Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
In other news, Louis Saha has retired on his 35th birthday. He's the third highest scoring Frenchman in Premier League history with 85 goals, behind only Henry and Anelka.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Newcastle, based on predictions above are going to finish 13-15.
I do hope your wrong and think you will. The squad shouldn't have such injury worries this year, minus Europa League football and has strengthened in buying Remy. We finished 5th two years ago, agree was a fluke but the quality is there. Think people are just being overly negative in terms of our squad and being delusional about the supposed big impact of some of the new signings that clubs have made around us.
I'm predicting
1. Chelsea
2. Man City
3. Man Utd
4. Arsenal
5. Spurs
Newcastle 7th - 9th region.
relegated - Palace, Hull and the either Stoke or Cardiff.

The signing of Remy seems to have really turned your mood around John. Not long ago you were predicting a tough season for your lot. One signing doesn't change that for me.
Also not convinced about Pardew at all. Has a habit of one good season, which he can't replicate again

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Yeah I was but nothing can be as worse as last year in terms of injuries and the situation and demand on the squad has changed & is nowhere near what it was last year. The January signings have the experience of last year + Remy is a good addition. Vital Pardew gets the formation right though, agree he made some negative decisions last year, hopefully he's learnt. First six games crucial for Pardew, otherwise can see Kinnear in Ashley's ear. Top 8 finish must be the target.

Very difficult. Basically midtable could be in any order and I dont really think we'll finish 9th. I just kept comparing us 1 on 1 against teams and thinking we could finish above them.

I can see Chelsea winning the league, Utd getting a top four, with Arsenal coming second. Normally one of the promoted clubs seems to have a good season but I can see all of them struggling, along with Norwich and Sunderland.

Are you a Newcastle fan? I love your positive outlook on Remy, think he'll do well but not that well. I would go for Dzeko personally. Pellegrini has shown him the love and has confidence in him, unlike Mancini. Dzeko is a classy finisher, totally under-valued and unappreciated and City are going to be playing more attacking, entertaining football this year. I haven't gone for RVP because I think he may get injured along the way this year.TheCultOfPersonality wrote:Top scorer: Think it maybe someone different this year, Benteke or Remy me thinks

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Haha no i'm not a newcastle fan but I do reckon he'll do very well for the Magpies and will be up there amongst the top scorers as long as he avoids injuries and gets good service from the likes of Ben Afra. Think they will have a good season. In regards to Dzeko, he will get goals but so will the likes of Aguero, Negredo and Jovetic. I can see Pellegrini doing a lot of rotation between the four.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Yeah, that was my only worry issue with Dzeko and the rotation. Usually though, one of the strikers stamps their authority on the side and then becomes too important to drop. I don't think Negredo is anywhere near Dzeko's level.

I'll give you one per week for the Nodge Freeky.
Not sure on this week though, if you fancy an anytime goalscorer, stick a quid on Redmond this week I reckon.
Bit cold turkey though, not got anything to go off haha

Delighted that the Premier League is back, good to see the Liverpool game on first, so can watch three games.
Will probably watch Norwich/Everton and then Manchester United/Swansea, although will switch over to Athletics to see 200m final probably.

To be fair, it's so difficult to judge from about 6th downwards these days.

Have all three promoted sides ever been relegated together the next season?

Very true. Last season the difference in points between 8th and 16th was a mere 8 points.Crimey wrote:To be fair, it's so difficult to judge from about 6th downwards these days.

Two out of the three went down in 95 when four teams got relegated and only two came up as they changed the Prem from 22 to 20 teams and one of them was 4th bottom too. Bolton were one of the two to come up and went straight back down.Stella wrote:Have all three promoted sides ever been relegated together the next season?
97-98, Barnsley, Bolton and Palace all went down. 2 out of three went down in 98-99.
Think since then the promoted sides have done really well with two out three going down four times.
