Greatest ever Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight Champion Qualifier match 3
Greatest ever Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight Champion Qualifier match 3
On to the third match and this draw has more quality (in my opinion) overall including the man of 1000 holds who was one of only three people to hold both versions of the title.
Any reasons for your votes would be appreciated to stir debate.
Christian - Captain Charisma himself, has held most of the major titles in his stints within the 'E' and TNA. Before he was a heavyweight champion he was the second ever Light Heavyweight champion winning the belt in his first match in the WWE vs Taka Michinoku at Judgement Day.
Dean Malenko - Man of 1000 holds, one of only three men to hold both versions of the title. Although never a world champion, Malenko achieved significant championship success in ECW, WCW and the WWE, holding multiple titles in each organization. PWI voted him the number 1 wrestler in the world in 1997.
Scotty Flamingo - Better known as his more recent persona 'Raven', and the fact he has more hardcore title reigns than any other wrestler with 27. Does this make him one of the greatest Light Heavies/Cruiser, well that's up to you to decide.
Lenny Lane - The flamboyant Lenny Lane defeated Rey Mysterio for the Cruiserweight Championship in Lubbock, TX, in August 1999. The victory appeared to be just what Lane needed to boost his career into overdrive. But then out of nowhere, WCW stripped Lane of the Cruiserweight Championship without ever giving an explanation. In an equally baffling move, WCW then gave the title to Psicosis - again, without offering explanation.
Shane Helms/The Hurricane - Helms first began wrestling in 1991 at the age of 16, and wrestled in numerous indie promotions winning numerous championships. In 1999, he signed with WCW, and gained fame as "Sugar" Shane Helms, a member of 3 count. During his time there he won both the Hardcore and the Cruiserweight titles. When WCW was bought by the WWE, Helms' contract was kept. Helms renamed himself "The Hurricane" in a superhero gimmick and won the Cruiserweight title. He has the longest reign as Cruiserweight champion.
'Fatt'...I mean Matt Hardy - Matt Hardy wanted to challenge Billy Kidman for his Cruiserweight Championship, but needed to drop 10 pounds in order to be under the weight limit for the division. After weeks of training, Hardy had lost enough weight and the two met at No Way Out. Hardy was accompanied by Shannon Moore, and he turned out to play an integral part in the match. As Kidman was getting ready to go for the Shooting Star Press, Moore stopped him, allowing Hardy to hit a Twist of Fate from the top rope for the pin and his first Cruiserweight Championship.

Now this is a poll worthy of discussion....
I'll have to go with Dean Malenko and on a whim, I'm predicting that he'll reach the finals!
The man was consistently ahead of his time in a generation where he was overshadowed by cheap, adult orientated storylines to be appreciated by the causal fans watching for the n.W.o etc... It's strange really because if you watch any WCW show from the late 90's there was a pool of amazing talent all of whom we're in the Cruiserweight division that oftern opened the shows and most of the time went on to have match of the night.

I agree enigma, of the 8 qualifying groups drawn this one is probably the tightest.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as you said, the talent back in the early to mid 90s was very high.
I'm not sure how the polls will go, looking at the list before I started I was convinced Malenko would go all the way. However seeing how the voting is going I'm not as confident.

I've gone with Shane Helms as his Hurricane character was one that should never have got over yet it worked. As Gregory Helms I felt he had a real chance at being pushed as well, anyone know what he's up to now?

I think he's on the indie circuit Gregers. He's on twitter @ShaneHelmsCom.
