Welcome to Season 6 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 20 players. Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1991.
Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on its own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
Structured Window
No cash will be used and each team will get effectively free transfers by way of a draft, which will run 12th, 11th, 10th …… 1st, 12th, 11th,10th… 1st place side. This will run from 10th June 2013 until all teams have had their two picks.
Open Window
Open transfer window, teams have unlimited bids provided they have the financial resources to cover them. Teams may only bid for one player at a time.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Saturday. Managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result. To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box. If you are not providing a descriptive prediction you will be restricted to predicting a 1 point win either way.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
At least 10 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Guys with Lawes and Parisse leading the lines now at their clubs, is that going to stop my lineout issues being such a problem?

Also sounds like Newcastle were excellent in defence v Sale last night and deserved their win - great for them to get an away win after the week before.
Anyone know what games are on today?
Channel swim got cancelled as the winds were too strong, had one boat go out and they got to within 2 hours of France and couldn't physically swim forward due to the winds pushing them back.

I might be wrong Chris but I'd bet money that Christian Day is in charge of the Saints lineout.

That;s what I thought, but Mallinder said last week that Lawes was now and Lawes had an interview this week saying the same and that he actually led England's lineout in Argentina.

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
Great game ruined by poite and his team. BDP so unlucky. Sa have the 2 best hookers in the world so if he is banned at least they have back up.
BDP is on a different planet to every other hooker. Probably as good as I have ever seen. In the Fitzpatrick bracket.
Most saffers have an issue with pienaar at 9 and you can see why as he slows the game to much in terms of moving the ball. I am a pienaar fan but I don't think he fits the way SA want to play

Pretty sure Day runs the line, Lawes isn't bright enough to run it.
Pienaar was pretty bad today.

Article on Lawes leading lineouts - would be good to see if he can add a bit more to his game as he stalled a bit over last 18months with injuries and needs to be more than just athletic and be able to put in big hits.
Makes a good point with Alex King as Saints coach, amazed England never tried to get him involved.

I hope lawes cracks on and emerges as a proper England player. I don't think parling adds much to England as he offers zero physicality

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
If he can start to lead the line he'd be an interesting cadidate.
If he has done it for Saints he needs testing through the season.
I must admit I'm not a fan, I think he's a bit brainless.

Pooly think you missed out "fly halves" there too - just ask Toby Flood! There was a youtube clip of a hit he put in during pre-season and just left the Bedford no10 in a crumpled heap. He'd probably be the last person I'd want to tackle me in the AP.

Sarries look like they will take some stopping this season. I know Gloucester were a man down the whole game and at one point had another in the sin bin, but Sarries are just ruthless.
I'm a lot happier with London Irish than at this stage last season. Despite losing 'big names' we look a lot more together as a team. I reckon we'd have lost yesterdays game this time last year, but the team look to be playing for each other a bit more now. Massive game at the MadStad against the Chiefs next weekend.

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
You'll beat Chiefs if you stop them at the breakdown, we didn't quite do that yesterday and their defence was brilliant. We had the better of them but just couldnt break their defence until final 10 minutes.
Yarde has been awesome for you so far.
Reckon Bath will get 4th place this year, or maybe even edge Tigers into 3rd. Between Sarries and Saints this year - reckon Saints have better starting XV now, but overall squad must be Sarries.

Agree with you there mate, bigger squads make all the difference now - don't think Gloucester or Quins have big enough depth - reckon any of those you have 4-8 could finish in 4th as all can beat each other and just need a good run.

yeh they did matt, but it was inevitable sarries pack would just wear you down eventually.
saw the itv4 highlights last night, Yarde is on fire.
Tom james scored couple good tries too. Helped by some awful attempts at tackling by Wasps no.12, is it Charlie Hayter? he had a stinker.

The Wasps 12 made iHumph look Brad Barritt in defence!!!
Yarde is flying at the moment. He has the potential to be top class. He seems pretty level headed and I can see him just completely knuckling down and continuing to improve. I just pray that we can keep hold of him.

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
we are announcing some renewals today or tomorrow but i doubt it will be Yarde.
More likely to be Ojo, Geraghty, Aulika etc which would be good but Yarde is no.1 priority!
i understand Yarde will want to compete at a high level aka Heineken cup but he is getting England recognition with us and i think could do with a couple more years here to keep improving. grass isnt always greener.

