He was fighting Floyd Mayweather.Mayweathers cellmate wrote:Why did Alvarez give away the first six rounds so easily? was he weight drained or did he just have a terrible game plan?
The same reason Klitchsko's opponents always look like they aren't trying.

He was fighting Floyd Mayweather for the last six rounds too, where he actually decided to do something.
The Klitschko analogy is good. At least Derek Chisora put it on VK for 12 rounds. What was Canelo doing letting the best boxer on the planet dictate the fight off the front foot. So much for using ODLH's blueprint.

I think Canelo was weight drained and was also using the wrong tactics of trying to counter floyd.Mayweathers cellmate wrote:He was fighting Floyd Mayweather for the last six rounds too, where he actually decided to do something.

The weight didn't help, he's struggled in the past to make weight so it was calculated well by Mayweather.
He needs to fight a 160 pounder. No meaningful fights for him around the weight he is now. Beat the man at 160 and his claim to be a top 10 fighter looks a little stronger.

IMO Canelo was a bit weight drained and so took it easy for the first half of the fight in the fear of running out of gas later on.

Re: FULL FIGHT THREAD - SPIOILERS WITHIN
Canelo didn't give away the first 3 easily. Flloyd won them, but they were pretty dull. maybe canelo thought if he can stop anything happening for a few rounds he might get a share of them on the scorecards and save his energy for later in the fight. Flloyd is too wiley though and made sure he landed the few decent shots early. then from the 4th to the 7th flloyd was very dominant, landing his best punches and disheartening canelo. canelo had a good couple of rounds after that. he landed some good shots but usually only 1 at a time and was being countered constantly, but at least it was more competitive. I think flloyd felt the pace of the fight to be honest though. he didn't want to engage much for the last 2. gotta say canelos footwork was pretty poor.

My take on it (bearing in mind I woke up at 2am, have not been back to bed and just got back from 90 mins football and two pints) is pretty simple: until you get in there with Floyd you quite simply do not realise just how fast he is. You don't realise how awkward he is, quite how hard he hits (or how often), how quick his feet are, none of it. The bloke is a once in a generation fighter. He won't be beaten.

Re: FULL FIGHT THREAD - SPIOILERS WITHIN
Masterclass. Simple as that really! I hold my hands up and admit that I thought Canelo would win this and I thought he may do it late with a stoppage. Heading into the fight I just had a feeling that we were approaching a change in the guard in World Boxing, and I will not look for excuses and try and claim I was suckered in by the hype because I wasn't. I just genuinely thought that Alvarez had enough about him to really make the weight/size count and get at Floyd. Truth be told he couldn't...in fact for most of the night he struggled to get close to him at all unless Floyd stood planted for small periods of time.
It was a highly polished performance by Money May and he showed everyone just how good he really is. I have always rated Floyd, the guy is supreme, yet I have always had the thought that he is a couple of huge fights from challenging for the accolade of greatest of all time. Well this fight ticked off a box.
His defensive work is just a joy to behold and the timing of his punches is just incredible. Canelo barely knew where the jab and straight right were coming from all night.
Yet, this fight also showed the problem that Floyd's genius brings. The man admits he is in it for the money and rightly so...it's he who is putting his health on the line. However his ability is so good that he often chooses to coast during fights instead of giving the fans entertainment and stepping on the gas. This isn't to say he needs to steam in full throttle and put himself at risk...however he certainly could show more willingness to take fighters out.
It's frustrating because you watch him and you think...'you could make a real statement here'...then suddenly he gets on his bike and just pot shots. I was watching it last night and reading this thread with people claiming it was a shut out etc. Obviously we all know scoring is subjective but I couldn't see how it was a shutout.
I had the fight 117-112 to Floyd, certainly controlled the fight but dominated...most definitely did not. Now could he of..yes! Which was why it was yet again a frustrating night to watch him. Too many times I have seen him fight and sat watching him with admiration at how well he has honed his craft....yet ultimately walked away thinking ...'with the skills he has he should be doing more'....this is for me a major factor why he will never be ranked the greatest of all time.
Canelo will hopefully come again but last night there was only 'ONE' and whilst it frustrates me to say (as I don't like the man himself) it was Floyd. He showed glimpses of a boxing clinic...showed everything that puts him on a pedestal above everyone else. There can be no claims of weight draining...or inexperience. Canelo summed it up when he said ''There was no solution for him."...Mayweather has to be ranked at least Top 10 of all time now...just where in that Top 10 is dependent upon whether you see him as a frustrating genius or just a genius.
Where does he go from here....only he knows. For now though only one man has the blueprint to beat Money May.....and that is 'Father Time'.

I don't think floyd hits that hard because he cant knock out opponents.

He doesn't 'bang' we know that but his timing hurts people. They can't walk through him even if they try. They get two or three nasty shots and he's gone.

Alvarez admitted before the fight that in his words he had figured Mayweather out. He said most fighters never had patience but he would be patient with Mayweather. Just a bad gameplan I can post the link if you like.

Just watched the fight for the first time without commentary. Although I agree that Mayweather controlled the fight in general, there were some mighty close rounds throughout. Alvarez could have easily stolen a lot of those close rounds through work rate. Nothing to pick between them in rds 1 and 2. Rds 3-6 were probably edged by Mayweather but were all close.
For me rds 6, 7, and 11 were Mayweathers only clear cut rounds. Alvarez clearly won rd 8. I saw a 116-112 floyd win but can understand big fluctuation - I didn't see the domination that others did.

Azania / YDKSAB any chance you'd drop the alias and like a big boy stop going around the place in pull-up nappies.
