Greatest ever Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight Champion Qualifier round 1
Greatest Ever Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight Champion Qualifier Match 1
Following on from the current (ongoing) best wrestler thread, I thought I would do a best ever light heavy/cruiser champion thread (WCW and WWF/E years). There were 48 in total, with some pretty big names that went on to win the big ones (WWE championship/ World Heavyweight championship)
There will be 8 qualifying rounds with 6 'superstars' in each group, from each group 2 will progress to the 8 last 16 matches (2 in each poll), the quarter finals, semi final and the final where the 606v2 best ever light heavy/cruiser champion will be crowned.
The first qualifier includes the following 6 superstars drawn at random from the 51 champions.
Essa Rios - Debuted in the 'E' at the tender age of 18, making appearances at major PPV events such as wrestlemania. He won the Light Heavyweight championship by defeating the longest reigning Light Heavyweight champion, Gillberg. Still wrestles under the name Mr. Aguila.
Lance Storm - Storm held the Cruiserweight championship simultaneously with the WCW United States Heavyweight championship and the WCW hardcore title.
Alex Wright - He defeated Chris Jericho to win the championship. After winning the title, Wright began a feud with Jericho at that point, including an initial title defense against Jericho before dropping the title back to Jericho. Is of German/British descent.
Rey Mysterio - One night after defeating Psicosis at the Bash at the Beach pay-per-view, Rey Mysterio was awarded the shot at Dean Malenko's Cruiserweight Championship on an edition of Monday Nitro. Mysterio took full advantage of his opportunity, upsetting the veteran Malenko in the opening contest of the evening. The reign was just the first of many atop the cruiserweight mountain for Mysterio
Jushin Liger - Jushin Liger celebrated Christmas 1991 by ending Brian Pillman's two-month reign as WCW Cruiserweight Champion. Liger went on to hold the championship for two months before losing it back to Pillman.
Jeff Hardy - Former Intercontinental and World Tag Team Champion Jeff Hardy captured the Light Heavyweight Championship in June 2001 when he defeated Jerry Lynn on SmackDown! Later in the month, Hardy lost the Light Heavyweight Championship to X-Pac on RAW.

Tough between Mysterio and Liger, could be a worthy final let alone the 1st round, both ATG juniors going to go for Rey Rey given he's more associated with the titles we are voting on than Liger who is more a NJPW guy

There was some fantastic talent in these divisions, it's easy to look back with rosé tinted glasses but there was some absolute dross too.
