Klitschko vs Povetkin : Is a shock on the cards?
First topic message reminder :
I'm surprised that there isn't more excitement around this, after all it is the biggest and some would say most competitive heavyweight title fight in years.
Ordinarily I would say Wlad walks it; carries Povetkin to the second half then dispatches him for KO number 52.
However, I have an inkling that this could be different.
Povetkin's management have paid a hell of a lot to put this fight on in Moscow. Wlad is the away fighter for once, and no doubt there will be several types of shenanigan going on to try to unsettle the champ beforehand.
There are alleged links between Povetkin's backers and the Russian Mafiya. Are judges Gimla, Feldman and Verbeke beyond their influence? There have been some crazy scorecards handed in recently, so who knows. "But surely it won't go to the cards" I hear you cry.
Well, Wlad is not an inside fighter, we all know this. Will referee Luis Pabon take a dimmer than usual view of any holding by the champion? Warnings perhaps? Docked points? Will they try all they can to rattle Wlad and throw him off his stride?
It is all conjecture of course, but they surely haven't put up $23,000,000 to see their boy get pancaked.
I could be totally wrong, but I feel Wlad will need a knockout to get a draw.

Age doesn't seem to affect Wlad's physical condition. I am more than suspicious.
I remember when the Eastern Europeans first came over to work here when European succession came about. When they hit the gym we thought they were genetically superior. After a while we found out they were juiced to the eyeballs. There is a rich history of steroid use in that part of the world trumped only by the American's.

Could say the same about Mayweather and Marquez who come into the ring with perfect bodies.Strongback wrote:Age doesn't seem to affect Wlad's physical condition. I am more than suspicious.Scottrf wrote:

The change Marquez made in his physique as a 40 year old is freakish particularly given he was never really a muscular guy.Champagne_Socialist wrote:Could say the same about Mayweather and Marquez who come into the ring with perfect bodies.Strongback wrote:Age doesn't seem to affect Wlad's physical condition. Mayweather is more maintaining. He was in fantastic condition against Hatton. He is very vascular though which is sometimes an indicator of things. Floyd is only 5'7 so it isn't hard to notice a small amount of muscle packed on his small frame. Floyd's head does look to have gotten physically bigger over the years but that might just be an age thing.
Wlad carrying 17 plus stone of rock hard muscle with 5% bodyfat at 6'6 is a different proposition altogether.

They are pro athletes. It shouldnt be that hard to keep a good physique. The smaller guys cant afford the muslces as much because they have to make weight.

Had a dream about this fight last night. Povetkin catches Wlad with an elbow in the first, causing a terrible cut above the eye. The (Mafiya sponsored?) ref declares that it was caused by a punch. Fight should be stopped but the (Mafiya sponsored?) doctor allows it to continue. After four rounds the cut is better but the doctor steps in and it is all over.

Probably. And then 5 fighters will crawl out of the woodwork saying he retired because he was afraid to fight them. Wilder will be one of themMr Bounce wrote:I think Povetkin is going to do one of two things: He will either have the fight of his life and lose a close but Unanimous Decision, or he will choke and be KO'd by the end of the 8th.
Whichever happens, it will be business as usual for Wlad. I don't think he will be beaten durng this reign - he'll just get bored.

This thread has descended a fair way from the not-so-lofty heights I had left it on

Not as bored as we are of watching him. Does a single nanosecond of 'action' of any moment of his entire title reign stick in anyone's mind ? A get-the-job-done, minimum-risk, minimum-fuss ( and minimum-entertainment value) robot who has me hitting the Samaritans speed-dial button before the end of the 2nd round. Does this guy get conditioned or merely programmed ?Mr Bounce wrote:I think Povetkin is going to do one of two things: He will either have the fight of his life and lose a close but Unanimous Decision, or he will choke and be KO'd by the end of the 8th.
