HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Exeter Chiefs vs Cardiff Blues
First topic message reminder :
I'm no George Carlin when it comes to setting up a new thread, but I thought I'd get one going for the other pool 2 match. It seems to me that both teams have had an indifferent start to the season, yet both seemed to hit their straps in their final game pre round 1, Cardiff Blues with a comfortable home win over Embra, and Exe putting Glaws to the sword at Kingsholm. Now admittedly Edinburgh have been pretty poor oppo this season, but equally Glaws were not on song yesterday, so perhaps we shouldn't read too much into either of these most recent encounters. Cardiff have now welcomed back their B&I Lions group, with strong displays from Jenkins, Warburton, Cuthbert and Halfpenny yesterday. For the Chiefs, DR Rob Baxter was delighted that at last his players delivered a full 80 minute performance, which has sadly been lacking season-to-date. All-in-all, this should lead to a pretty exciting encounter, both teams are an interesting blend of seasoned pros and promising youth (looking forward to the battle in the centres between Corey Allen and Sam Hill, two very exciting prospects) - can't wait to get back down to Sandy Park and soak up the atmosphere for this one

Exeter down to 13!
If we can get them down to 10 we might have a chance!

Not really a big supporter of the Blues, but the daft decisions made by the coaching staff with selection and tactics is so frustrating, even for me. How can these 'professionals' be so incompetent.

not a yellow for me, it slid up and should of been a penalty only. Ref being kind to the blues here.

2 man advantage in the back but mauling the ball, good stuff.

Blues have to score with pretty much every possession in this 10 minutes - and they are not doing that.

Embra was 24 points down at some point when racing got a yellowwales606 wrote:That was more of a continuing chance of lead, not a comeback from 40 points down!whocares wrote:Would be nice if this was going to be another embra-racing type of come back

Very impressed with Copeland. Can't see him staying with the blues if he isn't starting. I can see Connacht coming in for him.

2 man overlap. Better than that the 2 men outside you are Cuthbert an Halfpenny, so what do you do.... Yep. Kick it to touch... Clueless....

Sam Hobbs is the worst prop at any of the regions. Can an English club come and take him like LW did with Trevet?

doubtful, it is a fair bit easier to score tries against 13 men (12 at one point).No9 wrote:Said this in jest earlier.... But who knows ;-)No9 wrote:Looks like it was all a bluff by the Blues... They where only giving the Chiefs a head start....

I can't get over the Blues managed to get 4 try's, that gives them a BP out of a routing... Get a Losing BP as well would be unbelievable.

Well done to the Cheifs, put us to the sword when they had to. We have been VERY lucky to get a point from that. Next weekend will be scary.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Exeter Chiefs vs Cardiff Blues
The Blues were forced to stop kicking all the ball away and then they actually managed to score tries
Do you think the coaches will realise that they should try to keep the ball so Cuthbert gets a go with it?

Well done Exeter, but you really need to keep it going when you have a team on the ropes like that.
As for the Blues, how the hell you got a BP is still unbelievable, as it's kept you in the pool. But not for long unless something drastically changes.

If the chiefs had not gone down to 13 men. Cardiff would have been well hammerd. in my opinion.
I said it yesterday after the Quins / Scarlets game. It is the first game of a long season and maybe, maybe the players are a little bit rusty. But that was a terrible first half by cardiff blues.
