The best song ever with 3 or more words in the title.
The Culture Cup round 6
I said it would be Monday morning and, like my milkman, I always deliver. So here is round 6 of quite possibly the most exciting tournament ever. Before we move on to round 6 and the poll for 'The best song ever with 3 or more words in the title' lets have a look at what you could have won in round 5.
Round 5 saw the poll for 'Best piece of literature with a name in the title' and threw up some classic works of literature and no small measure of controversy with the 'missing' and 'reappearing' votes scandal throwing the integrity of the whole competition into doubt. With the mystery still unsolved and the 'missing' votes no closer to being found, I have made the decision to move on, forget the past and continue the competition. At least I am a man of extremely high integrity and moral fibre so we can proceed safe in the knowledge that the Culture Cup is still on the level. I have my finest man (Wingrove) on the case to try and find out what happened but until then, lets move forward in peace.
Round 5 was an interesting one with the votes being split across the board resulting in many posters claiming a decent points haul. Using my complicated results algorithm, you would have only needed to get 1 vote in this round to get 7 points. Sot its bad luck to Union who received no votes, no points and has subsequently seen his already slim chance of winning almost certainly disappear for good. What makes it worse it that he had some votes before 'votegate'. Life can be so cruel. Hero continues to be Mr Consistent and remains on top of the Christmas tree, just as a fairy should be. Julius had a stunning reversal in fortune with his pick of Macbeth claiming top spot for this round. A fair few posters picked up 10 points and at the half way point, the league is still within grasp for a fair few posters. Here are the runners and riders;
Hero (A Streetcar Named Desire): (10) 46
compelling & rich (Schindler's List): (9): 42
seanmichaels (Oliver Twist): (9) 38

Round 7 is back to films and the question is this:Name the greatest film actor or actress born in the same year as you Best film originally released in the decade of your birth. You can, of course, lie if you want to but I doubt any of you are that precious. I will leave it up to your conscience but please PM a couple of choices.
Here is the poll for round 6 and remember, it is open for the whole forum to vote!
PLEASE ONLY VOTE FOR 2 NOMINATIONS I don't think it will survive another voting scandal.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
Some good choices this round and after a bit of deliberation, I have gone for Sympathy for the Devil and Tracks of my Tears.
Sympathy for the Devil is my favourite Stones song and that opening when the quiet drum beats kicks in gets my feet tapping every time. I went to see them at the old Wembley in 1996. At one point, all the stadium lights were turned off and the place was plunged into darkness. Then the opening drums to Sympathy started up whilst everything was still pitch black. When it got to the words and the opening line “please allow me to introduce myself”, one light started to shine down just on Jagger. He was standing there head bowed wearing a black cloak and hood with his arms outstretched like he was being crucified. When the tune really kicked in, all the lights burst on and Jagger and Richards did their thing. It was great theatre and it’s a great song.
Tracks of my Tears is just such a brilliant song. The lyrics are moving and heartfelt and Robinson’s voice is so soulful. Love that tune.
Honourable mentions to Stone Roses and Joy Division. They were next in line.

Went with the Roses, as I feel a sense of obligation to vote for them whenever they are nominated in these things. Also went with There Is a Light that Never Goes Out. Massive Smiths fan and this is probably their finest hour, brilliant lyrics and song that stands up to repeated listening.
Some good nominations on here, tough to pick.

Went for Bridge Over Troubled Water, as it sticks in my head for days every time I hear it, in fact it is there now.
Also went for Field of Dreams as I'm not taking the risk of getting shafted by any voting shenanigans again. And I like it. Obviously.

Is there any chance you can tell me who superfly nominates every round Tina? I dearly want to beat him but I know he has good taste so I run the risk of voting for him by mistake as it stands.

This is going to be a very competative round. Like a Rolling Stone and sympathy for the devil for me; both superb and iconic

Would sooner quit 606 than vote for the Smiths (or anything/one connected to that Tinkywinky Morrissey).

Same here, good job I am not playing. It gave me John Cena who, after a wee bit of googling, turns out is both a WRASSLER and an actor. He is also known as the Doctor of Thuganomics which is one of the funniest things I have ever read.Adam D wrote:There are absolutely no good actors in the year I was born!

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
Hang on, how many are we voting for here? I've just noticed that I can vote for at least four. (I voted for four.) I was going to change my vote before sending but just clicked on a third one to change it and and it let me keep all three. So I added a fourth, just to check.
Might go some way to explaining the missing votes from last time, if one person could vote for loads and then take them away again? So it might not have been multiple aliases I mean.

I thought so, Tino. I'll cancel and vote for two again to be fair.
Thought you might want to know though, as I thought most polls I'd voted in before your tournament were restricted.
edit: voted for Simon & Garfunkel and Bob Dylan (Like a...), and not voted for Stones Roses or Joy Division.
I honestly misread it at first too and thought Union had nominated Sting's Fields of Gold.

I did chuckle going through their discography a while back. They did one album where all the songs were about picnics and maypoles and stuff. Never listened to them though.

Stiffler and Sarah Chalke would get some votes.
