Agree with cfcnick. People will just compare last seasons result with benitez but this team is still gelling and getting used to mourinho`s tactics. yeah it might look negative but its United's first home game, you could easily go to old Trafford and attack and end up losing by two or three, as is united`s potential quality. Mourinho didn't want to lose to a rival, keep the unbeaten run going, keep confidence high and move on to future battles at more pivotal parts of the season where he and his squad will be at one with another. Moyes first home game, never wanted to lose either, therefore recipe for a tactical footballing borefest, such as what we saw.

And imagine if that was Benitez in charge and Chelsea had played that negatively, they'd be burning effigies of him in West London all night.

Chelsea fans have very short memories, when it's a previous manager who was forced out the club anything is acceptable, quickly forgetting he's not even where he wanted to be.Hero wrote:And imagine if that was Benitez in charge and Chelsea had played that negatively, they'd be burning effigies of him in West London all night.

Ah yes i'm getting myself a bit confused, but regardless of an error of timing on my part the point still stands. At all the teams he's managed despite supreme talent and unlimited resources he sets his teams up very defensively once the going gets tough, he's good at it but when you look at the teams he's managed his stature gets blown out of all proportion.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Reflections on Spurs' start - Last season with a number of new players they had two points from their first three games. This year - six points from two.
The midfield looks very strong. They hunted in packs against Swansea and won a lot of 50-50 tackles which is not something that was happening last season.
Soldado was isolated up front, though, and Spurs, as they did last season, might find it easier playing away from home where they can counter-attack.
It's still going to be very difficult for Spurs to make the top four, particularly if Liverpool are added to the City/Untd/Arsenal/Chelsea/Spurs mix.

Bale has failed to report to Spurs training this morning, disgusting behaviour as his still under contract at Spurs, has the man no respect for the club that has turned him into the player he is today?
Real Madrid know the price tag if they can't find the money then they need to be told where to go.

Boaz Myhill. Currently on his way back from a hand injury. Starting training this week, so #3 keeper Luke Daniels will start against Newport in the league cup, then probably the next league game as well.
Daniels has been with us for 9 years, and only made his debut when he came on for Foster at the weekend
Shame for England though, Hart looking shocking, Foster looking excellent. Chance for Butland, Ruddy and Stockdale now. Possible Carson and Green too.

Time for Big John to take back his rightful number 2 slot, after it was taken away from him by injury last season

Foster's a much better keeper Olly, don't be daft
But Ruddy is the #3 I reckon. Comfortably.

I genuinely believe Ruddy is a better keeper than Foster.

That's because you're a Norwich fan. I've been a Ben Foster fan since long before he signed for Albion. He's a better shot stopper than Hart, and at the moment, commands his box better too.

Admittedly I don't see Foster every week, but when I have seen him play, he looks very shaky to me, and is always prone to a great error. I could just be a bad omen for him, if so I'll never watch a WBA game again Azzy

Im a big fan of both keepers, but if i had to choose i would probably rather see Foster in goal for England.

Also prefer Ruddy to Foster. Foster makes more mistakes than Green ever did, yet never gets the focus. Good keeper, likely to not let anyone down if he were to play, but I think Ruddy has a higher ceiling.

Never rated him. Okay keeper playing in a very poor league, made to look good. He'd need two years in the PL with consistent form to even get near Ruddy and Foster. The Terror of Tylorstown wrote:Surprised Forster never gets a mention.

Bale...
Will Arsernal indirectly get the benefit.
It seems as though Madrid didnt have cash and could only do a players plus cash deal.
Totenham only want cash.
Will arsernal get benzema and dimaria (scuse spelling) cheapish on the back of madrid needing the funds?

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Well if its tottenham stalling why haven't we heard about a cash only deal from madrid?
Its clear Tottenham will not take any non cash deal..
personally i think they should swallow the pride and try and modric plus 60. What modric offered realistically isn't much different than bale..
Tottenham have finishers(defoe and the soldado) and modric will give them service.
But then how can I talk for the owners- they clearly hate modric. But then we all know how quickly boards and managers and players change there minds in recent years(rooney, tevez, suarez, etc). If modric came back willing to play with a great attitude(which i would suspect he would) whats the problem?
What would you prefer 60m and modric
or G bale..
Its a no brainer for me.

Pani Cabaye time? Pardew expects Yohan to play against Fulham. We are in such a dire situation, that no matter what he's done, said or refused to play, we will happily bring him back into the first team with open arms.

Three back to back draws for Everton? I don't think that will happen, I reckon they will nick a 1-0 win at Cardiff.
Also, I predict a win for Newcastle. 3-1.