I'd bloody love him at Falcons, I think he's quality.
We've got a lad called Kibridge coming through who's fantastic, hopefully see him in the U20's this year.

last season he was quality but didnt score enough tries. this season he has already matched the number of AP tries he got last season!
Anthony Watson is looking good for Bath. He never really convinced me last season at Irish but playing behind a better pack will help him. Certainly has talent.

Yeah I think Marland is likely to wait a bit before thinking about signing a contract extension. If getting towards Christmas we are mid table somewhere then I think he may well give us another couple of years, but if we are looking like there is even the slightest chance of going down then I can see him opting out as he has to be targetting RWC 2015 and playing Championship rugby next season is not going to get him there.

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
I don't know, it's all about getting some momentum. If you look at the table Gloucester and Worcester are winless and have tough games against Saints and Quins this week so could conceivably both be 0 from 3 come next Monday morning.
A home win from us against the Chiefs (which will be tough but not impossible) and we are 8 points clear of those guys. Falcons are away at Welford Road, where I don't see them getting aything, and Wasps are also winless at this stage and go to Sale this week, so there are plenty of teams floating around who could be dragged into the dogfight early doors. We have a real opportunity to give ourselves a bit of a cushion this week.

I can't see Irish finishing ahead of Wasps, Gloucester etc.
4/5th bottom would be a good achievement for Irish or Falcons imo

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
yeh I'd take that for sure.
wasps could get dragged in to the fight. they lose a few players to injury and they could struggle. who is there back up 10 to Goode?
fixture list is kind to us this year. we play saints and tigers during the A.I's which is useful.

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
I never said we'd finish above them, just that we have a chance to put some daylight between ourselves early doors. I am aware that depth will end up hurting us at some point, but the key is to get some early momentum. If we can do that and be in a decent position come the end of the AI's, then we have the cushion of being able to afford a slump as and when injuries hit. 5th from bottom is 8th place, which is mid table. The key to keeping players like Yarde will be the points totals rather than position I expect, with the question being are we closer to challenging the group above us or getting dragged into the group below.

4th bottom would be a decent return then, top of the strugglers is pretty good.
The next group are a bit ahead imo, Gloucester/Wasps/Exeter etc

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
As I put above, I think come next May we'll finish 10th, and those 3 you mention will be 6th, 7th and 8th in the table.
I've got Worcester for the drop. They will have been targetting Saturday for the win and to lose it as they did has to have a psychological effect. I also see that dean Ryan has been out blaming the referee, which for me is the worng way to go, as I can see them getting the wrong end of 50/50 calls as a result, and if he's blaming the ref then he's not really addressing the issues in the squad.
Falcons showed on Friday that they have some dog in them, and we showed that we have some firepower. I'm not sure what Worcester have shown in their two games really.

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
I thought Worcester would be ok but losing Mullen & Kvesic could be big for them. I think they'll get better once new signings have settled in.
It was a HUGE win for us in the bigger picture. It showed we can beat those close to us away from home and will give the team some self belief.
I think we'll only get better with Clegg coming in and Lobo will give us steel upfront. Our depth is pretty good and we don't get hit to hard in the AI/6N. Can see us getting a beating next week mind.

To be fair you'll not be the first and certainly won't be the last to get a beating at Welford Road mate. I went up there to watch us a couple of seasons ago and we got seriously humped!
I think we've got you first game after the European break. That will be a massive game for both teams as well.

Nick, can't see Wasps being dragged into a dog fight at all - we should have won both our opening games and would have done if we took our chances.
Issue at the moment is that Young is picking the wrong centre combinations, have to play Masi there and get Tommy Bell playing at fb while Daly and Southwell are injured - our centre combos are stopping a lot of attacks at the moment.
Missing Vunipola though - AJ has stepped up but could probably do with Haskell playing as well. Though Thompson and Jackson both started well for us.
See that Wood has been reported as the new England captain on a permanent basis.

you were 30-12 down against the Chiefs, cant really see that as a game you should of won.
you could of won at Quins but they were the better side on the balance of play.
i dont think you will be in a relegation battle, but if you had some bad luck with injuries you could struggle.

Re: Season 6 Homepage I
We missed tackles for their tries, but had the better of them for large parts of the game - momentum shifted massively last 15 minutes and if the game had gone on for another 5mins then we'd have won. Poor tackling and great Exeter defence stopped us - but we had so many chances we messed up.
We'd struggle if we lost some of our front row, only area we don't have more depth really - no where near as strong as Saints/Tigers/Bath are in that area, but compared to 2 seasons ago where we werehaving to loan players from Championship just to make a match day squad of 23 its been a big improvement for us.
Just wish we got a top class player in who would have made a big difference for us.
