Foden at 10 for england?
Just thought I would carry on the vogue of discussing moving fullbacks to flyhalf....
Foden can spot a gap and has the acceleration to go through it no problem. Strong in contact he can ensure the ball is recycled, as he used to play scrumhalf he surely has good enough distribution. He has a pretty big punt on him, why not?

Re: Foden at 10 for england?
1. Can he kick from hand?
2. Does he have a death wish?
3. Will Toby Flood now have permanent black eyes?
If the answer to all of these is yes, then I'm all for it.

Re: Foden at 10 for england?
I think under the new rules he'd do a crackin job at prop...
Ok being serious...
No let him and Brown, two cracking players, fight it out for the FB spot and let two crackin young 10's with very different skills in Farrell and Burns fight it out for the 10 shirt....
Simples...

Re: Foden at 10 for england?
Maybe there is an arguement around reaction times...
Floody stands close up as he likes to attack from a flat position, this requires a quicker eye & decision making process as he gets very little time on the ball.
Foden as a FB gets, in comparison a lot more time to think about what he is doing. Apart from a well chased high ball obviously. Can he perform as well closer to the gain line? Is this something that can be taught? Or is it instictiveness?

I think England have done enough experimenting playing players out of position. We have lots of very good players for all positions. Lets hope Lancaster blends a good team out of them. I feel there is the potential to build a really excellent one.

Ben Foden at 10? You will be saying that Mike Brown should play on the wing next!
No.No.No. Foden is a full back simple as that. We (England) have plenty of talent at 10. Farral, Burns, Flood.
So No, leave Foden at 15.

Re: Foden at 10 for england?
Didn't Foden leave Sale because he wanted to play 9 regularly? I would have thought that would be the position he would most likely fill after 11, 14, and 15.

Staggered at the number of people taking the OP seriously, when even he was not.
Any way, you have missed the most obvious choice.
Jordan Crane. As an ex soccer player he has a good boot and can kick goals under pressure. his handling has improved out of sight and he likes to stand on the gain line - which apparently is what we all want.
So it starts here - Jordan Crane for 10.

Crane, solid carrier, got decent hands, he'd certainly shore up the defence in the 10 channel. Why not?

And he has silly bleached hair, so must be a back - surely?

Didnt Crane successfully take a high pressure penalty kick once?

To win a HC semi-final no less, in sudden death.
Chuck him in I say.
9. Foden
10. Crane
Pace, power, distribution, defence and a kicking game thats imperious under the highest of pressure.

You coud wap Mako Vunipolla into the inside centre berth, he would be pretty useful for the crash ball stuff.

This is heading towards a 'forwards as backs' and 'backs as forwards' team selection

Re: Foden at 10 for england?
Anyway, we have done that before.
Danny Cipriani always gets selected as hooker. For some reason people seem to like the idea of him traopped in the middle of a scrum.

Re: Foden at 10 for england?
If Billy V is at 12 we should probably put Croft at 13 to do his tackling for him. he also has the pace and step and ability to throw a shocking offload that most 13s have now.You wouldn't want to be running at those "backs" would you?

Who's going to do Croft's tackling? Robshaw and Wood on the wings?yappysnap wrote:If Billy V is at 12 we should probably put Croft at 13 to do his tackling for him. he also has the pace and step and ability to throw a shocking offload that most 13s have now.You wouldn't want to be running at those "backs" would you?

Sure Croft should be on the wing, after all he spends most his time there anyway.miaow wrote:Who's going to do Croft's tackling? Bloody hell, at this rate we'll be pulling Joe Worsley out of retirement to play 15 and cover those two!miaow wrote:Who's going to do Croft's tackling? Re: Foden at 10 for england?
Joe Worsely is an international cente (well technically only when its a defensive scrum), and did a pretty good job of it too if I remember correctly.yappysnap wrote:Bloody hell, at this rate we'll be pulling Joe Worsley out of retirement to play 15 and cover those two!miaow wrote:Who's going to do Croft's tackling?
