will England finally change the batting around?

will the stop picking their favourites and give the obvious choices like Onions at home a chance? (Though Bresnan and broads bowling here would suggest not, show sweat I know).

Bowling's not been great this innings, but they can't bail out the batsmen everytime.

You don't win many test matches making 240 in your first innings, on what was a pretty good batting day

TMS slating England. warner playing would have seen aussie win the first two tests.

We just can't build pressure here. I could accept 160-2 if it was off say 60 overs, but they have been rattling along at 4 an over all day. Aussies know this is in the bag now bar a major **** up.

Might as well give Root a bowl at Warner, just for the craic. This match is lost anyway.

Huge wicket, snick Smith out quickly here and we've got a slight chance.

Warner out. Hanging on by our fingernails to this, still a small chance to win it.

If England could get Clarke today, the game situation would become one of less advantage Australia. If they get another one today, then it'll be advantage England, just a little bit.

Whatever the outcome here I want changes for the final Test. Bairstow out, Root back to 6. Not keen on Compton to open, an out of form Cook and Compton too turgid for me so Chopra or Carberry.

Bowling Jimmy needs a rest so Onions in for him. Possibly Finn for Bresnan too (risky but we need some pace in the attack).

Surely England are favourites to win now.

Clarke and Smith followed by Watson with a pulled groin(no runner allowed) and Haddin.

Onions broke his finger today so is unlikely to be fit for the next test.

I read that earlier but still put him in my armchair selector team - d'oh! That's not good, poor old Jimmy needs a break but if we don't have a close replacement I would imagine he will play

The knee jerkers above crack me up. Even if we cant win this game its as close as games come. Isn't that what we want!!

It doesn't hold weight saying how good OZ are but how bad Eng are.The teams are just matched this test!! Its a thriller in Manilla!

Agree but that doesn't mean we should ignore issues - we want to improve and be number one. Main issue to address is being not many for 3 all the time.

This is top stuff from Broad. Fast, aggressive, targetting the stumps with a touch of reverse swing. Come on Stu, get on that roll.

I just think the lads(batters) have had a bad series.. Cook, KP and trott are just so much better. I also think siddle and harris are so underrated and have come on bundles!

the tail isn't as strong as recent games  so they know he is their match winner.

 

didn't expect agent Smith to feel the pressure like that at all. He's a bit of a Bairstow. Capable of more but making technical mistakes.

Its not wholesale changes for me just remove Bairstow who doesn't look ready yet and get Root out of the firing line into the middle order. Both will be back in time. Bring in an in form opener and see how they do - I personally like Carberry as a player (not too old either, look at Rogers)

Similar with the bowlers, rest tired bowlers, the schedule for these Tests is a brute.

 I have to agree with Root down and Bairstow in.

I'm not sure if Trott needs county time too.

And i'd play Onions at Durham if we could do this again and rest Jimmy.

Fantastic from Broad, but the umpiring has been ridiculously inconsistent. The current state of natural light cant possibly be better than it was yesterday...

You can't blame Watson for reviewing this time. With Siddle at 8 he really needed to take the chance there.

In the time its taken me to get home from work, Australia have lost 4 wickets for about 20 runs.

Suddenly England scent victory and suddenly our bowlers look as dangerous as we know they can be.

I would say they have a tail in this match, certainly by modern standards where you don't really expect absolute rabbits with the bat. 8 and 9 who can bat a bit then a pretty weak 10 and 11. Nothing like as good as Agar - Pattinson - Starc - Siddle.

Haddin still there, Siddle.. Harris.

70-30 aussie with so few runs to get.

Broad is super aggressive today- Really on the up..And the calls for him to be dropped before this game!! Oh my days.. I cant imagine what would have happened..
