Ashes T2: Lords, Starc and Cowans dropped
First topic message reminder :
Harris and Khwaja in.
Aus's bowling depth is so good that they can drop who was rated to be their top fast bowler without blinking an eyelid.

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
If we can nab Watson and Rogers before lunch, I reckon we'll have them out by the end of the day. But if we let them settle, we could be in for a long day. This is the crucial part of the day now.dyrewolfe wrote:Lets hope Jimmy and Stuart can do some damage early on. A wicket or two before lunch would be a huge boost for England.

Anderson on the money straight away. A maiden over and nearly has Watson caught.

Man this weather. I'm off to get roof bars fitted so I can buy a kayak later, keep renting them.
I fear i'll be struggling to find space on the water. Going to have to take a radio to keep in touch with this tomorrow and sunday.

Is it time to trot out the Anderson v Steyn bickering or does he need a couple of wickets first?

I had a feeling about Watson. It's very different to englands early innings, maybe a bit like Cook though. Gets off to a fluent start but then is vulnerable.
some good bowling.

Watson is very much the Mark Ramprakash of Australian cricket. Massive talent, superb technique, not able to hold it together mentally. What a shame for the Aussies

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
It really was a poor review from Australia. Watson missing a straight ball while playing across, and to add to Australia's sense of loss, he wasted a review as well.

He was a plumb as you can get but still wastes a review.
It's like his ego is to big for the team

To all the Bresnan detractors:
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Massive wicket just before lunch from super Tim, to get out one of Australia's premier batsman. What a waste of a review as well. England on top!

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
England's morning now though - terrible start but Broad and Swann got them up to an OK-ish score, then the Aussies got through the expected tough first few overs and then suddenly gift us a wicket immediately before lunch.
Pop another one out soon after the restart and we will be starting to get some control of the game. Big turn around after the first hour yesterday...

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
Lets not buy Trundle Tim a medal yet. Shane Watson's strength is his weakness, he can be incredible leg-side, playing Round the ball, but the law of averages dictates he will miss it sooner or later, and his average suggests its usually thd former

Lets not forget Watson is actually an all-rounder in disguise, just playing at being an opener.
I don't recall if Ramps did any bowling, but if he did he probably wasn't as good as Watto.
In any case, a vital breakthrough. Could have done with one more before lunch but its a start.

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
you do wonder how Watson thought it was worth reviewing that: he's nowhere near it, so can't think he's hit it. He's hit in front of middle-and-off, so surely didn't think he got outside the line, and the ball's crashing into leg stump. I always think a batsman should know what he's reviewing rather than reviewing in hope, particularly if he's one of the first to fall (tactical reviews lower down are more understandable).
turned it into a decent morning for England in the end, inspired move by Cook to get Bresnan into the attack.
Having said that the ball's done very little since the first 4 or 5 overs, the pitch looks good for batting, so England will have to bowl very well and work very hard this afternoon you feel.

I was talking about batting only, but the temperament comparison is there. Watson is more than capable of putting big scores on the board, he just never seems to get them. He'll look back on his Test career and wonder how he didn't score 25 hundreds.dyrewolfe wrote:Lets not forget Watson is actually an all-rounder in disguise, just playing at being an opener.
