On what earth is Bale worth £105million, which is what today's headlines are screaming? Even in today's hyper-inflated market, he's surely worth no more than 50-60 million?
Anyway, even at £105 million, Tottenham have left it far too late to get replacements in. Hold fire for another year is surely Tottenham's best bet. Just think, one more good season and Bale will probably be worth £150 million plus.

Tbf, the rumored offer of 51m plus Di Maria and Coentrao was an nbelievable offer. They get one of the best wingers in the world to come and fill Bale's hole, get an outstanding LB in Coentrao who I rate as probably in the top 3 left backs in the world.
51m to get a striker and another 20m to spend on whoever. Still, suppose 51m isn't too bad, just a shame we won't see Bale in the prem next year. May see Ronaldo though...

Bale isn't worth 100 odd million as just a footballer, but to Spurs, that is what he is worth. And at the end of the day they hold all the cards here

So it's £7m, rising to £9m for Gomis. Not ecstatic at the signing but at least we have not gone and followed the trend of most sides by blowing all our money on ridiculous release clauses. Be interesting to see how he does, can't see him coming anywhere near to the standard Demba Ba set at the club. Also, no point signing him without complementing him with some creativity on the wings. Finally Kinnear has woken up at least.

Doncaster sign Ritchie Wellens from Leicester - Good signing, knows this league well and is a former donny player.
Bradford sign Matt Taylor from Charlton - Always good to have an experienced center back and he knows this league very well.
Portsmouth sign Bondz N'Gala from Stevenage - Good signing, there squad is looking good for next season.

I think if Madrid get bale and they are not completely sure that Ronaldo will sign new deal that big bid would tempt them

Gomis is a beast, I think he'll do well in the Premier League. Knows how to finish too.
As for Bale, Tottenham are getting two players (assuming it's Di Maria and Coentrao) with high wages and are unwanted. There's no top quality players who would want to join Spurs so from their point of view there's no point selling him. If they could get Rooney though...

Gomis is big....yeah, a beast.....not sure about that one. Seen him plenty of times over the years in Champions League & Europa and was not that impressed. I would hope he knows how to finish, seeing as he's a striker. I'm not having a go at your post onlytreblewinners but I just don't understand why we pay a fee rising to £9m for Gomis and yet pulled out of a deal to sign Bony at just £12m. He's a more naturally gifted finisher, quick and more importantly aged just 24. Gomis is 28 in August, not much of a sell-on value at all. Just glad we've got someone in, absolute toss of a coin whether he succeeds. If we create no chances for him, like we were doing at the end of last season, then he's in for a tough job. Hoping the Remy deal can be concluded soon.
Thought AVB wanted to give Danny Rose a real chance this year at left-back. Don't see the point in bringing in Coentrao on his wages. Di Maria is so inconsistant and infuriating to watch, no wonder Real have had enough. Why would Rooney want to join Spurs? Makes no career or financial sense at all in joining Spurs and would spell the end of his medal collection.

It's £25m thought they would of just added him to the Bale deal tbh, Di Maria would be a stubborn **** id expect and not go.
Spurs are apparently trying to replace him with Nani for about 12m

Gomis has done it for Lyon for a long time, he is a proven player and I would bet anything he succeeds at Newcastle. Bony is more of a risk as he hasn't done it in any significant league, although he was awesome for Swansea last night.

I hope your right regarding Gomis, just think we need Remy to complement him and then if Pardew uses the 4-3-3 we can have Gomis up top with Remy & Ben Arfa supporting either side with Cabaye, Sissoko & Tiote as our midfield three. On paper that line-up looks strong but reality is somewhat different. Yeah, Bony looks a very good player.
No idea why Spurs would want Coentrao. Give Danny Rose and some English talent some backing, looked to have gained alot of confidence from his loan spell and showed improvement. Yeah, Fernando agree regarding Di Maria, bad attitude. Watching him play is infuriating and then seeing him dive on the floor time and time again is disgraceful. Can't see him leaving Madrid, it's a big step down to Spurs and Europa League football and the World Cup is just around the corner.

Luis Suarez will consider submitting a formal transfer request and the possibility of court action if his Liverpool dispute is not resolved, say sources close to the player.
The 26-year-old believes Arsenal's bid of just over £40m triggered a clause in his contract that allows him to leave.

Is it hard to read his contract?
Surely one side of this is going to look really incompetent come the end of it although based on previous Liverpool & Suarez legal dealings then all sides have probably balls'd up.

Apparently Suarez wanted a 40m release clause to a CL club, Liverpool refused. So the 40m can talk to a club was put in formally and Suarez thought he had a verbal agreement that it would still act as a release clause or something.

It is understood that when Suarez signed a new contract in August 2012, he requested a clause that allowed him to depart if Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League and received a bid in excess of £40m
Liverpool refused this but suggested an arrangement that obliged them to act in good faith if those conditions were met, which Suarez argues he only accepted because he felt there was verbal agreement from all parties that - despite the new wording - it would work in the same way as a release clause.

