Some good pre-match reading from Edinburgh's defence coach - I really like this guy actually. He's saying the right things and I think he's going to be a really good coach for this Edinburgh team

Good build up to that try, and a good finish by Visser.

Leonardi, Du Preez those are some aggressive, abrasive back rowers. Good signings.

Terrible chase on that box kick, although in fairness well worked try by USAP

Yeah, some of these Edinburgh forwards have been very physical, Ford, back row too, Nel was below part though.GLove39 wrote:Good try by Du Preez, very physical.
Big impact from Blaauw who must start from now on.

It's a shame their 14 with feet for hands went off injured - their sub winget changed the game.

Lost it in the first ten minutes of the second half when we switched off. Poor and the defence coach will have a word.

Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
did not see it, so only a general comment. However we all do this when our team ship a lot of points in a short period. We castigate our team for "switchin off" or "not waking up". Sometimes we really should give credit to the opposition for playing well.justified sinner wrote:Lost it in the first ten minutes of the second half when we switched off. Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
VGR - I only saw the highlights but one Perpignan try, a breakout from their own 22, saw at least two Embra players miss tackles that should have been made. Just waving your arm in front of a player ain't gonna stop him.
Embra posters are right. Their defence coach needs to tear the players off a strip.

Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
Disappointing outcome given the first half. To me there were 2 key turning points:
- Visser's poor kick chase that led up to their first try. He neither jumped for it or waited for the guy to land - he ran past him and gave a feeble attempt at tackling him, which failed. The guy then sped up the pitch leading to their try that started off the scoring.
- the kick out of the full from just outside our 22. We were still in the game at that point and instead of being in their 22 we were defending out own line. Again they scored and killed off the game. It was fairly unluckly though - the kick good equally have gone out in their 5m line.
Positives were Du Preez and the two Argies who I though played well, especially Leonardi in the back row who was very abrasive.
De Luca also had a strong game.

Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
James Hook showed once again why he doesn't get picked for Wales. The across-the-field chip for his winger inside the Perp 22 that led to a length-of the-field breakout and Perp's 3rd try - that would never be allowed under Gatland.

Disappointed with our defence throughout the match, not just the tackling but our positioning and aggression.
With reference to Hook, he has played well three games on the bounce which according to my mate is the first time its happened since he joined, further to the cross field kuck well Biggar and Priestland both do that on a regular basis.

Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
Come on man, Biggar loves the cross field especially when Bowe and Walker was on the field I cannot recall a particular moment but I am sure if I done a bit of research you would find a couple of moments..... ditto Priestland and North when he run and passed back in one movement to was it Scott Williams a few seasons back..... maybe not on a regular basis but probably more often than Hooky.

Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
Biggar won the match for us against France in the 6N with his superb chip to North, but that was in the French 22. I'm a fan of DB, but he's not a risk-taker. And if he did try it in his own 22, I think Gatland would have a word with him after...

So RDW is it fair to say that we're still losing it on the small percentage plays because we're just not clinical enough?RDW_Scotland wrote:Disappointing outcome given the first half. To me there were 2 key turning points:

I'd say we are loosing it because our defense is still on its summer holidays (it started its holiday in the summer of 2010)

Is there a online replay of the game anywhere I can watch?

Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
I’d say so GC. Add to that the fact that our defence still has issues (as tattie says) – when they broke out from their 22 on several occasions half our players looked like they didn’t actually want to tackle the guy. One of the tries there was at least 3 or 4 Lee Jones-esque embarrassing attempts at a tackle.

I'd say it's not worth it though - the first half was pretty dull and we were blown away in the 2nd half. The highlights should be enough!

Unacceptable at that level. If I missed a tackle like that at my club I would have been levied with fines and embarrassed to such an extent I would never ever be able to turn up and play ever again. Re: HK Round 2 - Perpignan vs Edinburgh
I think it's just an issue we're going to have to accept with Visser. He is our most potent attacking weapon (his ability to score tries despite us being dire is remarkable) and we'll just have to accept that every now and then he'll defend like a wet blanket.
I've been away so missed the Perp game. Sounds like a decent first half effort was thrown away with some weak defending in the second half. Still, no embarrasment losing to Perpignan at home, even if it was a weaker side. We now have to beat Glaws in the next game at Murrayfield. Lose that and we're finished.
Hopefully we can now build a couple of wins on the trot with games against Treviso and Zebre at Murrayfield.....hopefully.....
