Klitschko vs Povetkin : Is a shock on the cards?
First topic message reminder :
I'm surprised that there isn't more excitement around this, after all it is the biggest and some would say most competitive heavyweight title fight in years.
Ordinarily I would say Wlad walks it; carries Povetkin to the second half then dispatches him for KO number 52.
However, I have an inkling that this could be different.
Povetkin's management have paid a hell of a lot to put this fight on in Moscow. Wlad is the away fighter for once, and no doubt there will be several types of shenanigan going on to try to unsettle the champ beforehand.
There are alleged links between Povetkin's backers and the Russian Mafiya. Are judges Gimla, Feldman and Verbeke beyond their influence? There have been some crazy scorecards handed in recently, so who knows. "But surely it won't go to the cards" I hear you cry.
Well, Wlad is not an inside fighter, we all know this. Will referee Luis Pabon take a dimmer than usual view of any holding by the champion? Warnings perhaps? Docked points? Will they try all they can to rattle Wlad and throw him off his stride?
It is all conjecture of course, but they surely haven't put up $23,000,000 to see their boy get pancaked.
I could be totally wrong, but I feel Wlad will need a knockout to get a draw.

Wlad weighed in at 241 pounds, whilst Povetkin as usual look's a bit fleshy at 225.
Usual moronic pre fight predictions from Atlas and Witherspoon predicting Povetkin to win by KO.
Of course the same Mr Atlas said before they fought Derrick Jefferson was better than Klitschko

What is your proof of Tony featherduster Thompson terrified Wladimir quit with hating the champ. Terrified him so much he got put to sleep twice?!hazharrison wrote:If Tony Thompson terrified Wladimir, don't expect me to believe Fury wouldn't. I can feel Witherspoons pain when he talks about the heavyweights nowadays. He would have dominated this group.

Ignore Scott he's looking at the post as anti-Wlad as opposed to being pro-Tim

Re: Klitschko vs Povetkin : Is a shock on the cards?
It's just so boring to hear these once good fighters constantly blabber on about how rubbish everyone is now and how great it was in their day. Sure there was a deeper pool of heavyweight's but boxing has moved on, guys are bigger stronger and fight in a different way, especially in the HW division with European dominance. Wish they would just let it go, take the credit they deserve for the fights they took part in back in the 80s and give credit to the current best which are the Klitschko's. Was listening to an interview with Earnie Shavers the other day saying nobody would last more than 3 rounds with guys from the 70s, sure plenty would get knocked out if you stand still and don't move but plenty of those guy's have flaws as well, Foreman and Shavers had terrible stamina whilst the latter also had a jaw that would embarrass even Jeremy Williams, Ali had very little punch power, Frazier could do little but throw an excellent left hook. So whilst we maybe lack the great brawls or 50/50 HW title fights of 25+ year's ago these guy's should just suck it up and give credit to guy's who represent the sport well as champion's. They may be not be as exciting but at least they respect the sport enough to avoid coming in 2 stone overweight with a drug addiction.

Or just pointing out the obvious as it's clearly a reference to Tim's battling spirit (despite him being labelled by some as one of HW boxing's wastes of talent)

I wasnt referring to Witherspoon at all. I meant Wlads last opponent was a cancer victim. The super sensitive on here appear to have found that offensive.DAVE667 wrote:Or just pointing out the obvious as it's clearly a reference to Tim's battling spirit (despite him being labelled by some as one of HW boxing's wastes of talent)

Go and wash your mouth out (or at least rinse your finger tips). Joe was a nifty pressure fighter with a prodigious punch output.monty junior wrote:It's just so boring to hear these once good fighters constantly blabber on about how rubbish everyone is now and how great it was in their day. The 70's guys were far fitter than today's mob. Faster, too. They'd scare the bejesus out of Wladimir (who was papping himself late on against Haye whenever he bothered to try throwing a shot).

Povetkin looks like the fat kid in school who has to play in goals and stands on the side during gym class. This is supposed to be the biggest threat in the division? What a joke. He doesnt look like an athlete. In fact he reminds me of Nicky Piper these days. Just give him a pair of glasses.

Yeah, it's more the fact that he's not a very good boxer that is his main issue. I see a classic Wlad performance here. Povetkin gets sickened by jabs and then more and more straight rights. Gets waved off mid to late rounds.Champagne_Socialist wrote:Just because he does not have the body of Bruno or Haye does not mean anything.catchweight wrote:Povetkin looks like the fat kid in school who has to play in goals and stands on the side during gym class. I think Povetkin is going to do one of two things: He will either have the fight of his life and lose a close but Unanimous Decision, or he will choke and be KO'd by the end of the 8th.
Whichever happens, it will be business as usual for Wlad. I don't think he will be beaten durng this reign - he'll just get bored.

My guess is that you are a middle aged mad who is nostalgic about life and so you insult the current HW scene because you are having a mid life crisis and it makes you feel good about your youth.catchweight wrote:I think Il go with the safe option that hes another poor athlete with limited skills and a body that suggests hes not dedicated.Champagne_Socialist wrote:Just because he does not have the body of Bruno or Haye does not mean anything.catchweight wrote:Povetkin looks like the fat kid in school who has to play in goals and stands on the side during gym class. the 80's and 90's are never coming back so just accept the fact your youth has ended and you are middle aged. There is a thread about it on the off topic section you should have a read through it, it may help you get over your mid life crisis.catchweight wrote:Id say you probably have your head stuck so far up Klitschkos ass you wouldnt have a clue what a decent heavyweight looks like.Champagne_Socialist wrote:My guess is that you are a middle aged mad who is nostalgic about life and so you insult the current HW scene because you are having a mid life crisis and it makes you feel good about your youth.catchweight wrote:I think Il go with the safe option that hes another poor athlete with limited skills and a body that suggests hes not dedicated.Champagne_Socialist wrote:Just because he does not have the body of Bruno or Haye does not mean anything.catchweight wrote:Povetkin looks like the fat kid in school who has to play in goals and stands on the side during gym class. I don't think not rating the K bros has anything to do with being middle aged or nostalgic, they just aren't that good.

Haha yeah sure a mid life crisis is these days is pointing out that Povetkin has saggy moobs and is a pile of crap. I think Il just get a new car instead. State of you. I bet you wet yourself when Klitschko comes out to big fireworks and think hes great when he jabs some useless punch bag to death. Maybe you should go watch a few past heavyweights. It might get your head out of Klitschkos ass for a while.Champagne_Socialist wrote:the 80's and 90's are never coming back so just accept the fact your youth has ended and you are middle aged.
