PICK YOUR TWO FAVOURITES
Music Cup Round 5 - Boybands
It's the one everyone has been waiting for - the boybands are back in town. We'll have a cracking debate on this one.
Round 4 saw a comfortable win for the greatest song of all time in Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger. This round is filled with less iconic songs than the last round (depending on what is iconic to you, I suppose) but many of the expected suspects are in there.
Special mention to the man who nominated Lonely Island - genius. Equally special mention to the entire board because no-one stooped to include One Direction. It would have been a bold move on a male-dominated sports forum.
As always, select your favourite TWO, "favourite" perhaps used more loosely in this round than others.
Round 6 will be....songs with a name in the title. That's proper names too, not like Apple or Moon-Unit.

I sense a 5ive win here
I voted for them and Right Said Fred, because Richard Fairbrass IS too sexy for his shirt

I'm really not a boyband fan, but there are some good songs on that list and I'm finding it hard to pick a top 2

Re: Music Cup Round 5 - Boybands
Went for the Monkees and Backstreet's Back, though I think my choice is a better Boy Band song than the latter. I buy that the Monkees are a boy band, don't buy that the Jackson 5 are, they weren't really the genre I'd associate with it though they are the best song on the list. Father and Son by Boyzone is literally a crime against music and I reserve the right to maim Ronan Keating if I ever meet him

I didn't nominate anyone in this round as I don't particularly like boybands. However, I over-looked the Monkees, as I do have their greatest hits CD, so I've voted for them.

I didn't initially but IMDB says:
Wham! were the biggest-selling pop musicians of the 1980s and one of the first internationally successful Boy Bands.

My take on a boy band is one that's been set up through an audition, but that's just me.

Where are the reasons?
On second thoughts, I've just remembered what I put so probably best to leave it as it is.

I haven't voted for them, but in terms of actual singing talent, Westlife are far and away the best here (well, except MJ). They hit some truly ridiculous notes, as pointed out by own of my friends, in their songs, things like full-voice Cs, Ds and Es!

When my twins were born a couple of years ago, there were a few complications and they were delivered by C-section. While Mrs Windows was flat on her back having her stomach cut open, there was music playing in the background on the radio in the operating theatre and it just so happened to be Club Tropicana. I can vividly remember humming along as the surgeon is pulling the kids out, George Michael in budgie smugglers firmly burnt into my mind. Bizarre.
As you were.

My 2nd son was born in June, bizarrely they had a christmas cd playing in the op theatre (he too was born by C-section!) and it was Wham's Last Christmas.
Wham - the band of choice for C-Section deliveries.

Voted for Hanson and Back For Good.
When my daughter was born, Mrs Womble had a water birth and had an iPod playing some random playlist of soothing songs etc. When it came to actually pushing, for some reason Wake Me Up Before You Go Go came on which I didn't think was very soothing but hey. That's my Wham/Birthing story.
Carry on.

Mine were conceived to Telegraph Road by Dire Straits. It's 14 minutes long you know.
Although that did include foreplay.

So does everyone listen to music when they are "trying to have kids"?
I never have done.
That will be my round 7 - "What song do you listen to when you're getting your end away?"

So does Andrew Ridgley and Gary Barlow!
And for that matter Tony Mortimer of East 17.
Re: Music Cup Round 5 - Boybands
You would also have to eliminate the monkees, Jackson 5 and Right Said Fred!

I don't think the Monkees played their instruments.
Nonetheless, it's a tricky thing to specify. Take That are definitely a boyband, even if one plays the piano.

Re: Music Cup Round 5 - Boybands
The Monkees pretended to play their instruments and didn't write any of their own songs, they were pretty much the first ever boyband! They did do some of their own writing later on but for that song they did not and the instruments were all played by a session band

Terrific key change in the chorus on that song.
Blink182 video to 'All the small things' is a urine take of the Backstreet Boys 'I want it that way'. Very amusing.

Prefer Weird Al Yankovic's version which is called "Which Backstreet Boy is gay?"