No I can't blame him for leaving at all Nando. He's genuine quality, no doubt. He's obviously an ungrateful piece of sh!t for wanting to leave a club that's bent over backwards defending his petulance for the past 18 months but it's his life after all.
I'd like to see him gone myself and let him become Arsenal's problem because he WILL be a problem at whatever club he ends up at.
He will undoubtedly get CL football at the Emirates. But nothing else.

Whilst his top class i can't say im particularly delighted to see him heading our way, although Mr Wenger seems to do well at managing temperaments as RVP was a complete **** and was nearly in jail before his career began but is now is clean and narrow and doing fairly well for himself.
That being said im still expecting a last ditch Real Madrid bid if Ronaldo is sold on which seems to be suggested for around 80m before his contract runs down.

Your age showing there Nando. Wengers record with dealing with temperaments in the late 90's/early 00's was embarrassing.
Suarez will do a sterling job for your lot in the 28 games a season he'll be available for selection.

A couple of examples Chris: Patrick Vieira spat on a player (Neil Ruddock) and Emmanuel Pettit pushed a referee.
Both were excused by the professor afterwards. No idea how that made the team better myself.
Of course he made the best of what he had and did an admirable job in doing so.
But lets not kids ourselves by believing that he will make Suarez an angel. The seed was planted years ago. Little Luis' was born broken.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread....Continued.....CONTINUED
Alas, my point remains, he will look back and see the titles. Whether they crossed boundaries (they clearly did) he probably didnt mind because that fire won them titles. Managing characters, even if it means there are problems, its mainly results. He'll have dealt with them privately, but if excusing them publicly was what he believed was better for his squad then its management.

not sure he managed them at all he just gave them free reign, easy saying this helped win titles, but think the amount of top class player he had, had much more to do with this than how he disciplined his players. with the titles he won he also has plenty of records for having the worst discipline teams during in premiership history
wenger has been a great manager but cant have that he's some kind of master man manager by letting the players get away with all sorts on the pitch (he did turn around the clubs imagine/attitude off it though as when he first came in there was a big drinking culture with the likes of merson and adams)

That's very much a backtrack from a few days ago when it was very much a categorical 100% he's not moving to a 'the balls in his court', having him as sub last night probably didn't help Barca's case.

as regards to suarez you have to laugh (well as a united fan i do if i was a liverpool fan id want to lynch him!) Liverpool stupidly stood by him during the evra incident then the bite as well as plenty of other occasions he's embarrassed himself.
i think you could understand if he was pushing through to a top club like bayern, barca or real but arsenal are not far off what liverpool are. he's turning his back on the club for challenging top 4?? id get rid, anything 40 mil for everything that comes with him is a decent deal

But Arsenal, with Suarez and a couple more additions, could actually push for the title or a cup.
They have been missing a 20-30 goal a year striker, and Suarez will get that no problems.

if he's not suspended for half the season
also there's no guarantee that he will be as successful at a new club, torres being the prime example.
would also say he's a 20-30 goal a season striker is stretching it seeing though he has only got 20+ in one season in the prem. he has in the ducth league as well but they don't know what defending is. just ask alfonso alves

The Alfonso Alves argument is one I hate in football. Why does it always get dragged out about any player who has ever played in the Dutch League but there's never a mention about RVN, Bergkamp, Persie etc. it's one of the laziest arguments to just categorise all players from one league based upon one previous player. Do Spanish fans think all defenders from the Premier League are as pants as Woodgate based on his time at R.Madrid?

i can also throw you kuyt who scored 29 goals!! and kezman as well if you like. berkamp (who was abit special) got mid 20's but that was a much tougher league with much better players so not worth comparing early 90's! . dont remember RVP scoring at all in the dutch league so not sure why you brought him up, he left at a young age. ruud was the only one who bagged consistently in the league and was also a major success in this country

To be fair, the Dutch league is definitely weaker and theres more than one example of that proving true. I think if foreign fans were to talk about signing English players they would be quite rightly skeptical if you look at how many have failed abroad. Doesnt mean each one will, but these examples are gonna come up.
FWIW, I dont think Arsene is a master man manager, but I dont think hes bad at it either (which is what I was arguing against).

would also point to the terrible defence holland national team have had for a fair few years. cant be much in the league pushing for places. you know its bad when you need van bommel and de jong in the same team to protect them

be interesting to see how bony does this season as another dutch top scorer coming in, do think swanseas style will make adjusting a lot easier than if he went to other clubs

It's wrong though to base EVERY striker that comes through the Dutch league upon Alves or Kezman which is such a tired argument. For every poor one there's an equally as good one. Perhaps players should be judged on individual talent rather than lumping them in a pot?
