The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of pub regulars. We've got the big group pic from the HEC final in Cardiff, plus insets of ll those who couldn't make it
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Gibbo, with all due respect you don't know a lot about Irish soccer at the moment. You say the rest are plodders, while some of the starting team are the guys not getting their game( Coleman,McCarthy etc) aren't. MicGeady is great at getting past his man. He does FA after that. What good is a winger who runs down blind alleys? I think that is the first time I have seen McGeady put in a cross for Ireland that lead to a goal and the keeper was rubbish for it. McGeady is fast and has a great bag of tricks but is not a winger. Maybe an attacking midfielder but, I will be dead before Trap plays an attacking mid.

I love that phrase 'with all due respect'. A lot of people use it at work when talking to someone who outranks them and it generally translates as 'I think you are talking Poopie'

I do mean it in this case though. Gibbo wouldn't know a lot about the goings on here in Ireland and I wouldn't expect him too.

Was planning a weekend down in Dublin for Leinster/Ulster with a mate. Everything set in stone then I recheck his dates and discover the game is on boxing day. Disaster.

they've flown a flag outside of finals before haven't they though I thought? Am sure they did for the England football last year.
Either way aye a bit OTT, but a nice gesture none the less.

As I say T. At the end of the day. Obviously Brian. A game of two mad phhokin halfs.
Bollox! Don't even attempt to patronise me. I watched Irish football long before you were schittin-yella.
McGeady is Ireland's only link to a higher level.

P.s. Not happy with Hook starting, but then I'm biased anyway!

Bore da pawb / good morning all. So Priestland's out and Hook's in. That worries me slightly, but his goalkicking could be crucial on Saturday.
Glas, you'll have to explain that to me too - if it wasn't for the P and the T it could be a chord progression!

Gibbo, what good is a guy who runs down blind alleys? I would be giving Coleman a shot on the right and Duff a chance on the left. McGeady can take the ball on but does nothing after that. I fail to see how a guy who runs into the corner and does nothing with the ball is an asset to a soccer team. His goal ratio is poor aswell. Something like one in 45 games.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Time for Ireland to abandon 4-4-2 in the soccer?
On the Welsh flag - personally I think they should wait for the final or else have the flag there from the start. Putting it up because Wales made the semi final is a bit patronising.
I really needed that sleep. Went to bed at 8pm. Got up at 10 for about half hour and back to bed til 7.
Feeling very refreshed and ready for the day

I agree with you on the flag, it's very patronising but then to be expected. Sooner we get independence the better [am I allowed to express political views on a rugby forum?]

By the sounds of it, it appears that the Welsh made requests to have this done.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Oh and another question - should Ireland try combine Amhrann na bhFiann with Irelands Call - a bit like the way the SA anthem is 3 songs mashed into one.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I don't think that would work Stag. Also 4-1-2-1-2 is the way to go.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag is right, the flag was put up because a Welsh MP requested Cheryl Gillen to ask the PM. Hardly patrnoising although I do agree it's a bit OTT.
Unsure about Hook starting, but am sure he'll do fine.
Glas, I know about the whole ptc, bdg thing, but why did it mutate after the word hen?

Morning
Got my shirt and Welsh cakes ready for work tomorrow...also have my tickets for the stadium on Saturday. It's such a big occasion, I have to go. I've got another one in case anyone wants to come, but I don't mind going on my Jack Jones anyway
The radio's cool this morning - they've got London Welsh rugby players in and a male voice choir.

good one on the ticket Cari! My cousin offered me a spare but I would need about 5 others as well for one of my best mates and my flat mate and his friends too. Plus, still not actually sure if Hughie is making his way down on the Friday or not - so pub early doors it shall have to be for me!
Ah, I don't mind Tom and Shirley songs really, they're all in good fun. We'll probably have lots of Catatonia, Stereophonis and the Manics on too

Hook is a v good place kicker Rava, so no complaints on that front. Am more worried about him trying to jink his way through the French - Not sure that will work at all!

That formation gives you very limited width. Chelsea played it all last season and look where it got them. Teams need to use the full length and breadth of the pitch if they're to succeed. In FIFA I play the Xmas tree formation, 4-3-2-1. It effectively gives you 3 up front with 2 wingers. I just got sacked from my job at Huddersfield though so hey what do I know?

Pete, you are absolutely right Looks like we'll be going with the minibus optionOzzy3213 wrote:Just looking at the trains, to get into Exeter beofre kick off you would need to get the 14:13 from Bath, which would mean missing the end of the Bath match.
Mick, and so we did, over a or three. And our executive decision is that Hoog will co-ordinate the entire weekend!! Scared now?!Mick(TEFC) wrote:Anyway, Gibbo and Asbo should be sorting this at this very moment.
Just as a reminder, the rough plan is:
Sat 10th Dec 15.40 - Llanelli Scarlets vs Munster
Sun 11th Dec 12.45 - Bath vs Leinster
Sun 11th Dec 17.45 - Exeter Chiefs vs Newport-Gwent Dragons
In all seriousness, if you are interested in attending any part of the weekend (I know that we have Gib, Mick, Kia, Prop, Lucky and Hoog for definite so far), pls can you let Hoog know via FaceAche? It turns out the landlord in my local (Culm Valley Inn) is celebrating 10yrs in the joint with a party on the Sunday evening - it just gets better!!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Good morning all... I hope everyone's fine.
Swanny and Kiwi - good to hear you're both well on the road to recovery. Kenny must be progressing well too... I know he's getting bored of the hospital food!
Quite calm in Sydney - no major dramas, hundreds of little ones apparently but I try not to waste time worrying about anything... even the RWC matches. I'm hoping for a Wales - Wallabies final but wouldn't mind if any of the remaining teams won it - we'd have a more balanced rugby situation with either NZ, Wales... even France winning it.
I've been tired too lately... was reading a book (written in 1944) about adding the times for your day naps... then adding them to your night sleep. I'm clocking up some good hours despite the efforts of the coel bird. It 'sings' just two notes (ooooh aaaah) all day long every 15 seconds of the day. It flies down from eastern Siberia... all the way to a tree outside my bloody bedroom window. It kicks out another bird, steals it's nest and then makes the call in hope of attracting the attention of a female bird which has also flown all the way down!
I've got a feeling the teams will throw absolutely everything at each other this weekend - lots of points, great runs, big hits, counter-attacking play, see-sawing type games... they should be amazing to watch.
