I think his style of play is what the lions need. Farrell is the understudy to sexton but needs to get his confidence and composure back

Lest see if if the Welsh back rowers can justify their selections - many of us think Warbs and Lydiate lucky to be there - lets see them prove us wrong!
