Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The pub has made its way back to London where the victorious British & Irish Lions squad will start their 25 day open bus journey across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland -  being greeted by millions of happy, proud, delirious, tipsy and slightly sunburned rugby fans.

So grab a beer, cider, whiskey or wine.... or a warm beverage and sit back and enjoy their well-earned procession through the streets where it all began.

I think I know why. The two pubs at one end of my local High St. are mainly Cork and Kerry fans so I kind of associate the two.

Well, there have been rumours. But , when I saw it I thought it was the Ravens + a couple of lads....

Well we'd rather beat a full-strength Ulster, but your second string will do...

That's a pity about Ulster's squad. I feel edgier when we play second teams, as we become bigger favourites. I'd also like to have seen how we have improved (if we have) from last season's embarrassment.

I'm sorry lads. I was just responding to Lucky's gentle taunting with some of my own.

 

I have no idea what team we will put out but I would imagine it will be the strongest we can from the players we have available to us just now!

I hope so too, MrsP - although it looks like it's going to rain on Friday. Almost every time we have a home game on a Friday, it rains. I don't know why.

Rev, I saw you got the new away shirt. It sounds like they're selling like hot cakes. I'll have to wait until I come back from holiday to get mine.

Hope all's well. I'm about to watch The Great British Bake Off. Yummo! Looking forward to the start of the season on Friday. Yay!

I can't wait for it all to kick off again, Cari. It's been a long time coming. At least we've had the Lions tour to tide us over, but then that wasn't a universally popular affair...

Yeah, there will be players missing- I think Iain Henderson, Darren Cave, Stuart Olding, Rory Best and Tommy Bowe. Think Gilroy is still injured, Pienaar is still away obviously and I don't think John Afoa will be involved. As well as long-term absentees like Ferris and Wallace. So a fair few key guys missing but all in all we should be pretty strong. Certainly no excuses for us really. We're meant to be building strength in depth so we should be able to cope with that.

My bigger concern is we still look pretty rusty in terms of poor handling and overrunning the pass etc. and a centre partnership that needs time to gel. We can be caught cold before we blow off the preseason rust. How are the Dragons shaping up?

No Toby, but we have cover. We are ok. Bit light at lock maybe, but it could be far worse.

Think that's a bit of a marketing ploy, as they didn't seem too short when I got mine. Glad I got one though.

Evening, amigos. So, the new season kicks off on Friday, the day Mr Puma and I fly off on our hols. I can set the recorder for Leinster's first game on Friday, following week will be a bit problematic. COYBIB.

Didn't Lloyd Webber get into trouble for ripping off some famous composers? I know the dead can't sue*, but their estates might be able to bring some kind of action against him.

I knew you'd know, Notch. I couldn't be bothered to count.  

There are actually 7 notes in an octave as the 8th is the same as the first. however when you add in the 5 sharps and flats you get 12.
As has been pointed out this is in western music. In indian music for example there are more notes in between. This is wby there is very little harmony in Indian music.

Mainly melody and drones.

And, I think most African music has fewer if I remember correctly.

Pentatonic scales, in general. Division of the octave into five is very, very common across many different cultures for some reason. Really nice pentatonics are the ones used in Gamelan, the Pelog and Slendro. Exact tuning tends to vary from instrument to instrument but it sounds divine. The slight differences in pitch from instrument to instrument create this beautiful, rich texture.

Its not necessarily that indian music has more notes, just a different tuning system for those notes. Western classical music is based on equal temperament, Indian classical music uses just intonation. Very different.

The Dubai 7s trip is going to be blydi expensive this year. £1,200!! We are doing an extra night, and it's not a night flight as we've done in the past.

On my side of things, everyone's on board for the Dubai 7s; expensive as it is. We are taking a kiwi* this year. Occasional winners in Dubai, but England and SA have done well there since I've been going.

* This guy has been trained in several of London's finest pubs.

Great time of year to head down there. About 27C and not humid; plus rugby and craic.

Can't wait now it's booked.
