The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Quick message and appeal - does anyone want to take over the Rugby League Twitter account? I have got it started but just have too much on my hands at the moment with link ups etc.
Some BIG announcements coming next week

This annoys me:
"Liquid water is absolutely essential for life," said Dr Lewis Dartnell, astrobiologist at University College London.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14408928
Yes, absolutely essential for life on this planet - but it annoys me that some clearly very bright people assume that it'll be essential for life anywhere else in the cosmos.

Munsty and Rev are big fans, but I don't know if they'll have the time, especially Rev (Service And Security)

Luckless, astrobiologists are well aware of that. They are open to the idea that there may be lifeforms that are based on an entirely different chemsitry.
One problem with that is, would we recognise something as a living organism if we saw it? Quite possibly not if it was entirely different to what we are used to. If it's not a water dependent carbon based organism we probably wouldn't know where to start investigating.
So if we are looking for signs of extra terrestrial life, it is only natural that we look for things that we know have been important to life as we know it. We search based on what we know works, rather than looking everywhere for anything.
It does narrow the search a bit, but it helps, because at least if we find something we can tell if it's alive because it'll be based on a similar construction such as our own.

Thanks for that, Greybeard. If the astrobiologist had added 'as we know it' to his sentence I wouldn't have a problem at all!

I'm just shy around Rev who I was disappointed to learn wasn't actually a priest. I had imagined a rogue warrior military priest

I've been learning from Game of Thrones how the crowned Stag and the Dragon are natural enemies. Explains Revs anti Munster tendencies.

My email off the Universal Life Church Monastery tells me I am a Reverend, so there. Coincidentally I've just discovered I did that exactly two years ago.
This something of Thrones sounds awesome though.

Dreamer told me to read it. I'm only a bit into it. It seems to be paralleling real life. The Stag King is this old bloke who used to be a great warrior and is kinda living off his reputation. The Dragons are kinda under the radar a bit (and IMO are being portrayed as the bad guys). Its all very tense but its gonna kick off on the opening of the Pro 12 (I mean over the next few chapters)
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Cari, I don't think an innocent mind like mine could handle that.
Stag, sounds awesome. I shall look it up.

On a bit of a high here. Beat one of my friends on FIFA by probably the largest margin I've beaten him by.

You would be lucky to get a penalty score line that Penfro. They're solid.

I intentionally haven't watched any of it Penfro. Its rare that I'll get my hands on a top book and be completely unware of the characters or how it ends.

Why don't you play penalties,Munsty? They're a lot harder in Fifa 11.

I dunno. We always have to call it a draw if we finish level with him. I don't get it.
BTW Thomond did I hear your in lurve.

Did you not know about the Kiwi side of Munstys family - he won't go to penalties as he's afraid he'll 'choke'

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Penfro, yeah I'm tired. Still jetlagged but I'm not helping myself by lying in bed all day. A few pints tomorrow will cure it (though it didn't help last night).
I've discovered why my pre-season is so hard. It's being done by one of our ex flankers who once smashed Scott Gibbs when he was in his 97 Lions form (Risca v Swansea, Swalec Cup in the rebel season). The man's a lunatic.

It's only friendlies. Penalties aren't needed to decide who goes through or anything. If neither person has won after normal time, the draw is the right result in my eyes.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Pete did you ever hear the story of the wicked witch who cursed the All Blacks.
In 1995 this evil witch Zoosi put a spell on their food which caused them to choke. Since then every 4 years the spell resurfaces and the team chokes once again
It is said only one truly skilled in the dark arts of the breakdown can break this curse.
